As District Governor my year ends June 30 and this is true for many of the club presi- dents. But 2 months is me to accomplish a lot. I hope all presidents want to end their year as a successful president having had a successful year for the club. What is a good year? A happy membership that is growing, a year of successful service to the community, a year of successful financial results, a year that developed future club leaders. At the District Convenon I admied to being like a proud parent when it comes to the clubs in our District. As I visit clubs, I brag about what other clubs have accomplished. I do this so we all understand great success can be accomplished in the most unexpected ways. So I have another club to brag about, the Brown County Pecan Bayou club. They are a new club that chartered January 2016. Their membership got as high as 23 before they started losing members all the way down to 10. In January 2017 they were sll at 10. They may have been frustrated but they never gave up and they turned it around in 3 months. They have 23 members again at Spring 30 and are commied to geng 24 by June 30. They want to achieve the goal of every club plus 1 by year end. More than just membership happened to the club. I was at their March meeng and they made a decision to try a fund raiser by charging $20.00 for them to come to your house and hide 20 Easter Eggs on Sat- urday night before Easter. I sat there and didn’t say anything (which is my responsibility) but I thought this will never make any money. Was I ever wrong!! They hid 1,250 eggs and made over $600 and on Monday went out and bought all the plasc eggs they could find for next year. This year I have had the opportunity to see these successes in many places across our Dis- trict. This is why I am so opmisc about the future of our Lions organizaon. This is why I believe no club will fail if they believe in our moo “we serve”

I’ve mentioned before that I liked to run 5K races when I was in my 40’s & 50”s. Running is

like many non-team sports, you play against your own ability. You are seldom the best nor

the worst. In running, one of the decisions you make every run is when to start your sprint

to the end. It’s important not because you might pass another runner but because it

makes a difference in making a good run time based on your ability. Start too early and

you fail at the end, start too late and you don’t leave it all on the track.

Why am I writing about this, because we are coming to the last 2 months of our Lions

year. As District Governor my year ends June 30 and this is true for many of the club presi-

dents. But 2 months is time to accomplish a lot. I hope all presidents want to end their

year as a successful president having had a successful year for the club. What is a good

year? A happy membership that is growing, a year of successful service to the community,

a year of successful financial results, a year that developed future club leaders.

At the District Convention I admitted to being like a proud parent when it comes to the

clubs in our District. As I visit clubs, I brag about what other clubs have accomplished. I do

this so we all understand great success can be accomplished in the most unexpected ways.

So I have another club to brag about, the Brown County Pecan Bayou club. They are a new

club that chartered January 2016. Their membership got as high as 23 before they started

losing members all the way down to 10. In January 2017 they were still at 10. They may

have been frustrated but they never gave up and they turned it around in 3 months. They

have 23 members again at Spring 30 and are committed to getting 24 by June 30. They

want to achieve the goal of every club plus 1 by year end. More than just membership

happened to the club. I was at their March meeting and they made a decision to try a fund

raiser by charging $20.00 for them to come to your house and hide 20 Easter Eggs on Sat-

urday night before Easter. I sat there and didn’t say anything (which is my responsibility)

but I thought this will never make any money. Was I ever wrong!! They hid 1,250 eggs and

made over $600 and on Monday went out and bought all the plastic eggs they could find

for next year.

This year I have had the opportunity to see these successes in many places across our Dis-

trict. This is why I am so optimistic about the future of our Lions organization. This is why I

believe no club will fail if they believe in our motto “we serve”

TIME OF CHANGE

Spring is a time of new beginnings, a time of

renewed life and a time of change. New begin-

nings start when you choose to become the 2nd

VDG and begin to gain some knowledge of the

responsibility of the office. Change again when

it is time to fill the shoes of the 1st VDG gaining

more knowledge of what it takes to become a

District Governor. Pope John XXIII said it best, “See everything, Over-

look a great deal, Improve a little.” Each new phase to becoming District

Governor brings with it a certain amount of doubt. “The beginning of

wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to the question and

by seeking we may come upon the truth.” Pierre Abelard. I see what my

current Governor is accomplishing and makes me wonder how time is

found to do the right things that need to be done. Will I be able to say

the right things and do what needs to be done? Lewis Cass said,

”People may doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you

do.”

But I guess it is not about stepping in the same foot prints the current

Governor is creating. It is about doing the job in your own way. “It is

better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong than to be

always right by having no ideas.” Edward de Bono. There is more

change expected on becoming the DGE. The ultimate change to be em-

braced when I am called Governor of District 2-A1; needless to say the

A1 District in the state of Texas. AMEN!
