DNA Extraction Place strawberry in baggie and close baggie

“mush” berry for about 2 min.

Add DNA extraction buffer

Close baggie, and “mush” berry again for 2 min.

DNA Extraction Set-up beaker with cheese cloth

Cut corner of baggie and pour strawberry solution into cheese cloth

Squeeze out solution into beaker, the waste/pulp is trapped in cheese cloth

The strawberry solution contains your DNA

DNA Extraction Fill the test tube 1/3rd to ½ with the strawberry solution.

Now very slowly using the pipet add ice cold ethanol down the side of the test tube. Add enough until the tube is about 3/4th filled and you should see a whitish material. You want two layers to form.

Now take the wooden stick and begin “spooling”. Place the stick in near the interface of ethanol and the strawberry solution and “twirl”.

DO NOT MIX ETHANOL WITH THE STRAWBERRY SOLUTION.

You have now isolated genomic DNA from strawberries!
