1 “A TASTE FOR LIFE” RESTAURANT PROPOSAL WHAT IS “A TASTE FOR LIFE”? A Taste for Life is an easy, highly visible fundraiser for AIDS Service Organizations. The event is successfully going into its 12 th year and has almost 20 communities participating across Canada. The concept is simple and the event is unique to HIV/AIDS work. A Taste for Life creates a great opportunity for media coverage, not only to create HIV/AIDS awareness, but also to promote local restaurants. This event has been known to raise significant financial resources for local communities. As a new community joining this event, the Peel HIV/AIDS Network looks forward to building strong community partnerships to create a successful event raising funds for continued HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and care while encouraging the community to dine at fantastic local restaurants that support community groups. HOW DOES “A TASTE FOR LIFE” WORK? On Wednesday April 28 th , 2010, the Peel Region community is invited to participate in A Taste for Life simply by dining at a Taste restaurant. Taste restaurants will donate 25% of their gross proceeds (food and alcohol) from the evening to support the HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and care in the Peel Region. Event promotion includes an ambitious media blitz involving posters, advertising and public service announcements. The event will be promoted through all major Peel Media and our community partners. Reminder cards will be kept in participating restaurants to give diners ample time to plan their evening. The Peel HIV/AIDS Network is well-known and respected in the community. We will promote the event through newsletters, volunteer networks, websites and other online social media tools. The event not only supports a great local cause, it is a good business proposition for participating restaurants and sponsors. Restaurants and sponsors are promoted throughout the campaign and restaurants are able to attract first time patrons. In our first year, we plan to host at a limited number of restaurants to meet our aim and expectation to fill all participating restaurants. WHO WILL BENEFIT? All proceeds from the event go to support programs and services provided by the Peel HIV/AIDS Network. The Peel HIV/AIDS Network, established in 1993, is the only organization in the Peel Region committed to serving people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to limit the spread of the virus through support, education, advocacy and volunteerism.
