The Lady Tiger varsity team posted a 15-13 mark and competed in the Class 3A State Tournament. Head Coach Lisa Schumacher announced that Sterling senior Tyler Chrisman was selected All- Conference in the Patriot League and sophomore Shayla Klein received Honorable Mention All- Conference. Chrisman was also selected All- State in Class 3A. Receiving varsity letters were for the 2012 season were: First year – Sophomores Maggie Adney, Shaylyn Burkholder, Daria Kramer, Maren Patten, Emma Scholz, Kayla Smock and Emily Werner. Second year – Senior Megan Zimmerman; juniors Jamie Sheldon and Regan Wheeler and sophomores Mackenzie Chrisman and Shayla Klein. Third year – Senior Megan Smock and juniors Alex Masters and Alexis Bohler. Fourth year – Senior Tyler Chrisman. Elana Wolfley and Ana Avitia also received a first year letters as managers. Team award winners included: Rookie of the Year – Emma Scholz. Team Captain – Tyler Chrisman. Tiger Award (Effort, attitude, work ethic, leadership) – Megan Smock and Megan Zimmerman. Outstanding Net Play – Regan Wheeler and Mackenzie Chrisman. Most Consistent Server – Alex Masters. Best Defensive Players – Jamie Sheldon and Alexis Bohler. Best Offensive Player – Tyler Chrisman. Outstanding Attitude – Shayla Klein. Breakout Player – Shayla Klein. Golden Spike Awards (100- plus kills) – Tyler Chrisman, 251; Shayla Klein, 146; Alex Masters, 134; Regan Wheeler, 118. Receiving Certificates of Participation were: Sophomores Karlee Davis, Jenna Dillenburg, Taylor Gareis, Anna Kenney and Haley Schadegg and freshmen Josie Blagg, Sierra Fleharty, Victoria Lopez, Cyntera May, Angelica Roque, Emily Rutherford, Taylor Shino, Katie Swanson, Khalie Tidemann and Elena Wolfley. The annual Carlile Classic will be held at Peetz High School Friday and Saturday to open the 2012-13 basketball season. Teams in the tournament are the Peetz boy’s and girl’s teams; the Caliche boy’s and girl’s teams; the Fleming boy’s and girl’s teams and the Lone Star boy’s and girl’s teams. The tournament gets underway at 4 p.m. Friday with the Caliche Lady Buffaloes taking on the Fleming Lady Wildcats. At 5:30 p.m. the Caliche and Fleming boy’s squads will face off. At 7 p.m. the Peetz Lady Bulldogs will play the Lone Star Lady Longhorns and at 8:30 p.m. the Peetz and Lone Star boys will meet. The girl’s third place game will start at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by the boy’s third place contest at 3:30 p.m. The girl’s championship game is at 5 p.m. with the boy’s championship contest at 6:30 p.m. Last year Caliche won both the boy’s and girl’s championships of the Carlile Classic, with both Fleming teams placing second, the Peetz teams third and the Lone Star teams fourth. The Merino boy’s and girl’s basketball teams will compete in Class 2A this season, and will open their seasons Friday at Akron and will host Haxtun Saturday. Both will be non-league match-ups.
