Board Member Spotlight

The 20th Anniversary of Flight For Life Colorado in Summit County was celebrated at a reception in the hospital Café on March 26. Flight pilots, nurses, directors and crew were honored along with patients who received a helicopter transport during the past 20 years or more. A spirit of grateful appreciation for our Summit County life-line

to lifesaving healthcare pervaded the audience of Foundation donors, hospital staff and community leaders. In early March a call went out to Summit County and surrounding areas for patients to tell us about their experiences with Flight For Life. We were amazed at the touching stories we heard and we were honored to recognize these patients at the reception.

On April 1, participating Shell and Phillips 66 Gas Stations in Colorado kicked off a month-long campaign to support Flight For Life Colorado. Associates will be collecting donations at 44 stores throughout the state to benefit Flight For Life Colorado.

This campaign will only run from April 1-30, so be sure to visit a participating Shell or Phillips 66 to purchase your gas and convenience store items and help support Flight For Life Colorado. The two participating stations in the mountains are located in Silverthorne just north of the I-70 Silverthorne exit at 190 Highway 6 and in Avon at 46 Nottingham Road.

Also remember – if you have a City Market or King Soopers card, your gasoline purchases may qualify for a 10-cents-per-gallon discount at Shell stations.

Donor Spotlight - Arapahoe BasinArapahoe Basin is appropriately called The Legend and abbreviated by locals as A-Basin. In the mid-1940’s a hardy group of pioneers sold stock, cut down trees, put up “lifts” and The Legend was born. The inaugural season in 1946 opened with a single rope tow and $1.25 daily lift tickets. Now at 63 years strong, A-Basin is just hitting its stride. In fact it was voted #1 in Top 5 Mom & Pop Ski Resorts by SkiResorts.com - February 2010.

A long-time donor to the Summit Medical Center Health Foundation, the Basin is a great supporter of Flight For Life Colorado. During the capital campaign for the helicopter hanger, Arapahoe Basin pledged a generous amount in 2005 and 2006. In past years fundraising proceeds from the Annual Enduro race have also been donated to Flight For Life. Arapahoe Basin lift tickets and season passes are always favorite Silent Auction items for the SANE Walk/Run and Dancing with the Mountain Stars events. The Foundation is grateful for the on-going support of one of Summit County’s outstanding resorts.

Circle of Caring Brunch Honors Foundation DonorsOn January 29, more than 80 donors who gave $500 or more to the Summit Medical Center Health Foundation and/or to the Bristlecone Foundation in 2011 were honored at the 4th Annual Circle of Caring brunch. The Imperial Ballroom at Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge was an elegant setting for the event with a view of the ski area and surrounding peaks.

Bristlecone Board Member Dori Jensen started the program with a reflection. Kathie Repola, President and Chief Development Officer of the Centura Health at Home Foundation and Åsa Armstrong, Bristlecone Foundation Development Officer presented an overview of Bristlecone’s Home Health and Hospice services and the achievements of the Bristlecone Foundation. Paul Chodkowski, CEO at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, highlighted the latest improvements to the hospital including the new Echocardiology workstations supported by proceeds from the 2011 Dancing with the Mountain Stars. Deb Edwards followed with a summary of hospital Foundation successes over the past year. Bristlecone Foundation Board Member Barbara Wolitzky and Summit Medical Center Health Foundation Board President Jeff Campeau ended the program with moving testimonials about what their service to the Foundations means to them personally.

At the end of the luncheon each donor received a small token of appreciation for their support. The Foundation hopes donors will enjoy using their gear tote bags for travel or trips to the gym.
