SPONSORING INVITATION
For the first time, the European Grassland Federation (EGF) and the Fodder Crops and Amenity Grasses
Section of EUCARPIA, the European Association for Research on Plant Breeding, will meet in a joint
Symposium. It will take place at ETH Zürich, Switzerland, from 24 to 27 June 2019.
On behalf of EGF and EUCARPIA, as well as ETH Zurich and Agroscope, a research station of the Swiss
Federal Office for Agriculture, we are happy and proud to invite you and your organisation to participate
in one of our exclusive Sponsor or Supporter programs of this unique event.
This leaflet provides you with essential information about our sponsoring opportunities and outlines the
cornerstones of the Joint Symposium. All sponsoring opportunities are summarized on page 4. On pages
8 and 9 details on sponsorship categories and supporter packages are listed. Supporter packages start at
CHF 500, qualified bronze, silver, gold and platinum sponsorship categories are from CHF 3000 to CHF
20000.
We are convinced that this opportunity will be of interest to you. Visibility in this European event with
global participation where experts in grassland science and grass and clover breeding meet to exchange
their ideas will no doubt benefit your business. We expect an audience of advanced students, young
researchers and leading scientists in academia, but also key persons of related industry such as
commercial plant breeding, seed production and trade, and further along the production chain of
ruminant animal products such as milk and meet. We are more than happy to be of assistance to you and
to provide you with further information should you require it.
Kind regards,
Beat Boller and Willy Kessler

SYMPOSIUM INFORMATION
Date: June 26 – 29, 2019
Symposium Venue: ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Attendee Profile: Plant scientists, grassland agronomists, plant breeders, molecular geneticists, officials of variety testing and the seed trade, academic staff and graduate students of grassland science, plant breeding and genetics
Expected Number of Attendees: 250-350
Venue
The symposium will take place at the main campus of ETH Zurich, located near the city centre of Zurich,
Switzerland. ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities for technology and natural sciences, with
its department for environmental systems sciences and its institute of agricultural sciences being ranked
among the top European research institutes in this research area. More than 19,000 students, including
4,000 PhD students, from more than 120 countries pursue their studies in a broad variety of subjects
ranging from informatics, engineering to natural sciences and medicine. The symposium will be held in
the beautiful classicistic main building of ETH Zurich, built by Gottfried Semper in the second half of the
19th century.
“Improving sown grasslands through breeding and management”
This international meeting will provide a unique opportunity to bring together scientists and stakeholders
working on all aspects of sown grassland research and fodder production. In plenary sessions, key topics
relevant to both societies will be presented and discussed by invited speakers and through offered oral
and poster presentations. Parallel sessions will provide an opportunity to discuss topics more specific to
EGF or EUCARPIA and to hold workshops to tackle current issues and problems.
Grassland-based ruminant production Systems often rely on sown grasslands, either regularly re-sown
permanent pastures and meadows or leys in a crop rotation. Productivity of these ecosystems depends
on the availability of high quality forage crop cultivars, the right association of these cultivar in mixtures
and on optimized management practices. The main aim of the EGF-EUCARPIA-Symposium-2019 is to bring
together scientists from both fields and thus enable fruitful discussions and interactions.
During the symposium, factors influencing selection of forage crop species particularly suited for multi-
species mixtures will be identified and new developments in the area of mixture development and
management will be discussed. Emphasis will be given to opportunities offered through new and novel
technologies such as high resolution phenotyping, genomic analyses and statistical modelling. Another
key aspect of the symposium will be the importance of plant-microbe interactions for successful and
sustainable forage production. Finally focus will be laid on the interaction between research, education
and application which is crucial for research results and novel technologies to be transferred into
grassland management and f orage production. The symposium will allow for intensive exchange of
