Spiderman Opening Sequence Analysis

Page 2: Spiderman

This film was directed by Sam Raimi and was released on 4th May 2007. This sequence includes the names of different actors and the directors and producers. This is used to show some of the very famous people featuring in the movie and attracts the audience because they instantly recognise the names and the faces of the actors. This is also put at the beginning of the film because this is the bit of the film everyone watches, and the writing is tied in with spider webs which connects to the film. Images of Spider-Man are also included throughout the writing to connote the main character to the audience.

The film's genre is made apparent through the use of music and colours. The colours in the opening sequence are dark and blue, which ties in with the genre because action movies are usually very dark and mysterious. The writing font is very bold and square which also relates to the genre because the action genre is very adventurous. The music that accompanies the opening sequence is relative to the genre because it is very loud and dramatic, building to the intense feeling of the film, because the film is about a super hero who is very strong. They also include images of the main character Spider-Man which is related to the genre because the character is a super hero. The genre is established by using spider webs and writing that appears and disappears. This suggests that the genre of the film is an action/thriller because there is a lot going on in the scene and the writings move about excitedly.

When planning my own opening sequence I will try to include the writing and the names of characters into the action going on in the scene. This is very effective because it keeps the viewer entertained because the writing isn't just staying still on the screen. I will also try to include images of the main character or characters because it helps the viewers to understand what the narrative is about.

The first glimpse we see of the character is a camera effect that makes the camera appear to pan up behind the characters and then over the top of the characters head. This represents the character as being mysterious because the viewer does not see their face. It highlights the face that the character is in some sort of suit, influencing the viewer to believe that maybe the main character is super human. Other than a shot of the characters hand we don't really see anymore, leaving the viewers to wonder who that person was with the suit on. The shot of the hand connotes that their is something relating to the hand that is of high importance in this film.
