It figures. Nearly HALF of the homeless population is under the age of 25. 44,083 Australians under the age of 26 are homeless at any given time. The majority of them are just entering adulthood, a crucial time for anyone looking to build a career, gain stability and get on their own two feet. THE IMPORTANT STUFF It’s not all sleeping rough. Primary homelessness is what people typically refer to as ‘rough sleeping’ and it’s commonly understood as an old man sleeping on a park bench. Even though this is the smallest portion of homeless people, it is the most public form and talked about most within our community. It’s never knowing. Couch surfing (which isn’t as cool as it sounds) is how young people typically experience homelessness. It is the experience of moving around temporarily on people’s couches, whether they be friends, family, foes or strangers.
