This person was no stranger to sports, as from a young age, he grew up hearing stories of how his grandfather Dennis once took Rod Laver to 5 sets at Wimbledon.

He first came to national attention in 2005 when, as a sixteen-year-old, he hit 55 off a single over(three no-balls, eight sixes, one four) in a pro-celebrity match at Lord’s.

Ironically though, he had been picked for his fast bowling ability.

Which current cricketer?

What had been missed by almost everyone was that as X had swung round to complete the shot he flicked the stumps with his foot and the off-side bail jumped in the air and back into the slot.

Russell had seen it and was relieved the bail stayed out and he had not had to appeal. “I thought to myself that if I do I won't make it home,” he said. “I'll be lynched. The bail didn't fall off in the end but it stayed slightly out of its slot.”

Who exactly is X, and why was Russell afraid?

him past Gary Sober’s epic 365. For obvious reasons, English keeper Jack Russell was terrified of appealing.

The traditional curtain raiser to the Indian domestic season is named after a former Mysore state cricketer whose cricinfo profile is given alongside.

Played with some novel rules, the uniqueness of this tournament lies in the fact that it is the first 4-day tournament in India that takes place before the Ranji Trophy in a season.

Which tournament is this?

Three sets of brothers played for the first time ever in a Test match when the Flowers, X and Y represented Zimbabwe against New Zealand in the first Test at Harare in September 1997.

The occasion became a unique one and a family affair when cousins Z joined the three sets of brothers in an ODI against New Zealand at Harare in October.

Amazingly, the only three players who were without a family connection in the eleven, were skipper Alistair Campbell, David Houghton and Craig Evans.

Give me each of the Zimbabwean cricketing families X, Y and Z. (X and Y interchangeable)

In 1999, X rattled out 3 novels in the space of 4 months. They were all based on the fictional adventures of football manager Steve Barnes, and while reviews may have been somewhat mixed, they appear to have become collectors' items.

Striker! hit the book shelves in Dec, 1999 and was described by a reviewer as 'one of the most poorly written books I have ever read, yet hugely satisfying.' Another provided just as perverse an analysis, saying: 'Something about this book makes it absolutely brilliant, even though it's, err, awful!'

Undeterred, or should that be encouraged, the then centre-back rushed out Sweeper! two months later, and Defender! after that.

While being no T S Eliot or Samuel Beckett, X is still a well known footballing name. X?

St Albans City FC, a football club in the sixth tier of English football, is famous for an FA Cup match it played in 1922 which it incredibly lost 7-8 to Dulwich Hamlet. What put the game in the record books was that City scored 7 times, with all 7 goals being scored by its star striker Wilfred Minter, whose feat remains the highest tally by a player on the losing side of an FA Cup tie.

The club was again in news last October when its star striker John Frendo missed its FA Cup Qualifier against Concord Rangers, which they lost 1-0.

What was Frendo’s excuse for missing the match, a sin which could probably be forgiven by football fans?

In a particular season, X were 8-1 with the bookies to win the league- after they'd played their final game.

X’s destiny was so far out of their hands that they could barely see it, never mind touch it. The players and coach were holidaying in Majorca and the Isles of Scilly when they were informed that Liverpool had drawn and that Leeds- absurdly asked to play two days after the FA Cup final- had lost 2-1.

Even the coach Y, who was never shy about pronouncing his ability to walk on water, said: "I do not believe in miracles, but one has occurred tonight." And for once, he had nothing to do with it.

In the year 1994, in one of the strangest football matches of all time, Barbados were leading a game against Grenada 2-1 in the 87th minute, when astonishingly they scored an own goal to make the score 2-2.

What followed next was even more astonishing. Grenada were now trying to score a goal in either net, and the Barbados players were trying hard to defend them both.

What unusual rule lead to this comical series of events?

In Aug 1986, as a consequence of promotion to Serie C2, X was forced to move from their own stadium to the Stadio Bentegodi, home to the then Serie A champions and city neighbours Y.

Y being a mid-size club, soon had financial difficulties and became a yo-yo club between Serie A and Serie B. X in 1994 under the guidance of Alberto Malesani won the C1 title and entered Serie B.

Thus, on Dec 10, 1994, the city had its first derby, which ended 1-1. The bigger club Y managed to escape the second division and went back into Serie A, continually mocking their rivals but never again reaching the heights of that 1985 title triumph.

From 2001/02 onwards, the fortunes of X and Y completely reversed. While X won promotion to the Serie A, Y were relegated and in the next 11 years, managed to even touch the lows of Serie C1.

Three things required- X, Y and the city they are based in.

Legend has it that as X was leaving, a young boy begged of him, "Say it ain't so, X," and that X did not respond.

In an interview in SPORT nearly three decades later, X contended that this story was a myth, and what really happened was one urchin stepped up to him, and grabbing his coat sleeve, said:

"It ain't true, is it, X?" "Yes, kid, I'm afraid it is," X replied. The boys opened a path for

him and stood in silence until he passed out of sight. "Well, I'd never have thought it," sighed the lad. Nonetheless, the "Say It Ain't So" story remains an oft-repeated

and well-known part of sporting lore involving which famous player X?

X is the most populous city of Argentina that is not a state capital. Notable as the city of birth of Che Guevara, it is also famous as the hometown of a legend Y.

The exceptional skills displayed by Y have led to nicknames such as "La Maga" ("The Magician") and "Diego", often evoking comparisons to Argentina’s most famous son.

Y was an integral part of the Argentinian team that dominated the sport for an entire generation, with Y’s only regret being the absence of an Olympic Gold Medal despite all the dominance.

X was born prematurely, and was the twentieth of twenty two siblings. Having contracted infantile paralysis (caused by the polio virus) at age four, X wore a leg brace until the age of nine. X was required to wear an orthopaedic shoe for another two years.

By the age of twelve, X had also survived bouts of polio and scarlet fever.

In 1956, a promising 19-year-old Australian was chosen to light the Olympic Flame in the iconic MCG during the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Melbourne.

The 19 year old transformed into one of the best known middle and long distance runners in the 1960s, and set 17 world records. But the tragic undertone of his career was that he could never be the claimant of an Olympic Gold medal, a bronze in the 10,000 m at Tokyo being his only purchase.

In 1968, Emil Zatopek invited the Australian to Czechoslovakia, and as a parting gift he gave him his 1952 Olympic 10,000 m gold medal with the following words:“Not out of friendship but because you deserve it.”

Bikila was warned beforehand that his main rival was wearing number 26. During the race he passed numerous runners as he searched for Rhadi's number 26. By about 20 km, Bikila and Rhadi (actually wearing number 185) had created a gap from the rest of the pack. Bikila kept looking forward to find the runner with number 26, unaware that Rhadi was running right beside him. They stayed together until the last 500 m, when Bikila sprinted to the finish line.

The documentary mainly follows the American Lindsey Van (different from Vonn) who describes how she feels about the exclusion of women in the professional X world.

This is what X had to say in his post match interview. Q. Del Potro was upset in the second set, he felt you ___________________.

What was your view of that point?X: I was fortunate that the line judge didn’t see it. It’s a lucky thing for me in my sense, unlucky for him. Something that can go really both ways. It’s sort of the exact same thing as having no challenges left and you get a bad line call. It’s like a bad-luck thing. It was hard to sort of be able to take this point on such a big point.

Q. He seemed to think you should have called it on yourself.X: It’s a big point. I don’t know. If you can put somebody in the situation being down breakpoint, same thing happens, do you call it on yourself?

Perhaps in a game of tennis the stakes have never been higher for a player than they were in the Davis Cup Final of 1937, where X was literally playing for his life.

X was a German, homosexual (apparently) and had married a girl with Jewish lineage. To make matters worse, he was quite outspoken against the Nazis. So the chances of him getting arrested on his return to Germany were very high.

Sure enough on his return to Germany, X was arrested and tried for homosexuality, but connections at the right place helped X to escape from any charges.

X is a relatively recent development in chess, and somewhat controversial.

Used as the last resort to break ties in high level events, the X game is guaranteed to produce a result, because Black has draw odds, that is, for Black, a draw is equal to a victory.

To compensate, White has more time on the clock. Common times are six minutes for White and five for Black, or five minutes for White and four for Black.

Snooker breaks exceeding 147 A break higher than 147 can be achieved when

an opponent fouls and leaves the incoming player snookered on all 15 reds. The player can nominate one of the other colours as a red, known as a "free ball", which carries the same value as a red for just that shot. By potting the free ball followed by a colour, then the reds with colours and then clearing up, the player can compile a break of more than 147, with 155 being the maximum possible score, achieved by Cope in 2005
