PRESIDENT’S WORD
Since its establishment in 2010, SPIE student chapter at ANDC has emerged as
one of the integral parts of ANDC. The chapter adheres to its ideology of “The
Easing and Promotion of photonics and optics”. The chapter allows the bustling
minds of student to expand their horizon and look forward to science as fun and
interesting, this has been evident from the activities conducted over the past years
and the kits developed by students for demonstration.
The year 2015-16 kicked off with council elections and induction of new
members. The interest among the students about research at undergraduate level,
led this chapter to whopping 71 members. The newly inducted members were
trained by their seniors about the chapter and its activities. Throughout the year
the chapter was always in motion by involving in some or the other activities. The
students learnt a great deal from it. Mr. Vivek Trivedi attended the SPIE Optics
and Photonics 2015 at San Diego and shared his experience with the chapter,
talking from the wide scope of optics as a career to the experience of being
involved in such a huge conference. I attended SPIE FOCUS Armenia (OPTICS
2015) held in Armenia where I got an exposure to the world of optics and the
opportunities that lie within this field. The chapter showcased its activities at
Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the College, Rajatotsav , where the efforts of the
student members and the faculty advisor were praised by all. The demonstrations
witnessed a huge crowd and a lot of positive feedbacks.
In conclusion, I can proudly say that the credit for the success of the chapter over
the past year goes to student members and the faculty advisor Dr. Amit Garg for
their never ending support in enriching the chapter with their hard work and
efforts.
