PLAYER OF THE ROUND
JUNIOR TEAM REPORTS & RESULTS
AROUND THE GROUNDS - ROUND NO.1
The 2014/15 cricket season is up and running with the Dragons fielding 22
teams and 292 players in the SSJCA & SSCA Competitions.
Round No.1 in the junior competition saw some close fought matches with our 14A side
winning by one run and our U/8 Green and our 14D teams both tying with Como-Jannali. At
the other end of the scale our 16A team scored a whopping 3 for 272 and the 16B-1 team
playing short both weeks came close to winning outright. The final results of the round had
the Dragon’s winning 6, tying 2, losing 6 and second place in the SSJCA Club Championship.
The best batting performance this week came from century makers Harry Tattersall (123)
and Andrew Merriman (108) who put on a 202 run second wicket partnership in their 16A
match against Sports. The best bowling performance came from Kurt Peychers from our
12D-1 with the impressive figures of 6 for 19 and the best all rounder effort was by Laythen
Carlisle from the 12D-2 team with 38 not out and 3 for 16. In the field impressive
performances by Charlie Te Hira (10C) with 3 run outs and Kade Payne (8-Green) 1 catch & 2
run outs with Dylan Croker (16A) 2 catches & 1 stumping doing a great job with the gloves.
Round No.1 in the senior competition produced 5 wins, 1 bye and 2 loses. Best team efforts
came from our B1-1 team who had a comprehensive 10 wickets outright victory, but not to
be out done our B2 snatched an unlikely outright win after trailing on the first innings. Best
individual performances this round came from Kevin Isaac (B1-1) 105, Kurt Brinkworth (A1)
6 for 20 and Dean McMillan (B2) all round effort of 71 not out and 4 for 51.
The SSJCA and the District Grade Cricket Club’s have been holding their representative trials
and the Club is proud to announce that we had 5 Green Shield and the 25 Shield &
Presidents players selected.

JUNIOR MATCH REPORTS
8 BLUE TEAM
Engadine 1: 4 for 68 beat St Patricks 1*: 4 for 58
What a great start to the season with a “cliff hanger” of a match to start. Corey took the reign as Captain this week and was unfortunate not to win the toss. As a result we were sent into the field. Balin and Ben kept wickets very well conceding only a few byes and bowled very well also. Lucas and Noah bowled on target with some pace as well. Koby got a wicket and, snagged a catch at mid-wicket and Corey fielded and bowled well as always. We fielded and bowled quite well overall and as a result, restricted St Pats to 4/50. On batting, Noah and Ben started out well with the bat getting us off to a good start with 10 solid runs, Lucas and Balin then came in to bat in our “middle order” and amassed 17 to get us within 23 runs with one pair to bat. Our last pair Corey and Koby came in and needed a top score of more than 23 if we were any hope of winning. They batted brilliantly….. scoring…. wait for it………. 41!!! We finished with a total of 4/68 to win the match. Man of the match this week was Koby. Well done…. Great work team. A great game to watch.
8 GREEN TEAM
Engadine 2*: 6 for 79 tied with Como Jannali 1: 8 for 79 on 1st Innings
A big welcome to cricket to all the boys in the 8 green side. An enthusiastic and talented
group made a strong impression in their first ever game of proper cricket. I was very
impressed to see them pick up the skills and the overall understanding of the game so
quickly.
Our player of the match went to Kade who, in the space of about 2 overs, managed 2 run
outs and a catch which was excellent to see. Elijah was also impressive as he smashed 6
boundaries on his way to 28. There were many other fantastic results from the boys who
managed to get a win in their first game. It was most pleasing to see how much the boys
have improved their bowling in the last 2 weeks. Little Zac was the most impressive. He was
struggling at training to get the ball down the other end then on Saturday, presumably after
8 Weetbix, managed to get the majority of his deliveries to bounce down the other end of
the pitch, which was an excellent improvement. A very promising start by these boys and
hopefully we will see more great results in the coming weeks.

10B TEAM
Engadine 1: 8/170 beat DLS Seagulls 2*: 9/74 & 2/62
Wow! What a great start to the season. We saw some great batting, fielding and bowling
from everyone. We won the toss and by the look of the wicket we decided to bowl first.
With the first 20 overs we got 4-50 Lachlan McKenzie took a run out, Aimee and Byron clean
bowled the next 2 and Torin took a great catch to finish the overs. Koby Lillis was great
behind the stumps.
Everyone contributed in the batting tally with Lachlan Mc retiring on 19, Kobey Freer and
Baylie made a quick 9 and Torin with 6. Lachlan Ritchie and Byron steadied the ship for the
rest of the first session, leaving us with figures of 3-80.
The next batting session Lachlan R retired on 25, with Byron, Thomas and Alexander all
adding to our total. Bianca made a great 17 and Koby L got 9. With all wickets gone we
brought back the retired batters. Lachlan R finished on great knock of 30 and Lachlan M on
24 leaving us on 8-170.
The bowling was a stand out with Koby L, Lachlan R, Torin and Baylie picking up a wicket
each and Kobey F taking 2. We bowled them out for 74 and put them back in to get out right
points but unfortunately, we ran out of time. This was our first game of traditional cricket
for all of the kids and they all played a great match, which will boost their confidence
heading into the next match.
Well done 10B’s. Let’s hope after a week off you are ready to do it all again!

12A TEAM
Gymea Bay 1*: 5/218 beat Engadine 1: 5/124
Gymea batted first scoring 218 runs for 5 wickets. Corey, Ryan and Brayden each picked up
wickets. Whilst Brayden and Josh were responsible for run outs. Lachlan and Luke were
economical with their bowling.
Engadine fell short scoring 124 but some good batting was on display. Harrison top scored
with 28 and was supported by Ryan (19), Brayden (17), Tyler (13) and Josh (12).
12B TEAM
St Patricks 2*: 6/83 beat Engadine 2: 10/56
12D-1 TEAM
Engadine 4 12D-2: 8/192 beat Engadine 3* 12D-1: 9/146
On our first outing for the season against the other Engadine side with many of our boys playing their first game ever, we were probably going to be up against it. We batted first on week one and were 3 down for 83 and they finished on 5 for 83. A great start. Day 2 and we were a few down on troupes (thanks to the other team for some fielders) we took to the field confident and full of enthusiasm. All the boys bowled well and put in a great effort in the field but the other guys piled on 190 odd and although the effort was there it was just too much for us to run down. Even though we didn't win there was some notable performances, Kurt Peychers with bowling figures of 6/19 Beau Wallace 30no with the bat Also, thanks to all that helped at the BBQ Mick
12D-2 TEAM
Engadine 4 12D-2: 8/192 beat Engadine 3* 12D-1: 9/146
The first game of the year found us playing another Engadine Dragons side, leaving one of our team members to say ("even if we lose we still win!!" - now that's club spirit) We lost the toss and found ourselves bowling in wet conditions which made life hard for us, especially because many of our players had either never played or only played mod cricket before.
![Page 11: SPONSORS The Engadine Dragons Cricket Club is proudly ...€¦ · performances by Charlie Te Hira (10C) with 3 run outs and Kade Payne (8-Green) 1 catch & 2 run outs with Dylan Croker](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051914/60062b15f4856a2ad749c0e2/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Highlights were Laythen taking the first wicket of the year as well as wickets to Jay and Kyle thanks to a brilliant catch by Daniel. Following this a great batting partnership by Daniel and Hamish got us even scores after week 1. Week 2 saw an early batting collapse only for Laythen and Hamish to put on a 80 run partnership with Hamish 62* and Laythen 38* taking us to a score which in the end was too hard to peg back. Jay and Taj picked up another wicket each and Laythen another two to have us win by 50 odd runs. Hamish performed brilliantly for his maiden 50 finishing with 62 not out and Laythen with 38 not out and 3/16 were standout players but each and every team member played their part towards a comprehensive victory. Congratulations also to those boys playing their first game of traditional cricket, it was a great way to start with a win. A great start to the year by all the boys and looking forward to another set of good performances in round 2. Steve
12D-2 Team
14A TEAM
Engadine 1*: 7/124 beat St Patricks 1: 10/123
In the first game of the season, Engadine batted first and after losing a few early wickets, HB
and Brad came together and put together a solid partnership with HB’s powerful hitting and
![Page 12: SPONSORS The Engadine Dragons Cricket Club is proudly ...€¦ · performances by Charlie Te Hira (10C) with 3 run outs and Kade Payne (8-Green) 1 catch & 2 run outs with Dylan Croker](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051914/60062b15f4856a2ad749c0e2/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Brad’s placement and quick running between the wickets. Rain brought a premature end to
week 1 and after a slow start to week 2 the boys finished 7-124 after 45 overs. HB (58) and
Brad (24) our top run scorers.
With only 9 Engadine players to start fielding, St Pats got off to a solid start until Josh and
Luke from the 12A’s came to fill in the gaps in the field. Two wickets each to Mitchell and
Patrick and one each to Will and Josh Smith brought Engadine back into the game and the
pressure was back on St Pats.
A few run outs followed and with 1 over to go Mitchell was brought back into bowl with St
Pats needing 4 runs to win. Excellent bowling brought the game down to the last ball of the
day with St Pats needing 2 to win. A great ball and then a calm run out by Nathan followed
to give Engadine a 1 run win.
Well Done Boys!
14C TEAM
St Patricks 2*: 8/161 beat Engadine 2: 126
14D TEAM
Engadine 3*: 7/66 drew with Como Jannali 1: 6/66
For the majority of the boys this was the first game of cricket and from a coaches point of
view you wouldn’t have picked it. Captain for the week Adam won the toss and with the
assistance of a few of the boys chose to bat first. Heath and Lachlan opened up and were
ready to face the new ball. Unfortunately Heath got bowled for 1 but it’s all experience
building and the few balls he faced looked good. Lachlan and Harrison put on a good little
partnership before Lachlan was caught for 3. Harrison and Sam put on the best partnership
of the innings and both looked solid in their first ever game. Harrison was retired for 18 runs
and Sammy made 9. Some good shots to boundary and both look to have a promising
season ahead of them. The boys lasted their 25 overs, which is an amazing effort first up to
make 66 runs.
Time to defend the total set, Aiden opened up with unheard figures of 3 over, 3 maidens 1
for 0 and as a bowler myself I can tell you they are amazing figures. Noah backed him up
with some great left hand bowling picking up figures of 1 for 8 off 3 overs. Adam, Dane and
Sam also picked up wickets with some great spells. Behind the stumps to start was Josh who
shows signs of becoming a very good keeper and there wasn’t too much that got past him.
Broady made some great stops in the field and almost got a run out after a quick pick up and
release. Blake, Broady, Harrison Lachlan and Josh all had two over’s with the ball and
showed that everyone in the team has potential to be a quality bowler.
A tense last over resulted in Como making 66 and the season starts with a draw. Not a bad
result and it shows that we can be competitive in this grade. The main thing is that everyone
had fun and everyone played a part in the team’s strong effort. Chris and I are please with
the start and will continue to train on a few areas such as running between the wickets. I

hope all the parents were entertained with the nail biter of a game, it’s good to see the
support on the sidelines.
I hope everyone has had a good couple of weeks off school and you’re all ready to get back
into it.

The boys worked hard at training and their efforts were clearly displayed with a comfortable
first up win over Sports.
Losing the toss and being asked to bat was a great result with Nick missing week one. A
great second wicket partnership of 202 by our two century makers Harry (123) and Andrew
(108) saw some fantastic shots being played by both boys and when their wickets fell trying
the clear long on Dylan K (13) and Jack (5) finished the innings of sensibly taking the team
score to 3 for 272 of 55 overs.

In reply Sports defended well finishing on 5 for 103 of their 55 overs in a rain reduced
match. As was expected our bowlers were a bit rusty with the odd no ball being bowled and
the line and length not quite there yet. One wicket apiece went to Adrian, Alex, Dylan,
Harry, Nick, but the best of the bowlers was Luke who bowled with great pace and had the
batsmen jumping around in their crease.
A big pat on the back to Dylan C who took on the role as wicket keeper after Matt got
graded by Bankstown. Dylan looked like he had been doing the job for years with two
catches and one stumping.
Welcome to our new recruit Louis who I’m sure will make a great contribution to the team.

An outright win was a great way to start the year. Made 224 with an Isaac ton, a Captain Duck, then two former Captains’s also getting Ducks. Just good batting all round. M Davis didn't Bowl his usual rubbish, Reggie Regan confirmed his status as the quickest in the comp with four big ones and Mick Daly was well troubled by the landscape. Shane Watson also chipped in with 3 wickets from his 13 overs. Finally the Bornholdt brothers won the game for us in the 2 innings with a Good partnership of 5 off 3 deliveries. Cheers Jason Mraz
