The Schodack Central School District provides Continuing Education programs to encourage lifelong active, reflective, and creative learners in our community. We are pleased to offer the following courses for the winter of 2017…

DRIVER EDUCATION

Five Hour Pre-Licensing with the Mackay Driving School Dates: TBD Time: 6:00pm to 8:30pm Location: HS Room 257 Fee: $50 This course is required by New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for any individual seeking to take a New York State Road Test. The course covers the state required curriculum. Students must possess a NYS Learner’s Permit in order to take this course. Registered individuals will receive a MV-278 certificate at the end to sign up for your road test (valid for one year). Please contact the Continuing Education Coordinator for the correct registration form.

HEALTH & FITNESS

Co-Ed Volleyball Coordinator: Anthony Moak Dates: on going Time: 6:45pm to 8:45pm Location: HS Gym Fee: Walk In $5 Join other intermediate players for an evening of fun and competitive volleyball play. This program offers no instruction, coaching or officiating; warm-ups and games will be self-monitored. Players should play at an intermediate to advanced-intermediate level to participate and must wear kneepads. Debi’s Aerobic Dance & Energy Activating Class Instructor: Debi Filkins Dates: April 24th (Tuesdays & Thursdays) Time: 7:00pm to 8:15pm Location: MS Gym Fee: $75

Enjoy dance and energy activating techniques for your heart, health and happiness. On Tuesdays, this class overlaps with Debi’s Stretch class. Register directly with instructor Debi Filkins at 708-9238. Hall Walkers Continues: April 24th Dates: ongoing; every school night through the school year Time: 6:00pm to 9:00pm Location: MS Hallways Fee: free, must pre-register

Walk in a safe, warm place - the Maple Hill Middle School! You can walk when you wish and at a pace that is comfortable for you. Walkers will be issued a special visitor’s badge to wear while in the building.

Insanity Workout Instructor: Kathleen Johnson Dates: April 26th and runs for six (6) Wednesdays Time: 7:00pm to 8:00pm Location: CES Auditorium Fee: $45 HS & College Students: $30 Walk-In: $10

INSANITY® is a cardio class, based on high intensity interval training. This class will make the most of your time with athletic/plyometric drills, mixed with intervals of strength, power and resistance and core training. All levels welcome. Modifications will be provided, including low impact versions. Kathleen Johnson is a district resident and mother of two boys. As a Beachbody coach and her love of fitness, she provides motivation to people looking to achieve their fitness goals. A yoga mat is recommended for exercises done on the floor.

Pilates Instructor: Patricia McCarthy Dates: April 25th and runs for eight (8) Tuesdays Time: 6:15pm 7:15pm Location: MS Library Fee: $60 Pilates is a system of abdominal core strengthening. Pilates has both a yoga aspect and core conditioning to target your fitness experience as well as shape and tone. The instructor, Patricia McCarthy, is a Licensed Massage Therapist who has taught yoga, Pilates and other active adult fitness movement courses. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat to class. YMCA Spin Bike – Monday Nights Instructor: Kim Doran, certified YMCA instructor Dates: April 24th and runs for eight (8) Mondays Time: 6:30pm to 7:30pm Location: MS Spin Bike Room

Fee: $60 Spinning is an indoor group exercise cycling class. You will spin to motivating music as the instructor takes you on the ride of your life. It will challenge and strengthen your cardiovascular system to the fullest extent. Be prepared to work up a sweat in this class!!

YMCA Spin Bike – Wednesday Nights Instructor: Kim Doran, certified YMCA instructor Dates: April 26th and runs for eight (8) Wednesdays Time: 6:30pm to 7:30pm Location: MS Spin Bike Room Fee: $60 Spinning is an indoor group exercise cycling class. Yoga for Beginner Level is for individuals who are looking for an introduction to yoga or people with experience who prefer a slower, gentler class. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat.

Yoga for Intermediate Level Instructor: Michele Baynes, YMCA Certified Instructor Dates: April 27th and runs for eight (8) Thursdays Time: 7:00pm to 8:15pm Location: CES Auditorium Fee: $60

Yoga for Intermediate Level combines a range of postures from gentle to challenging. This class is designed to help you create a practice of stretches that strengthen the body and rejuvenate the soul. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION REGISTRATION Registration must be made in advance for all courses, even those that are free. Registrations will only be accepted with full payment of all course fees.

Registration is open to all residents of the Schodack Central School District. Nonresidents may enroll in courses only if space is available. All materials fees are the responsibility of the participant.

Register By Mail Complete the registration form a check made out to Schodack Central School District and mail both to:

Register In Person Complete the registration form and bring it to the District Office at 1477 South Schodack Road weekdays between 8am and 4pm. Registrations will also be accepted in person at the first class of each course. In person payments may either be in check or exact-amount cash.

REFUNDS Registration in a class represents a commitment and instructors are hired based on the number of people registered. Therefore, refunds will only be issued if the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment; the class is filled to maximum capacity or injury. Each class must meet a minimum enrollment. If a course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, or over-enrolled, you will be notified by phone and/or mail and receive a full refund. The refund will be mailed to you in check form and may take several weeks to process.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS Continuing Education classes do not meet when school is closed for students.

WEATHER / EMERGENCIES

Classes may be cancelled due to weather or other emergencies. If the District closes the school, Continuing Education classes are also cancelled. Every effort will be made by the class instructors and the Director of Continuing Education to contact all registered participants. Please listen to the following news sources for updates:
