Spotted Lanternfly Volunteer Tree Banding Program
This is the screen you will want to reach. There are a few fields that are automatically filled out and some that you will add.
The ultimate goal is to record as accurately as possible where you hung the tree band(s).
The only information we require is denoted by an asterisk.
![Page 14: SPOTTED LANTERNFLY VOLUNTEER BANDING PROGRAM · Tree Banding: Trap Numbers On your traps follow this numbering system: Use your VOULUNTEER number, then a sequential number. Your first](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062414/5f1718d903d4fe0bbd4fcee4/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
The first step is to enter the location name, which is going to be your team name and band number: SLV01-0001
![Page 15: SPOTTED LANTERNFLY VOLUNTEER BANDING PROGRAM · Tree Banding: Trap Numbers On your traps follow this numbering system: Use your VOULUNTEER number, then a sequential number. Your first](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062414/5f1718d903d4fe0bbd4fcee4/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Next select your county from the drop down menu. (For this example we will band at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture) So we would select “Dauphin (PA)” from the dropdown for our county.
![Page 16: SPOTTED LANTERNFLY VOLUNTEER BANDING PROGRAM · Tree Banding: Trap Numbers On your traps follow this numbering system: Use your VOULUNTEER number, then a sequential number. Your first](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062414/5f1718d903d4fe0bbd4fcee4/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
The next two fields “Latitude” and “Longitude” are also required but we have a handy tool to get those. Instead skip down the box marked “Address” and put in the closest address to where you scraped. Then you can click on the “Find Location” button next to the text box, or zoom in using the navigation tools.
![Page 17: SPOTTED LANTERNFLY VOLUNTEER BANDING PROGRAM · Tree Banding: Trap Numbers On your traps follow this numbering system: Use your VOULUNTEER number, then a sequential number. Your first](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062414/5f1718d903d4fe0bbd4fcee4/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
The map below will update the closet point to the address. You can also see that the “Latitude” and “Longitude” also automatically filled in. However, in our example I didn’t band the front door of the building but on a nearby tree. We can make our location more exact using the map below.
![Page 18: SPOTTED LANTERNFLY VOLUNTEER BANDING PROGRAM · Tree Banding: Trap Numbers On your traps follow this numbering system: Use your VOULUNTEER number, then a sequential number. Your first](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062414/5f1718d903d4fe0bbd4fcee4/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
To zoom in or out you can use the plus “+” or minus “-” symbols on the left
To switch between a map view or satellite view (the current view) you can use the buttons on the top right.
![Page 19: SPOTTED LANTERNFLY VOLUNTEER BANDING PROGRAM · Tree Banding: Trap Numbers On your traps follow this numbering system: Use your VOULUNTEER number, then a sequential number. Your first](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062414/5f1718d903d4fe0bbd4fcee4/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
So for our example we banded a tree. To update the map to the correct spot all we need to is click were you banded.
By clicking to the trees not only did our point move but the “Latitude” and “Longitude” also updated to the new spot. If you can’t see where you were working immediately you can also drag the map around by holding down the left click button and dragging the map.

Helpful Tips
It is important to be consistent with labeling your bands (volunteer number and band number).
For every placement service, the band count will always be zero.
Bands are replaced every two weeks. But the band number remains the same throughout the season.
When adding a service (count and replace, or remove) search by location name. If you search the incorrect name you will not find it (SLV01-01 instead of SLV01-0001). It might be helpful to record your band names for future use.
