Sports Premium Report – C Mallinson Rationale Morley Newlands Academy recognises that all pupils regardless of their background should have equal access to a curriculum which will enable them to reach their potential. The sports funding premium is a Government initiative that targets extra money to all pupils and all schools. The Government are not dictating how schools should spend this money, but are clear that schools will need to employ the strategies that they know will support these pupils to increase their active participation in sports. Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Possible uses for the funding might include: • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE • Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport • Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport • Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs • Pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools Vision We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all and encourage collaboration and partnership working to make the best use of resources and enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils. We want all children to enjoy PE and access sports and activities which they would not usually have the opportunities to take part in. We would like to develop the competitive provision across school and develop sporting spirit. We hope to increase uptake in physical activity for all groups of children and establish links with the local community to increase the number of children taking part in physical activity outside of the curriculum. We would aim to educate children about healthy choices and promote possibilities to maintain active healthy lifestyles. Finally, through sport we would hope to improve children’s focus, positive energy, perseverance and team working skills to enhance outcomes in all aspects of the curriculum, including reading, writing and maths. The Sports Premium will be spent so that: • All children benefit regardless of sporting ability • Children are given the opportunity to compete in competition with other schools • Some activities may be subsidised so that pupils do not miss out due to financial constraints e.g. swimming Allocation 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 £9640 £9640 £20,380
