WELCOME: Bouncing into SpringAs we welcome the first signs of Spring, we look forward tomore exciting news about what artsNK has to offer: StAndrew’s church in Leasingham anticipates an innovativeproject for the village, Sleaford Leisure Centre inspires an artsheritage in a new mosaic group, plans for village consultationare made concrete and the performing arts give us somethingto celebrate at The Terry O’Toole Theatre and in Lincoln!Summaries of these activites can be found in the followingarticles and full length features on our website.Further details about the work of artsNK can be found at:www.artsnk.org

INSIDE OUT: My Story from Jim StarbuckFollowing the successful installation at St Andrew’s Church inHeckington, the Altered project has turned its attention to StAndrew’s in Leasingham for its penultimate intervention (Altered isa unique project that aims to bring contemporary art and ancientchurch buildings together across rural Lincolnshire and is a partner-ship between the Diocese of Lincoln, the University of Lincoln andartsNK).I asked Jim Starbuck, churchwarden at St Andrew’s, to talk abouthis involvement with this project. “I have been a member of Saint Andrews for the last 26 years afterhaving moved from Nottingham with my family. For the last 12years I have been one of the Church Wardens and Chairman of thePCC. It is a very important part of my life. Last year we went overto Heckington to see the Altered project at the Church. To say Iwas blown away with it is an understatement!”

I asked Jim what he felt that this project might bring to his church and its community:“We at St Andrews are trying to bring more people from the village into the Church, not just for religiouspurposes, but also for what the building represents as part of the history of Leasingham. We are at thismoment having a toilet and kitchen built into the tower, which is costing St Andrew’s around £25k, a biginvestment, but as a result of which we can start using the Church as a building at the centre of the vil-lage to hold concerts, exhibitions and hopefully one the village will be proud of. I see Altered as the startof all this. It is a very exciting art project with a very talented artist, and the works which will be pro-duced will, I am certain, stimulate and excite all who will come to see it displayed in this beautiful build-ing.”I asked Jim, finally, whether he had anything to add, and he replied:“This is the first time I have been involved in anything like this and I have been very impressed by thededication of the team who looked at and judged each of the submitted proposals.”Read the full interview at:www.artsnk.org/taking-part/inside-out-my-story-from-jim-starbuck
