June 3, 2016   Dear Third Grade Parents:   This year, we will be writing in journals. This is a great way for students to express                                 themselves and develop writing skills. Journals are usually not corrected. The idea is                         for them to write, not to feel they are being evaluated.   Each student will have the opportunity (over the summer) to personalize their journal                         notebook (1 regular composition NB) by creating a collage, on the front and back                           covers. The collage can contain pictures, drawings, images you can print from the                         computer, words that represent them and anything that they really like.   Once the collage is created, I ask you to please cover the journal again with clear                               contact paper. Please bring your journal ready on August 9th, during Student                       Orientation Day.   Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this activity.    Cordially,   Third Grade Teachers    

Journal Notebook: (1) Composition notebook  as stated in our third grade Supplies List 

 

 Dear Parents and Guardians: 

  The third grade teachers are requesting that you color­code your child's notebooks in                         the binding part of the notebook and cover them with clear contact paper. Some ways                             you can color­code the notebooks is by using colored electrical tape, colored dots or                           regular strips of construction paper.  (See the diagram below).   The colors are as follows: 

   READING NOTEBOOK – RED    

SPELLING/GRAMMAR NOTEBOOK – ORANGE  

 SPANISH NOTEBOOK – YELLOW  

      INQUIRY (SCIENCE / SOCIAL STUDIES) NOTEBOOK ­ BLUE   

(2) MATH NOTEBOOK – PURPLE (Graph Notebook 7mm)                            WITH MARGINS (SUNS OR MEAD BRAND)  

                           (Both NBs must be brought on the first day.

June 8th, 2016 Dear Parents and Future Third Grade Students: Congratulations, you have completed 2nd grade successfully and will be soon entering a new adventure in 3rd grade. This packet is filled with many different engaging and fun math activities. Over the summer vacation, I strongly encourage you to set aside some time for your child to work on these skills to ensure continued progress in the skills learned in second grade. You should not try to complete the packet in one day. Instead, we recommend that you work through the packet in small sessions week to week. You may find problems that are challenging, nevertheless make your best attempt to complete them. Adults should not solve the problems for you, but can gently remind you of any forgotten or "rusty" skills. Those who finish the packet, please hand in no later than August 12th, 2016. This is not a mandatory summer assignment, but it would greatly benefit your child. Thank you in advance for your continued math practice over the summer months! Your 2nd Grade Teachers
