Theatre Bay Area is one of the largest regional performing arts service organizations in North America. Our members—some 300 theatre companies and 2,000 individual artists—produce thousands of performances and engage more than a million arts patrons each year. The Bay Area is one of the most vibrant and distinctive theatre centers in the nation, renowned for the rich diversity of its artists and programming, and recognized as a hotbed of new play development. The region houses the third largest community of Actors’ Equity (union) actors and boasts more theatre companies per capita than any other metropolitan area in the U.S.

Theatre Bay Area is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to unite, strengthen, promote and advance the theatre community in the San Francisco Bay Area, working on behalf of our conviction that the performing arts are an essential public good, critical to a healthy and truly democratic society, and invaluable as a source of personal enrichment and growth.

On Monday, June 19, at Theatre Bay Area’s annual Spring Benefit, we will showcase—and build resources to support—the bold work of our region’s theatre community, the brave efforts to advance social justice through the arts, and the bright beacon of creativity and inclusivity our local theatre makers are bringing to all the people of the Bay Area. Some 200 of the Bay Area’s most outstanding theatre artists, leaders, and patrons will gather together at San Francisco’s unique Z Space to celebrate our region’s theatremakers, to raise funds for Theatre Bay Area’s vital services, and to make a clear statement about the importance of the arts as an essential public good. The evening will feature as our special guests the artistic directors of three of the Bay Area’s most prominent theatres: Carey Perloff of American Conservatory Theater, Tony Taccone of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Eric Ting of California Shakespeare Theatre in conversation with each other about the role for the arts as a builder of community in today’s fractured world. The evening’s activities will also include champagne, passed hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, and sneak peeks of some of the summer’s hottest shows. Theatre Bay Area’s Bold. Brave. Bright. benefit is the ideal opportunity to showcase your organization’s support of the Bay Area’s arts community at one of the most festive and theatrical events of the year!
