You know enough about deer and elk hunting and have had enough experience with your boots on the ground with rifle in hand? You have a few buglers in your pocket and are at that age where your legs have gotten shorter and your mind gotten bigger so you don’t have to run to the top of every mountain to check for elk? If you can read the above and say those fateful words, “I DO” then I have the hunt for you. Yes, Hunting Property with access to acres and acres of public land, lodging, but you will have to cook your own meals in the Cabin or, house that is provided. If there are 2 hunters it is only $1595, or 3 hunters $1495, or 4 hunters only $ 1395 !!!! As you know Colorado has a draw system which always complicates things but what we have done to take some of the complication out of it, for the 1 price you can hunt deer, buck elk, bull or cow elk, or both or all 3 if you wish. At a high level 2nd season and 3rd season which are around the end of October and the first part of November are over the counter unlimited bull elk license. The 1st season in Mid-October and the 4th season in mid-November are draw bull elk licenses with left overs. It usually doesn’t take any points to draw the 1st and 4th season but you must put in an application in early March to be able to draw a license. Archery which consumer almost all of September and during the elk run is over the counter unlimited. With that said here is one place Colorado SEASON APPLICATIIONS GET COMPLEX. In GMU24 and

GMU004 the over the counter archery license is only good for private land. If you want one for public land which also covers private land you must draw it, and it required 1 point to draw. Muzzleloader season is 10 days in the middle of September, a great time to shoot a big bull during the rut as he is love sick and can be called in. Muzzle loaders must be of the primitive, no scope, no pellets, no saboted bullets and more, but then again a bull during rut is coming to a cow or a bull that took his cow he wants to get close up and personal. Shots 100 feet instead of 100 yards can be waiting for you in the Colorado Mountains. To draw a muzzleloader license it usually takes 2 points for regular areas. There are some vouchers for quality areas that become quite pricy but are a tool to take some large Colorado bulls. Mule Deer are on the re-bound from a population slump that was caused by many items in many areas and even the biologists did some head scratching blaming. They site Mountain Lions, Coyotes, and a few bad winters, plus drought years. It is unknown just exactly what but Mother Nature has blessed up and they seem to be building the population every year. Mule deer can be hunted during the archery, muzzleloader, 2nd rifle, 3rd rifle only for the most part in the areas known as the mountain areas west of interstate which divides the center of the state. The eastern plains hunts have their own season dates so we won’t mention them here. Bear is a September hunt. As they gorge themselves on berries, acorns, flowers, carrion and since they are omnivores anything they can finds to consumer they are out feeding and hitting water holes 20 of every 24 hours to build as much fat for the winter as possible. The trigger that stops them from feeding and drives them into hibernation is the lack of a food supply. As the temperature cool their food sources diminish and they find a place to call home for the winter and disappear. Colorado is a free ranging bear state like most of the US you can’t bait or use dogs. It is a difficult hunt to success in but some do every year during the September big game seasons. On this hunt you can take deer, elk bear as long as you have the licenses for each. Many times sitting by a water hole on a warm September day waiting for deer or elk a bear can appear out of no-where. If they are eating 20 hours per day they need to be drinking 20 hours per day. If you do have a bear license be aware of the tagging requirements because they are different from deer and elk, bear you must have it checked in by a Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer. Welcome to Craig/Meeker Colorado the epicenter of the highest elk density in the world. This is a 4, 5 or 6 day hunt depending on the season and weapon you hunt with and how long the season allows. There are two properties one in GMU011 (up to 6 hunters) and one in GMU024 (up to 4 hunters). We offer lodging at both so you can hunt, sleep and eat on the property. Both have electrical service and can handle a camping trailer plugin, so all you have to focus on is bringing home the bacon. Colorado has an archery, muzzleloader, 1st rifle, 2nd rifle, and 3rd rifle and a 4th rifle for elk. The archery license is over the counter along with the 2nd and 3rd seasons. While the Muzzleloader, along with the 1st and 4th elk seasons are a draw but don’t require any points. The deer seasons are much more limited with archery, muzzleloader, plus the 2nd and 3rd rifle season. All deer license are draw which means you must put in for the license drawing with the application deadline the end of March. Before you can put in for a license if you want to hunt with us you must put down your deposit money and book a date to hunt. We aren’t like everyone else so our package on hunting deer and elk aren’t like everyone else’s. We offer what we call a guide choice hunt. In the past while hunting and fishing different locations around the country one of our biggest frustrations with doing a hunt/fishing trip on our own is it takes half the trip or longer to figure out how to hunt/fish the various locations. We know you're a good hunter, as we are, and can handle the hunt on your own. But wouldn’t it be nice to have access to a guide for just a day or two. On all our DIY hunts we offer a day rate for guide service. Let us take you out, show you where we would hunt, and hopefully put you on an animal. We then turn you lose to hunt on your own for the remainder

of the hunt. Or if your hunting has been slow and you think a guide may improve your luck, you can give us a call and we will be happy to assist as needed. For the DIY hunters we offer two great properties to choose from. Guided/Not Guided Choice Hunts Subject to availability, the Guide option is $ 750 per day providing a guide and a side by side Polaris Ranger, providing hunting guiding and assistance getting the elk or deer out. If it is 1 hunter it is 750 if it is all hunters it is still just a $750 charge to split up. Please make prior arrangement because the guide option books up fast. Pack out service is based on availability either by us or any one of the retrieval outfits around prices average $300.00 for removal unless you are paying for a guide at the time. One very unique item about this hunting unit is that you can draw a September muzzleloader license for deer with no points, but archers requires 1 point to draw in this area so Muzzleloader have this area to themselves for the middle of September. This is also a prime time for bear in that area and the bear is a regular rifle hunt during the month of September. Overview of you hunt options in General Archery and Muzzleloader Hunts: •We recommend hunters prepare physically for their hunt. Archery and muzzleloader hunters can expect to hike extensively on rugged and uneven terrain at elevations ranging from 6300' to 8500'. Good hiking boots are a must, and clothing should consist of light weight camouflage clothing from head to toe. The Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) requires muzzle loader hunters wear blaze orange on the head and torso while in the field. •Day time temps in September typically rise into the mid 70’s and night time lows generally drop into the high 30’s to low 40’s. Rain and snow are not common in September but it does happen. Light waterproof gear is recommended. •The CDOW outlines the minimum draw weight and archery equipment as well as muzzle loader caliber required to hunt big game in Colorado. Please verify that your equipment meets the CDOW requirements. SBO will work to get you the shot you want, though big game animals have a mind of their own. We ask all our archery hunters to practice shooting and be consistent to 50 yards prior to the beginning of your hunt. Rifle Hunts: •As the hunting seasons move further into the fall the temperatures continue to drop. October rifle hunting is great. Hunters can expect day time highs in the 50’s to low 60’s with night time lows dipping below freezing. Plan to bring your cold weather hunting gear as well as warm boots. CDOW requires blaze orange when out in the field. We recommend a light blaze orange vest that can be worn over your cold weather jacket and either a blaze orange hat, beany or both. •Rifle hunters please visit the CDOW website to verify your rifle caliber meets the minimum for the big game species you are hunting. Western Colorado is big country with deep canyons and massive rolling mountains. We strive to put our hunters in the best position possible to make a clean ethical shot on guided hunts but DIY’s that is your responsibility. This sometimes is easier said than done. We recommend your rifle is zeroed at 200 yards and you are comfortable shooting that distance and beyond.

Be sure to continually track weather patterns for this area to help with any and all possible weather conditions. • Pickup Truck/Jeep and ATV’s (trucks will need to stay on the main roads so jeep or ATV’s would be nice to get around on all the two track roads.) Gas station is only a few miles from camp so no need to bring excessive extra fuel. • Two meat processors within a few miles of camp. • Optional Guide Services: Must be requested / acquired by August 15th. • Retrieval service if needed from Sullivan Bros Outfitting. • Maps of ranch are provided. Accommodations: WHAT WE PROVIDE • Bedding: Beds with mattresses and covers. o Please bring blankets, pillows, and/or sleeping bag • Bath towels and toiletries provided • Fully functioning kitchen, pots, pans, cups, plates and utensils provided • BBQ and propane provided o You will need to bring everything for cooking. Groceries, drinks, everything that goes into your meals. There are a number of restaurants, a, couple bars, one liquor store “Ol Crows”, sporting goods store, grocery store and hardware store in Meeker. We want your hunt to be relaxing, enjoyable, and worry free for everyone. South East Meeker Ranch (SEM) in GMU024 The first ranch we call The SE Meeker (SEM) ranch, covered in tall aspen and pine trees, a mountain creek flowing near the cabin and direct access to the White River National Forest, this SEM acre piece of paradise is a perfect hunter’s base camp. Elevations in this hunting area start near 7,500' and in some spots can climb over 11,000'. Hunters are welcome to use the cabin on the ranch or set up your camper or tent it is accessible via a gravel road. This rustic cabin can comfortably sleep four. It has electricity and a wood burning stove, refrigerator, couch, table, electric stove, pots and pans, and an outhouse. You will need your food and water and a pan to put in the sink for washing dishes. There is no running water so most hunters bring water and there is water nearby to refill. Then they go into town for showers or do sponge baths.

Regrettably there is no running water to the cabin and will need to be provided by the hunter. There is a spring that runs the length of the property that is an elk, deer, and bear attraction on hot days. Shower facilities are only a short 15 minute drive from camp, and can be purchased with other necessities from the Buford General Store. Hunting locations are best accessed by ATV but hunting off horse back or foot is common to be careful not to bump the deer and elk out of reach. There is a trail at the top that will take you into the National forest. It is not uncommon for National Forest hunters to push deer and elk down that trail where they will melt away in the scrub oak. There is 450 deeded acres with a fence around the perimeter. The heavy cover is a favorite of deer and elk and it is no uncommon to see bear on the property. To the north over the fence is thousands of acres of the White River National Forest. On the part that is adjacent to the 450 acres is about 1500 acres of White River National Forest that because of the lay of the land provides a natural road block and therefore seldom ever sees a hunter. We typically book DIY hunts with up to four hunters per group starting the first day of archery season and continue booking through the fourth combined deer and elk rifle season. DIY hunts are four day hunts with time allowed for the hunter to arrive the day before the hunt starts and leave the day after the hunt ends. We do not try to combine groups of hunters so there is no worry about hunting with someone outside of your hunting party in most cases. Remember you are paying for the access to the property for hunting deer, elk and bear, not for the lodging we are providing that for free, take care of it like it is yours if you choose to use it. The group that pays the deposit has the first rights to the lodging. If there is a second group used to make the total hunting the property the first group can decide if they want the second group in the cabin with them. If they don’t the second group must provide their own lodging, tent, motorhome, or in town. Hunting tips: There is a spring that provides water to the animals in the area but there are also other sources. In the later season with snow available and colder temperatures the water is not much of an attractant except for the heavy cover it produces. The habitat is has a lot of scrub oak that is used for acorns if available but always for cover. This area is best hunted by starting the morning on a vantage point watching for deer and elk then doing a spot and stalk to their location. There are a number of areas that provide vantage points. Watch the area on the north side where the National Forest land is matched up to the private property boarder. It is not uncommon for the deer and elk to be pushed off of the National Forest and come to the private scrub oak land for safety. NW Meeker Ranch (NWM) in GMU011 The second location is a ranch we call NW Meeker with nearly 2500 acres of private ground adjacent to thousands of acres of BLM land, of which 1500 of it is guidable the rest is DIY this property has plenty of space to hunt. Rolling cedar country with irrigated farm land, old wheat fields and large sage flats. You can stay right off highway 64 there is a functioning mobile home with running water and a shower in which you can stay in or feel free to haul in your camper. The mobile home has everything with running water to do dishes and for showers. The second location is a ranch we call NW Meeker with nearly 2500 acres of private ground adjacent to thousands of acres of BLM land, of which 1500 acres of it is guidable the rest is DIY property so you have plenty of space to hunt. Hunting tips: There are irrigated alfalfa meadows that for the archers and early season hunter, until mid-October even have irrigation water with the alfalfa. After that the irrigation goes away but there are still ponds on the property. Your hunting altitude will be about 6,500-7,500 or so. The habitat is alfalfa hay meadow, sage, cedars, scrub oak and pinyon pines. This area is best hunted by starting the morning on a vantage point watching for deer and elk then doing a spot and stalk to their location. There are a number of areas that provide vantage points. This is usually hunter on ATV’s of some type. Watch the area on the west side where the BLM land is matched up to the private property boarder. It is not uncommon for the deer and elk to be pushed off of the BLM and come to the private land for safety. Deer and elk with both head for the thick junipers or cedars when hunted so don’t be surprised if one materializes out of nowhere when you are watching the junipers. The road is one of your boarders with a fence on the other two sides dividing you from other property. The outfitter has the options to define how many hunters may hunt the property and use the cabin lodging. Elk, Deer and Bear of all sizes are taken by hunters of many skill levels. The opportunity is there but because we have no control as to what hunters take or pass we do not provide any definition as to what size animals are there at any given time. Do-It-Yourself Hunts: We will allow up to five hunters per group in SW Meeker Property and up to 7 in the North West Meeker Property. (Note Archery, Muzzleloader and Bear prices are reduced. The rifle seasons are on a sliding scale to be able to provide the groups with 4 or more hunters the lowered price.) The archery is 6 day hunts (Saturday-Friday), the muzzleloader are 4 day splitting the season into the first half and the 2nd half with a break in the middle. The 1st and 4th rifle is 5 days which in their cases is the total season. The 2nd and the 3rd season are split season for the first 4 days or the last 4 days with a 2 day break in between. There is a Split season discount prices on second half of the season. The 4 day hunt has a $200 discount per hunter over the calculated first 4 day price. Elk are moving at this time of the year due to weather and hunter pressure. It is always good to be the first one in there after the property has not been hunted or the 1st half to catch deer and elk that have moved into the property while it is vacant of hunters. Let me also state that this being said, more important than the date is the weather this time of the year for elk movement providing shooting opportunities. If a snow storm hits between the 1st half and the second half the second half may very well be better than the 1st half. The elk calendar and the human calendar don’t align very well because elk are driven by weather and other condition for which the human calendar takes no account. The Little Snake River. The lower elevations of 6,000’ consist of sage and sage steepe. Pinyon and juniper cover the upper elevations up to 8,500’. Expect zero to light snow cover in 1st & 2nd seasons. The later seasons may bring moderate snow and a potential for near zero temperatures. If the weather is mild, deer and elk will not be present in high numbers until the later seasons. Overall access is easy and 4WD is not necessary in most areas. Hunting pressure is heavy. DEER INFORMATION The buck-doe ratio is increasing. The mid-range elevations with mountain shrub and Pinyon-juniper breaks generally hold the most deer, especially during the regular rifle seasons. Movement occurs with weather and hunting pressure. Private lands are always felt to be safety zones from deer trying to avoid all of the hunters on the public land. ELK INFORMATION The large elk herd occupies all available habitat. The later seasons are usually better, especially on public land, due to snow and hunting pressure pushing the elk out of the adjacent units. The success rate is very good on late cow elk hunts. Axial Basin CRM is a hot spot for hunting, but crowding is significant. The best bull hunting will be on private lands. Elk If it’s elk you want then it’s elk you must have. Northwest Colorado boasts the largest elk herd in the lower 48 states. The sheer numbers of the herd are staggering. It’s not uncommon to see numerous elk each day and in the later hunts the herds can get into the hundreds. Elk hunting with us has statistically been great; good shot opportunities on quality bulls. In 1985, the CDOW adopted a four point per side or better regulation on bull elk to better manage the herd. This regulation over the years has dramatically increased the quality and maturity of our bull elk herd and increased the hunter’s opportunity to harvest a large mature bull. Our elk hunters have enjoyed high shot opportunities and a better than the average kills percentage. No matter what method you choose- archery, muzzleloader, or rifle we have a bull waiting for you! Mule Deer Western Colorado has always been known for its quality Mule deer bucks. The magazine American Hunter recently published an article on the top areas to hunt trophy Mule deer in North America. Colorado over the past 10 years has had more Boone and Crocket bucks recorded than any other state. If you’re looking for a quality buck and possibly one for the books, we can help. We have taken numerous large bucks in our area and the scouting report this year looks good. Mule deer tags are draw only and most hunts require a couple preference points, up to well over ten depending on the season selected. The best chance to draw a Game Management Unit GMU022 buck tag is during the September archery/muzzleloader hunts. The most difficult tag to draw is in the mid November fourth season rifle buck hunt. The lucky hunter who draws this tag will get to hunt those big Mules in the middle of the rut. We do receive between two and three private land Mule deer buck voucher “tags” each year. If it’s a big black bruin you are looking for, well we have them. Black ones, brown ones, auburn ones and yes blonde ones. The Rocky Mountain regions have a 10% color phase bear populations the highest occurrence in the nation and I am certain we have our share. Black bears in Colorado have reached troublesome numbers. It’s not uncommon to see bears nearly every day on the ranch during the summer and early fall. Hunting black bears in Colorado is a unique and exciting hunt. We spend days in the field watching and patterning the bears that move around our hunting area. Challenging as this hunt sounds; we put in every effort to make your hunt successful. If its archery/muzzleloader or rifle, we are confident we can get you that shot. We offer a stand-alone early September bear hunt. This awesome four day hunt is by draw only. With the large numbers of black bears in our area, the odds of drawing a tag are very good. In September they are doing everything possible to fill their stomachs as full as possible by eating over 20 of every 24 hours. Sarvice berries and scrub oak acorns if they are available are good locations to watch but a gut pile will always see a visitor in less than 24 hours. Water supplies that can be accessed without exposing themselves to an open area can be hit many times in a day while gorging themselves with everything they can in preparation for winter. The population of bears is higher in the Meeker SE ranch but there are bears in both of the ranches to let the truth be known. Combine a deer or elk hunt with your bear hunt and double the fun! Archery and Muzzleloader Hunts: • We recommend hunters prepare physically for their hunt. Archery and muzzleloader hunters can expect to hike extensively on rugged and uneven terrain at elevations ranging from 6300' to 8500'. Good hiking boots are a must, and clothing should consist of light weight camouflage clothing from head to toe. The Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) requires muzzle loader hunters wear blaze orange on the head and torso while in the field. • Day time temps in September typically rise into the mid 70’s and night time lows generally drop into the high 30’s to low 40’s. Rain and snow are not common in September but it does happen. Light waterproof gear is recommended. • The CDOW outlines the minimum draw weight and archery equipment as well as muzzle loader caliber required to hunt big game in Colorado. Please verify that your equipment meets the CDOW requirements. We will work to get you the shot you want, though big game animals have a mind of their own. We ask all our archery hunters to practice shooting and be consistent to 50 yards prior to the beginning of your hunt. Rifle Hunts: • As the hunting seasons move further into the fall the temperatures continue to drop. October rifle hunting is great. Hunters can expect day time highs in the 50’s to low 60’s with night time lows dipping below freezing. Plan to bring your cold weather hunting gear as well as warm boots. CDOW requires blaze orange when out in the field. We recommends a light blaze orange vest that can be worn over your cold weather jacket and either a blaze orange hat, beany or both. • Rifle hunters please visit the CDOW website to verify your rifle caliber meets the minimum for the big game species you are hunting. Western Colorado is big country with deep canyons and massive rolling mountains. We strive to put its hunters in the best position possible to make a clean ethical shot. This sometimes is easier said than done. We recommend your rifle is zeroed at 200 yards and you are comfortable shooting that distance and beyond.

• Hunter Safety Cards are required if the hunter was born after 1/1/1949. If you have a hunter safety card from your resident state that will suffice. If you don’t have one a quick computer course on line in Colorado that will work for one year. It is best to see what courses are available in your own state and get certified there because you will need a card to get a license. It is all done for your safety and has cut the hunting incident down to almost 0 in the state. Hunt, have a good time, take something home, and be safe, we all want to do it again next year.
