1 Brainstorming activity:

make a list of sports in 2 minutes;

say what sport(s) you like and why.

2 Matching:

Students match a series of pictures and names of famous sports people.

3 Problem solving

The teacher presents some biography facts from the life of one of these five people, e.g.

* was born on an island;

* started practicing sports at the age of three;

• when he was under 12 he won his first tournament;

• Spanish tennis player.

• The students are given a set of useful words: born, live, start, champion, competition, record.

• The children work in groups of three or four write a short biography of a famous sportsperson using the given words.

• Each group has to guess who the other groups have written about. They can ask questions: e.g.

Did she/ he win a lot of medals? Where is he/she from? What sport does he/she do?

• Born May 2nd 1975;• Professional football

player;• Started at the age of 17;• Clubs he has played for:

Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, Milan;

• Twice FIFA world Player of the Year.
