Student Testimonial: Elizabeth Roach“If I can do it after being out of school for 30 years, anyone can do it!” says Elizabeth Roach, a student in the ACE II class (Adults & Children in Education) in Yanceyville. Ms. Roach’s sister, who is also enrolled in ACE II, recruited her to join the class. The “buddy plan” works for these two even though Ms. Roach lives in another county.

“After being out of school for 30 years, I wasn’t sure I could get my GED. My daughter, who earned her GED at Mitchell Community College after being out of school for 11years, told me I should do it (enroll in the GED program),” said Ms. Roach. Although Ms. Roach’s two children are now adults, she has three grandchildren who she wants to help succeed in school. The ACE program gave her the opportunity to do both: study for the GED and learn ways to help her grandchildren learn.

“I was in class two weeks and took two GED tests and passed them! I plan to take two more GED tests before Christmas break and finish the last subject of the GED test in spring semester. I want to graduate from GED and enroll in a medical administration program at PCC,” says Ms. Roach.

ACE II is offered in partnership with Telamon Corporation’s Early Headstart program. Contact Early Headstart Telamon Director, Angela Wilson, at (336) 694-6942 or PCC at (336) 694-5707, ext. 238. Cherie Bevill is PCC’s ACE Instructor/Coordinator. Elizabeth Roach
