    History of the CollegeSpencerian College was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1892 by Enos Spencer,a nationally recognized business educator of his time. In the history book entitledBeginning of the Business School, author Charles G. Reigner stated:

    1. Career Services The Career Servicesstaff plays a major role in

    assisting our graduates in attaining successful

    employment. Highly qualied staff work tohelp match abilities, interests, and personalityto the job that will most likely bring personalsuccess and career fulllment.

    In both private and group counseling sessions,the Career Services staff carefully preparesthe graduate for his or her rst job interview.Much of the anxiety of the rst encounter witha prospective employer can be diminishedwith counseling the Career Services ofce

    provides, which includes interviewing skillsand techniques.

    In personal, one-on-one sessions, the graduatehas the opportunity to communicate specialpreferences, abilities, and/or needs. Once theseare established, the process of matching himor her to suitable job openings begins throughinitial interviews.

    Upon graduation, the Career Services Directorand staff are available to assist qualied

    graduates with career placement who havefullled the following requirements: met allnancial obligations to the school, formallyapplied for Career Services assistance,supplied the Career Services Director withthe required information, and are available tointerview with employers. Students who have

    not completed all the above requirements arenot eligible for Career Services.

    Graduates of all programs are eligible for

    unlimited lifetime job search assistance, whichis provided at any time with no additional cost.

    2. Graduate Employment Assistance Every graduate of Spencerian College is

    eligible to take advantage of our GraduateEmployment Assistance. The Career Servicesofce continually works with our graduates toensure successful employment opportunities.

    Once it is apparent that you are ready to

    THE CAMPUSAcademic FacilitiesThe new Spencerian College-Lexington campus, occupied in March 2005, provides studentswith fully equipped medical labs, industry-standard computer graphics equipment, computeraided design equipment, software, electrical/electronic diagnostic equipment, robots, current

    drafting equipment, design laboratories, networking laboratories, and a learning resourcecenter for training in the latest technologies.

    While the number of students per class varies, most classes and labs remain small forindividualized instruction, with an average class size of 20 or less and a maximum class sizeof 40 students.

    Administrative OfficesThe ofces of the Executive Director, Academic Dean, Associate Academic Dean, Director ofAdmissions, Director of Student Services, Director of Financial Planning, and Director of CareerServices are all located on the Spencerian College-Lexington campus.

    Student Lounge/Smoking PolicyThe Student Loungeis equipped with vending machines providing selections of snacks and softdrinks. The lounge is open to the students when the building is open. The entire SpencerianCollege campus building is a smoke-free facility. A smoking area is provided outside at the rearentrance of the student lounge.

    Learning Resource CenterTheLearning Resource Centercontains a collection of books, reference and design materials,and periodicals for classroom supplement and reading enjoyment. Computers with Internetaccess are also available for student use.

    As part of the Sullivan University System, Spencerian College students also have the SullivanUniversity Library & Learning Resource Center and its online databases available for theiruse. Spencerian College students can access the online databases via the Internet, and they mayobtain a Sullivan University Library card by showing their Spencerian College identicationcards at the Sullivan University-Lexington library services desk.

    Accommodations For Students With DisabilitiesSpencerian College recognizes and supports the standards set forth in Section 504 of theRehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which are designedto prevent discrimination against qualied individuals with disabilities. Disabilities are dened asmental and/or physical impairments which substantially limit one or more of a persons major lifeactivities, and which necessitate modications to the facilities, programs, or services of the college.Spencerian college is committed to making reasonable accommodations for qualifying studentsin accordance with law and to creating full accessibility to campus facilities. Spencerian Collegecannot, however, make accommodations that are unduly burdensome or that fundamentally alterthe nature of the colleges programs. In every case of documented disability, the college will makea good faith effort to determine an effective approach to providing academic accommodation.Qualifying students need to contact the Academic Dean at the beginning of their program to ensurethat they benet from the maximum assistance possible. Medical documentation of their disabilityand the requested accommodations must be presented in writing at that time.

    It is the responsibility of the student to inform the institution of any disabilities, physical and/or mental, which might in any way affect the students academic progress. The college willmake reasonable accommodation to meet the needs of any student with a disability. Physicalaccommodations currently provided include special parking facilities, ramped entrances, andaccessible water fountains and restroom facilities. A valid, state issued, handicapped parkingidentication, in addition to the required school parking permit, must be displayed by any vehicle

    parked in the handicapped parking areas.

    STUDENT SERVICES AND ACTIVITIESAcademic AdvisementStaff members are available to assist students with career planning from pre-admissionadvisement to the day of graduation. Admissions Ofcers are available to provide personalcareer information without charge or obligation, even before a prospective student ofcially

    decides to enroll.

    After enrollment, friendly and caring staff is available to assist all students with academicor personal situations. There are numerous advantages with this individual attention, whichis not usually found at larger institutions.

    PLATOPLATO Adult Education Solutions program provides instruction in most subject areas,including math and reading. This web-based courseware is accessible anytime, anywhere,allowing students to study when it works for them. Whether at home or in our LearningResource Center, individuals can work through the courseware at their own pace. Each

    concept is mastered before moving forward. PLATO is designed to satisfy a diversepopulation of adult learners with different goals in furthering academic or vocationaltraining, or refreshing skills to improve employment opportunities. This service providescomprehensive instruction in a way that ts their time restrictions.

    Student PortalThe student portal is a valuable tool offered to all Spencerian College students. On theportal, the student can view schedules, grades, attendance, e-mail faculty and other students,search the online library, and search employment links. Students can log on to:http://studentportal.spencerian.edu and enter a student username (the same one used for

    student e-mail) and password.

    Guaranteed Answer Suggestion BoxAdministrators and faculty members encourage students to use the Guaranteed AnswerSuggestion Box.

    This simple process provides an excellent communication opportunity that lets the schooladministrators respond to ideas, questions, or comments students may have. All signedsuggestions are guaranteed a personal reply from the appropriate school administrator.

    Newsletters

    A weekly newsletter is available for students, faculty, and staff. Topics in this publicationinclude, but are not limited to, student activities, student success stories, study tips, andresponses to items placed in the Guaranteed Answer Student Suggestion Box. Also providedin the newsletter is a listing of key administrators and their e-mail addresses.

    OrientationThe transition to college is an important time in each students life. Student orientationdays help set the stage for success at Spencerian College. Orientation takes place over thecourse of one or two days each quarter and offers assistance to incoming college studentsthrough personality analysis, nal scheduling, and special informational sessions.

    College BookstoreThe bookstore is conveniently located inside the student lounge and carries a complete selectionof textbooks, workbooks, supplies, and college apparel.

    Parking and TransportationParking is available on or near campus. Carpooling is encouraged and practiced by anumber of students. Parking permits must be purchased if you plan to park on campus. SeeSecurity or Campus Bookstore for purchase.

    Student Housing

    Spencerian College-Lexington assists out-of-town students (currently living at least 50miles away from campus) in locating furnished apartments for student housing needs. Toensure availability, arrangements for housing should be made well in advance. Completedetails on facilities, lease agreements, regulations, and tours of student housing can beobtained from the Admissions Ofce or Student Services.

    Students are not required to live in housing provided by the college. College-sponsoredhousing is limited to full-time students, under the age of 21, from outside the Lexingtonmetropolitan area. The college will assist students over 21 in locating housing from a largevariety of choices.

    Computer Usage PolicyInternet access is provided to Spencerian College students for research relevant to classes,coursework, and career paths. Students are expected to use the Internet for educational andresearch purposes. Computers in the Learning Resource Center are available on a walk-inbasis.

    ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGESpencerian College-Lexington continually strives to maintain a student body committed tohigher learning and career development. The college actively searches for those students whohave a strong desire to earn a college diploma, certicate, or associate degree within theirchosen eld.

    Application ProcedureComplete and return the enclosed reply card to arrange for an interview and college tour, orcall the Admissions ofce at (859) 223-9608 or (800) 456-3253. An Admissions Ofcer willschedule a time to visit with you and answer questions.

    You must submit a completed application, with the required fee, and meet all entrancerequirements to be considered for acceptance.

    There is no deadline for submitting the application for admission. However, those who applyrst are accepted rst. Some programs have limited space and/or have a selective admission

    process. Therefore, it is best to submit your application as early as possible, to be considered,before the date you anticipate starting your enrollment.

    The college individually interviews and advises each person seeking admission. Whenpossible, this interview takes place at the college, but interviews may be held in the home orhigh school of the applicant. Students from out-of-state may be contacted by phone and, insome cases, special visits may be arranged.

    Admission RequirementsIn order to be accepted for admission to Spencerian College-Lexington, the prospectivestudent must be a high school graduate or have a General Educational Development (GED)certicate. Evidence of this may be a transcript, a copy of the diploma, or a signed attestation

    by the student. Candidates are required to demonstrate the appropriate aptitude for theiranticipated area of study. This is accomplished through one of the following means:

    Successful completion of the Spencerian College Distance Education Assessment(SCDEA) or the Career Programs Assessment test (CPAt). Listed below are the

    minimal test scores required for admission:

    Scores good for 5 years.

    Applicants with a documented associate degree or higher are exempt and no entranceexam may be administered.

    Submission of the students ACT with a test score of at least 16 or an SAT score of at

    least 800 (1200 on revised test) will exempt the applicant from the entrance exam.

    A score of at least 40 on the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) isacceptable for admission to all programs except Radiologic Technology, MedicalLaboratory Technician, and Biomedical Engineering Technology.

    The Executive Director reserves the authority to admit a candidate who does notobtain the listed scores if he or she believes extenuating circumstances have adverselyaffected the test results.

    Any student with a documented disability (including learning disabilities) must

    provide documentation upon admission. In addition, such persons should meet with theAcademic Dean in order to verify ability to complete program requirements.

    No entrance exam may be administered to a given individual more than twice in a 90-

    day period.Applicants who have attended any other post-secondary institution(s) must submit copiesof all academic and nancial aid transcripts. Applicants are responsible for obtaining allnecessary documentation and/or taking any test by a date that assures the results are reportedto the college by the required deadlines.

    Distance Education AdmissionsMany Spencerian College classes are offered online via the Internet or in a blended formatwhere students complete a portion of the course online and a portion on campus or at approvedsites/facilities. Entrance and graduation requirements for distance education classes and on-campus classes are the same.

    If a student enrolled in an online program moves to a different state or to a location too farfrom their original location to get to campus or their original sponsoring facility for requiredlabs and practicum experiences, this could jeopardize their ability to complete the program.

    All students are recommended to complete Spencerian Colleges online non-creditintroductory course, Student Quick Start, a tutorial explaining the features of the LearningManagement System before beginning their rst distance education class. Students GPAs andentrance exam scores are evaluated.

    Distance education students must have access to a PC (minimum 56k Modem) with an Internetconnection. Spencerian College utilizes ANGEL Learning, Inc. software, a fully integratede-learning platform that allows the College to rapidly create, deliver, and measure interactivelearning over the Internet.

    Students must purchase any software that may be required for a specic course. All studentassignments must be submitted by using Microsoft Word 2007 or newer, Excel and Access.There is an additional per credit hour charge for distance education classes (see SupplementA). A students acceptance into a class is contingent upon the students eligibility to takethe class. The Registrar, Dean of Academics and the Online Coordinator will verify that

    the student has met the prerequisites and course requirements. Students enrolled in onlineprograms receive rst priority for online classes. Other students are accepted on a spaceavailable basis.

    Students who are accepted into a class will receive a conrmation of registration thatincludesthe following:

    Student logon and password for the course

    Information on how to immediately access the introductory course, Student QuickStart, a tutorial explaining the features of the Learning Management System

    Date the course(s) will be available to access (Monday of Week 1)

    Jump Start ProgramThe Jump Start Program provides high school seniors the opportunity to attend classes atSpencerian College without tuition costs. (Fees, books, and supplies are the responsibility ofthe student.) This program is designed to provide high school seniors the opportunity to have a

    postsecondary educational experience regardless of their eventual college or career choice.

    The Jump Start Program is available to high school seniors during the Colleges winter

    and or/ spring quarters.

    Students are limited to no more than two regular classes per quarter.

    The student must be in satisfactory academic standing at their high school as veried

    by their high school counselor.

    The student must pass the Colleges entrance examination and all other entrance

    requirements at the same level required of other applicants in order to be accepted intothe same program.

    Admission to the College for Specialized ProgramsAll medical candidates, once accepted into their programs, are subject to a criminal

    background check and a drug screen.

    The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) is required for BiomedicalEngineering Technology candidates. A minimum composite score of 50 on the HOBET is

    Massage Therapy

    Applicants should be aware that any person with a criminal record at the felony level may be

    denied a license to practice in Kentucky and other states or localities that regulate massagetherapy. They may also be prohibited from employment in healthcare settings and this may

    affect placement for the clinical component of the massage therapy program. Such convictionsor pending legal matters must be discussed with the program director at orientation or as soonas an arrest occurs. Failure to reveal felony convictions or arrest may lead to dismissal from the

    program.

    Homeschooled ApplicantsHomeschooled applicants who have completed secondary school education requirements in acertied program recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education (e.g. Christian Home

    Educators of Kentucky or Kentucky Home Education Association) must have their certicateof completion or a high school diploma provided by the local public school district. Otherhomeschooled applicants will be required to obtain their GED.

    High School Transitions Program

    The Spencerian College Transitions Program provides high school seniors the opportunityto attend classes without tuition cost (fees, books, and supplies are the responsibility of thestudent). This program is designed to provide the opportunity to have a post-secondary

    educational experience regardless of their eventual college or career choice.

    The program is available to high school seniors during the winter and/or spring

    quarters. Students are limited to no more than two regular classes per quarter. Students must be in satisfactory academic standing at their high school as veried via

    their high school counselor.

    Students must pass the colleges entrance exam and all other entrance requirements. Their high school counselor must approve of their participation in the program.

    Financial ability must be demonstrated by completion of a nancial certicate, including

    signatures of the sponsor and a bank ofcial. Persons receiving a scholarship may demonstratenancial ability by sending an original or certied copy of the award letter, including the

    amount of the scholarship or the expenses it covers. The college may require an advancedeposit of funds to cover one years tuition and living expenses of all non-immigrantinternational students from a particular country before issuance of the I-20 Form.

    All applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to take the Test of English asa Foreign Language (TOEFL), offered by the Educational Testing Service. It is the applicants

    responsibility to obtain the necessary information and application forms and to take the testby a date that assures the results are reported to the college by the required deadlines. Only

    TOEFL scores of 173 (computer-based), 500 (paper-based), or 61 (Internet-based) will beconsidered for admission to any program in the college.

    There are instances where TOEFL scores may not be required, such as for:

    Re-Entering RequirementsA student wishing to re-enter Spencerian College-Lexington after a leave of absence must seethe registrar. In order for the student to be successful, a registrar will review all academic andnancial aid records and conduct a satisfactory academic progress analysis in order to make

    a determination regarding the students qualication for re-entry. Approval of the departmentchair is required for some programs. Re-entry in specic programs may result in being placed

    at the bottom of the clinical rotation list.
