Upcoming Event Jonathan Sprinkles on campusMark your calendars for Wednesday, February 8th! The Office of Student Life will be

hosting award-winning motivational speaker Jonathan Sprinkles at 12:30 pm in N103. Jonathan was voted Speaker of the Year (APCA), Mentor of the Year (Disney/Eastman Kodak) and Marketer

of the Year (JMI, Inc).

Here’s why: he’s funny;

his energy keeps

Attempting to mask the pain, he gave into peer pressure and the low expectations that surround many African-American men. However, Jonathan’s spirit refused to settle for life’s second best. He graduated college from the fourth-ranked marketing program in the country.

Student Activities Board an interview with members

The Student Activities Board is a student run organization dedicated to enhancing campus l i fe for the LSC–Tomball student body through so-cial, recreational, educational and cul-tural programs. SAB reaches out to the student body to make their college experience more enjoyable. When interviewed, Karan Kaur and Jake Foster told us how they feel about SAB.

What is SAB to you?Karan: SAB to me is an amazing organization that brings students together to learn how to work hard and create fun, new experiences. Here, new friends and memorable mo-ments are made. SAB is something special. It teaches you about friend-ship, working together and having fun.Jake: SAB to me is a collaboration of students working together to promote and participate in events around campus.How has it affected your life through your involvement this past semester?Karan: When I first came to the Lone Star campus, I didn’t really know what to expect. I didn’t know that

many people on campus, and I was very shy and quiet. SAB taught me how to be more open and speak up. I met some amazing people and made some great friends. SAB really helped me with boosting my confidence lev-el. I am not that shy person anymore.Jake: SAB has greatly affected my college experience this past semester. I have made so many amazing new friends and I found that I truly have friends who will help and support me with anything I need.What is an upcoming event that you’re excited about?Karan: All the events are so fun, but I can’t wait until the Bayou Bash (Spring Fling)!Jake: SPRING FLING!!!

Jeanean Dorsey is the

media coordinator for the Student Life office. She

is pursuing her Associates of Arts degree and studying theatre.

She will transfer to Sam Houston State in the fall to study musical theatre. She enjoys listening to

show tunes, singing, attending concerts, and reading scripts.

Allie Shaw is the new marketing coordinator in the Student Life office. She is a recent graduate

of Sam Houston State University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She is engaged and excited

to get married in March. She enjoys art and graphic design, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Lisa Torres is the new program assistant in the Office of Student Life. She is in her second year at LSC. She is pursu-

ing her Associates of Arts in elementary education and will continue her education at Sam Houston University in the fall of

2012. She enjoys music, chemistry, volleyball and meeting new people!

SAB: In the Spotlightmember recognitionThis past semester the Student Activities Board gained many new members, one of whom is Brooke Bettis. Through hard work and always going the extra mile, Brooke stood out in SAB. When asked, the members replied back with what they each admired about Brooke. Here are

their responses:

• “What I like about Brooke is her kind heart. When she’s at events, or even just in the office. She’s always asking what she can do and what needs to be done to help things go smoothly.”

• “Brooke always has a smile on her face! She always has great ideas to bring to the table and is very motivated! Brooke works hard at the events and never complains about the work she has to put in! She is also a good person to go to for advice and is always there for a shoulder to lean on!”

• “Brooke is always so helpful and never asks for anything in return. At events she’s always so nice, and really cares about SAB and the students.”

A warm thank you for all your hard work, Brooke and Alicia! We can’t wait to have you back with us this semester!

Gay-Straight Alliance club spotlight“Anybody who feels they need a place to belong is welcome,” says GSA President Melissa Leggiero. In addition to participating in annual campus-wide events such as Fall Fest and Spring Fling, the club also has plans for some great events for the upcoming spring semester. This spring semester, GSA plans to work with other student orga-nizations on a “Make It Better” video. In conjunction with “It Gets Better” videos, the purpose of a “Make It Better” video is to show the LSC-Tomball fam-

ily how they can help foster a community of acceptance for all. In addition, GSA is hoping to bring speakers to campus to learn more about issues affecting young people today. As the club is still relatively new on campus, any one interested in changing the face of GSA is welcome to bring their ideas. With an ever-changing world and an increased focus on bullying, the GSA is just the place for anybody who hopes to make the world a tolerant place for all unique individuals.

Culture Trip to the Houston Museum DistrictJoin the Office of Student Life on a day trip to Houston’s museum district! On Friday, March 23rd, the office of Student Life will host an excursion to Houston’s downtown cultural treasure-trove. With eighteen facili-ties, ranging from the Houston Museum of Natural Science to the Contemporary Arts Museum, you’re sure to find a first class experience to fit your tastes. Student Life will take care of the lunch and museum entry fees; you’ll just need to bring curiosity and sense of adventure. The trip is open to all currently enrolled
