Summer Term 2019
We come to the end of another academic year, having enjoyed a hugely successful summer term. Last
Saturday 5 July, our Year 7 & 8 athletics team travelled to Chelmsford for the National Track and Field
Cup Final. As the events got underway, there was an announcement that Croydon High School were
welcomed to this National event for the first time ever. What a special feeling for the girls who then rose
to the challenge by achieving many personal best performances. Croydon High came 12th out of the last 14
schools standing, which is a wonderful achievement. The girls loved every minute of it!
Wednesday 10 July was Sports Day and what a wonderful day it turned out to be. The weather was
perfect and everyone entered into the spirit of a whole school event. We were treated to some incredible
performances from girls in nursery right through to Lower Sixth and many school sports day records
were broken! Our sincere thanks must go to Mrs Beck who worked tirelessly to ensure that the event ran
smoothly and was enjoyed by one and all.

Senior Sports’ Dinner Friday 5 July
What a special evening! It was fantastic to have 73 senior pupils join us for our inaugural Senior Sports’
Dinner. Parents joined us for pre-dinner drinks in the drama courtyard and also voted for team of the
year after our four captains had reported on why their particular team should receive this accolade. The
four nominated teams were: Y9 biathlon team, Y10 netball team, Y9/10 athletics team and Y9/10 cross
country team. Over the course of the evening, we looked back on the wonderful year and all of our
sporting highlights. Sara Bayman was our special guest and kindly agreed to be with us to present our
awards. Sara played netball for England for many years and latterly, she captained the team. Having
hung up her trainers the season before last, she has now turned to a coaching role and in her first year
as coach of Loughborough Lightning, she has been voted the Vitality Superleague netball coach of the
year! Sara spoke to us all about her own sporting journey and inspired us to be the best we can possibly
be. We all loved listening to the positive message she was delivering. Sara is commentating for the BBC
at the Netball World Cup starting on Friday 12 July so we hope you will all tune in.

Goodbye
Sadly we have to say goodbye to Mrs Copland at the end of this term. She is off to seek pastures new and
we thank her for everything that she has done for us. Mrs Copland has been a fantastic asset to the
department for two years and her expertise has proved invaluable. We will all miss her!
Thank You
We all wish you a relaxing and happy Summer break. Parents, you have been so generous with your
time in transporting girls here, there and everywhere and girls, you have all been absolute superstars!
Let’s hope there are many more years to come with such great commitment, loyalty and an ever
increasing number of girls involving themselves in sport.
Thank you to everyone who has shown support, in whatever way, this year.

organising it and raising £400 for charity.
