FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES TRAINING Emergency Medical Technician - BasicThe Emergency Medical Technician-Basic is a qualified pre-hospital program consisting of didactic course work. The following competencies include but are not limited to the recognition, assessment, and management of medical emergencies. The EMT-Basic performs skills such as CPR, artificial ventilations, oxygen administration, basic airway management, AED defibrillation, spinal immobilization, vital signs, and hemorrhage control. Successful completion of the course will allow the student the opportunity to sit for the North Carolina Office of EMS certification examination. 203 hours. $181.25 plus additional costs. Emergency Medical Technician - IntermediateThe EMT-Intermediate is a qualified pre-hospital advanced emergency care provider. This course is a competency-based training program consisting of didactic, clinical, and field internship experience. The following competencies include but are not limited to the recognition, assessment, and management of medical emergencies. The EMT-Intermediate primarily provides pre-hospital emergency care to acutely ill or injured patients. This course allows the student to build upon the basic skills learned as an EMT-Basic. Successful completion of the course will allow the student the opportunity to sit for the North Carolina Office of EMS certification examination. Prerequisite: Successful completion of an approved NCOEMS EMT-Basic Course. This course consists of 211 classroom hours; 48 clinical hours; 48 field internship hours. Nursing Assistant IIThe Nursing Assistant II course prepares graduates to perform advanced nursing procedures. It includes 80 hours classroom/lab and 80 hours clinical learning experiences. Students desiring to enroll in this class must meet admission requirements, be CPR certified through an American Heart Association approved CPR course, and have a current listing as an NA I with the Division of Health Sciences Regulations in Raleigh. Upon successful completion, the NA II graduate will be listed with the NC Board of Nursing with employment opportunities at the hospital, doctor's office, and home health levels. At the end of the course, the successful graduate will submit a Board of Nursing Test Fee of $24. Prerequisite: Nursing Assistant I. 160 hours. $215; book is approximately $90.

Pharmacy Technician IIThis course provides you with the basic knowledge and skills required to work as a technician in a pharmacy. This course includes compounding, calculations, drug classifications, and review for certification. Prerequisite: Pharmacy Technician I. New in Summer 2015The Healthcare Division will be offering a combined Pharmacy Tech I and II course in the summer. Students will be able to complete both portions of the course in one semester. At the end of the course the student will be prepared to sit for the PTCB certification exam. Pharmacy technicians who are certified are being employed in traditional as well as innovative practice models across the nation. Employing CPhTs allow pharmacies to expand services and enhance patient care, and gives pharmacists more time to spend with patients, providing drug information, answering questions, and promoting compliance with medication regimens. Certification provides the public and pharmacists with greater confidence in their pharmacies. Class held on Mondays & Wednesdays. $205; book is approximately $80.

Nursing Assistant I RefresherThis course offers a Refresher on Nursing Assistant I materials and skills. You are eligible if your NA I has expired (by no more than 5 years of expiration) or if you are certified in another state and desire certification in NC. A photo ID is needed and verification of Social Security Card. Both photo ID and SS card must match for NACES Testing. Prerequisite: Must be previously listed as an NA I. 40 hours. $135; book is approximately $35 and NACES Testing is $101.

Phlebotomy (National Certification)Phlebotomy training prepares you to draw blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analyzing blood. A phlebotomist's job includes maintenance of equipment used in obtaining blood specimens; the use of appropriate communication skills when working with patients; the selection of venipuncture sites; the care of blood specimens; and the entry of the testing process into the computer, as well as clerical duties associated with record keeping of the blood tests. This course consists of theory and clinical experience in performing blood collections. You must be a high school graduate or have your high school equivalency, CPR certified or scheduled to take Healthcare Provider CPR, and meet immunization requirements. One full week of clinical 8a-5p is required for each students. Clinical times and locations will be designated by instructor. Instructor: Paige Morning. 232 hours. $215; book is approximately $75.

Medication AideThis course is designed to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified to be a Medication Aide. This course will cover the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Topics will include medication administration via the oral, topical and instillation routes, medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology, and legal implications. OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING

Note 1: Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy testing is offered strictly on a walk-in basis on Fridays from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM (the last test must begin no later than 1:00 PM). All students are required to show a photo ID in order to test. The placement Testing Center is located on PCC's campus in the Warren Building, Room 2402. Before scheduling test, please see Healthcare Programs at the Greenville Center (3107 S. Memorial Drive) to receive required testing documentation.

Note 2: Nursing Assistant II requires a Criminal Background Check specifically from www.certifiedbackground.com. The cost for N.C. Residents is $34.00 and non-residents is $59.00. N.C. Residents should use code pi06 and out of state students should use code pi06os when registering with Certified Background. If you fail to complete the criminal background or have certain crimes or pending cases, you may be denied admission to required clinical sites and you will not receive a refund. If you have any questions regarding the criminal background requirement, please call (252) 493-722. The date to complete the Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening will be announced to you in class by the instructor.

SAFETYMotorcycle Safety Foundation: Basic Rider's CourseThis 22-hour course is part of the NC Motorcycle Safety Program. In this class, you will learn the basics of operating a motorcycle. 100% attendance of all scheduled class hours is mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS! You must wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, boots over the ankle, full fingered gloves, and eye protection (sunglasses or prescription eyewear is permissible). Helmets are available, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have them. Motorcycles are furnished by PCC. Riders must be 16 years of age, but are not required to hold a driver's license to participate in the class. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to forego the driving portion of the NC DMV test for gaining your motorcycle endorsement. Personal Protection in the HomeThis course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual's right to self-defense. You should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition and learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.
