Theme: “A Made Up Mind

in a COVID-19 World”

So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the

things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the

things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s

where the action is. See things from his perspective. Colossians 3:1-4 The Message Bible

This resurrection Sunday, April 12, 2020 the sermon invites believers and non-believers to focus

our minds not on the impact of sin or COVID-19 in our lives, but to look at the hard fact of

Jesus’ resurrection to develop a made up mind that our current and future fortunes are

determined not by the people or things of this world. Come worship with us virtually this Easter

Sunday to give Him who orders our steps the praise and glory.

The Lord is Risen! He is Risen indeed! Hallelujah!

First Reading: Acts 10:34–43 (The disciples are witnesses to the risen Lord.)

Epistle Reading: Colossians 3:1–4 (Our lives are hidden with Christ in God.)

Holy Gospel: Matthew 28:1–10 (Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.)

Good Friday is here but Easter is on the way!

Today, April 10, 2020 we pause to say thank you Jesus for dying on a “old rugged” cross where our Savior uttered the words, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) The awful actions of Good Friday, opened the door for the resurrection to come. Without Good Friday there could be no Easter, because of Easter we rejoice and give thanks for our daily hope and eternal salvation. In this agonizing Coronavirus moment Good Friday reminds us of two things, that sin, sickness and death do not have the last word and “this too shall pass.” This good news spiritually empowers us to keep moving forward in spite of obstacles, challenges, heartaches and despair…in other words my or your Good Friday is here but our Easter is on the way!” Pastor Wiggins

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

1st Corinthians 11:26 NIV Several members have asked if it would be possible for the sacrament of Holy Communion to be served on Easter Sunday. As a part of our Resurrection Day celebration this Sunday, April 12, 2020 we will offer drive-in Holy Communion from 10:00am to 11:00am. Guidelines for drive-in Holy Communion are shown below:

• All parishioners are asked to park in the back-parking lot and remain in your vehicles unless you have an emergency. This will allow us to honor the social distancing guidelines of COVID-19.

• The sacramental elements will be consecrated by the pastor at 10:15am from the Fellowship Hall back door stoop.

• The pastor will be outfitted with clergy robe, mask and gloves.

• After consecration of elements, parishioners will be directed to drive their cars single file toward the church exit driveway. Each vehicle will stop next to the pastor, roll down window to receive the wafer and disposable communion cup. Communion cups should be kept by parishioners and disposed upon arrival at home.

• Parishioners will also have the opportunity to give their tithes and offering in the offering plate next to the pastor after the reception of the sacrament.

• After reception of Holy Communion each vehicle should continue down the exit driveway for departure.

• The sacrament will be offered until 11:00am.

I give thanks to God that we will be able to provide this holy meal for those who are comfortable coming out during the pandemic. Social distancing is established to keep us safe physically. Holy Communion is provided to keep us safe and secure spiritually, through the forgiveness of our sins which breaks the bonds of Satan and sin. Read the words of Matthew 26:26-28 that Jesus spoke to his disciples in the past, that still are true for us, his disciple today, “Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

COVID-19 and Our Faith Response

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 NIV

As we travel this unfamiliar and unknown COVID-19 road, what should be our Christian action or reaction to what is going on? Is it okay for us to find ourselves uncertain and unsure about what is unfolding right before us? Should we at time feel like life is out of control, hopeless and over? Yes, yes it is okay for us to feel any of the aforementioned and more. Read Psalm 13:1-6 and you will encounter the Psalmist who is engage in what is called “lamenting” his situation. To lament is a biblical way of expressing great anguish, loss, hurt, or trouble. Note how at the end of Psalm 13:5 the writer comes full circle saying; “But (God) I trust in your unfailing love…” Let us then share with the Lord all that we may feel or experience, but let us also ask Him to help us “Be still,” and know that He is still God regardless of our life pandemic or storm.
