FEB 5, 12, 19, 26: DIVERSITY AMONG DENOMINATIONSLeatherbury Hall, led by Reverend Sandra Moyle

What is the difference between a Lutheran and an Episcopalian? A Roman Catholic and a Bap-tist? A Morman and a Moravian? We’ll explore how Christian denominations are the same and how they differ in origins, beliefs, practices and ethics.

MARCH 4, 11, 18, 25: SATAN: THE PERSONIFICATION OF EVIL IN THE BIBLE AND IN CHURCH TRADITION Leatherbury Hall Taught by Fr. Donavan Cain

Our Lenten season begins this year with the familiar account of Jesus being tempted by Sa-tan for 40 days in the Wilderness. The Jesus we encounter in the Lenten Gospel is someone we claim to know well, but Satan, on the other hand, is a Biblical figure in whom only 20% of Epis-copalians say they believe. In this Lenten series, we will examine the evolution of Satan in the Bible, from the Old Testament, where “the accuser” appears only a handful of times, to the New Testament where Satan develops into the personification of all evil. Along the way, we will visit Dante’s Inferno, Milton’s Paradise Lost, and modern movies like The Exorcist and The Passion of the Christ. If you’ve ever had a question about the Devil in modern Christian faith, don’t miss this class!

We have three classes for adults on Sunday mornings, Adult Forum, which meets in Leatherbury Hall, Christianity Today, which meets in Grace House, and Faithful Christian Families, which meets above the bookstore. After having time to grab a cup of coffee and socialize with fellow parishioners and visitors in Leatherbury Hall, we invite you join us for one of these classes.

Breakfast Clubs: 4th, 5th & 6th grades9BThe Breakfast Clubs are separate for boys and girls as they study the Bible and learn to apply Bibles lessons into daily life. Explore the writ-ings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. This survey of the testament looks at how the early church took ownership of and was shaped by the story of Jesus and how the church learned how to develop as disciples and create communities of faith. Participants find a deeper con-versation with the writers of the NT and a renewal of our commitment to be shaped---personally and communally---by the story of Jesus. The study is ac-cessible for adults with little prior Bible experience.

NEHEMIAH ASSEMBLYApril 23, 6 p.m. Potter’s House, 5119 Normandy Blvd.

CELEBRATION/KICKOFFJune 5, 7 p.m., location TBD

About Justice Ministry NetworksICARE is a faith-based organization comprised of 25 congregations in Duval County. Its mis-sion is to powerfully address citywide issues related to issues of justice and fairness. By joining with other congregations in the county we are able to use our combined power to press our elected officials and other city leaders on solutions to the problems that plague our com-munity: crime, the low graduation rate, home-lessness, the high infant mortality rate and other community concerns.

St. Mark’s is in its 4th year of working with ICARE through our congregation’s Justice Ministry Network. The Justice Ministry Network meets several times a year, and some members serve on ICARE research committees that study community problems and develop a solution to the problems. If you are interested in knowing more about ICARE visit thewebsite http://www.icarejax.org/index.html or contact the Rev. Sandra Moyle at [email protected].
