Dinosaur DataAs we venture out into the clearing we will see many species of dinosaur. This section serves as an identification chart in which

you can record data on the various species

As we finish up our tour of the Jurassic watering hole we pack up out things careful not to leave anything behind. Suddenly the peaceful grazing of the herbivores is interrupted the sheer calls of the Camptosaurs. Their loud high pitch calls cut through the humid Jurassic air. We turn around to see a large Allosaurus charging the clearing hungry for fresh meat. You make a quick decision and make a run for ________________________________________. (you may look at the diagram provided to decide where to run. Note diagram is not to scale)What is your speed? Speed=distance/time and your distance from yesterday was 18.3 m your average speed:______________Option 1 Rock hide away

You decide to bolt for the rocks in hopes of finding a spot to hid within them. The rocks are 45 meters from your location and your legs carry you as fast as they can. The heard of Dryosaurs are small but fast and they dart to the rocks as well. They are much closer to the jaws of the hungry predator, about 90 meters, but their swift legs allow them to run at 11.1 meters per second. The Allosaurs give case you can feel each of its thunderous steps as it speeds towards you. How long did it take for you to reach the rocks?Variables equation

Who made it to the rocks first?

Did you make it to the rocks before the Allosaurus?

If no: Game overIf yes: You reach the rocks alongside the Dryosaurs. Dust flies as the bird like feet of the little dinosaurs slams the rocks. You struggle up the slopes as a rock the size of your head slips out from under the foot of one of the Dryosaurs. Roll to see if you dodge it. Roll: If you rolled a 1,2,3,4 or 6 you are safe. If you rolled a 5 the rock slams into and you tumble but regain your footing and keep climbing. More rock to loosened from all the feet pounding it and the very stone supporting drops. You grasp for the jagged rock around you desperate for something to stop your fall. Roll: If you roll 1 or 3 you fail to cling to the rock. Roll a 2,4,5, or 6 and you are safe. If at any time you roll 2,3,4 or 6: A Dryosaur slips on the slick rock and tumbles to the base of the rocks. You watch as the dazed and confused dinosaur stands up. The hot breath of the Allosaurus embraces the Dryosaur like the warm hug of death.

Option 2: Safety with body guards You watch as the Camptosaurs rush past the Stegosaurs positioning

themselves safely behind the large bulk tanks. You decide to risk it and do the same. You run as fast as you can over the 45 meters to get to the Stegosaurs. You are unaccompanied by any other dinosaurs and are easily singled out amongst your classmates. The Allosaurus lunges towards you, eager to wrap its jaws around you, its distance to close, 125 meters. You race forward and watch as the Stegosaurs swing their tails back and forth.

Did you make it to the Stegosaurs first?

If No: Game overIf yes: RollIf you roll 1: you watch as the tail swings towards you. You panic and are unable to react as the thagomizer is imbedded into your body. You fall to the Jurassic earth. Game overIf you roll 2,3,4,5 or 6: The tail of the first Stegosaur swings towards you and you duck feeling the wind from the weapon wash over you. You get up and turn to see the Allosaurus pacing gingerly back and forth in front of the stegosaurs. You are still the heard however and have yet reached the safety of the Camptosaurs. Another tail swings towards you. RollIf you rolled a 2: You feel the sharp pain and the 75 cm thagomizer brings an end to your life adventure. Game over If you rolled 1,3,4,5 or 6: you dive forward as you feel the underside of the tail graze the back of your neck. You pack back gets caught by the thagomizer and you are whip around in the most terrifying Jurassic carnival ride ever. as momentum shifts you slip from the straps of the pack and tumble to the ground, as a group of spooked Camptosaurs rush from the scene of your less then spectacular landing.

If during this exchange you rolled a sum of 10 or higher and survive both events: You rest on the ground from your near-death experiences, you are in awe watching the prehistoric beasts collide. The feel the warm breeze cool you and the rustling of the Jurassic ferns on the forest’s edge behind you. You lived through one of the most amazing scenarios of any 8yj grader’s life. Heck probably more exciting than most people 162 million years are having. Happy to be alive you look towards the Camptosaurs, who strangely are all facing the forest alert. Suddenly you hear a shrill hooting from within the vegetation. Your body freezes and a sinking feel washes over you. you somehow recognize the sound. Your mind rushes to find a match. Just as you realize what it might be you feel hot breath on the back of your neck. As you are lifted from the ground you see a flash of color and the last thing you see are the jaws of a second Dilophosaur. Game over

Option 3: The Diplodocus You panic, the time machine has no real safety in your opinion. You

cannot climb rocks and even if you could who knows if you could find a place to hide. The thagomizers on the Stegosaurs hold too much risk. The only other option is the towering diplodocus in the distance. They are big, surely a predator would not dare venture near. You must make a dash of 100 meters to make it there and if you do so there is no way you would not be safe. The Allosaurus is over twice as far away with 226 meters to cover, even if it is faster it’s not likely to close that distance. How long did it take for you to get to the Diplodocus? How long did it take the Allosaurus to get to the Diplodocus? Variables equation

Substitution Complete answer

Did you get the Diplodocus first?

If No: The Allosaurus make a cut across the land and closes the distance more quickly then you had anticipated. Its jaws snap shut catching your pack and the carnivore throws you into the air. You fall to the grown your broken body unable to move. You see the flash of teeth and the stench of the dinosaur’s hot breath, the last perception of the world you will have. If Yes (call your teacher over for the next part)You rush past the first of the towering beasts, it’s thick legs shake the earth with each step you turn to see the Allosaur carefully approach. The Diplodocus snaps its long tail back and forth with a loud crack, muck like a whip.

If the Allosaurus Rolls 2,3,4,5, or 6: The tail of the Diplodocus swings violently but the Allosaurus crouches to avoid the assault and lounges forward.

If the Allosaurus Rolls 1: The tail of the Diplodocus swings violently and with a loud snap lands a hit. The Jaw of the Allosarus is broken and the meat eater falls to the ground unconscious.

If you Roll 2,3,4,5 or 6: As the tail of the Diplodocus swings violently, you watch in amazement at the power of the animal. The creature is unaware of your presence and steps forward. You fall back and narrowly avoid being crushed.

If you roll a 1: As the tail of the Diplodocus swings violently, you watch in amazement at the power of the animal. The creature is unaware of

your presence and steps forward. You fall backward and the weight of the Sauropod crushes you. Game over

The Allosaurus moves quickly towards you. you get up and run tripping and falling into the foot print left by one of the diplodocus.

If you roll 3,4,5 or 6: A Diplodocus steps over you, its body shielding you unassumingly. You look up and see nothing but the sheer mass of the dinosaur safe for now.

If you roll 1 or 2: A Diplodocus steps towards you the massive body shields you from the reach of the Allosaurus. Large thunderous feet rain down all round you until finally you meet your end buried deep within the sunken foot print of a sauropod. Game Over

If the Allosaurus Rolls 1 or a 2: The carnivore finds itself in the middle of the heard of titanic plant eaters. It swerves and bobs to avoid feet and tails, any of which could end it. Suddenly it finds itself pinned between two Diplodocus the mass of each pressing on either side of it. You hear the power roar of pain from the Allosaur, followed the collapse of its body on the ground beside you.

You survive and get back on your feet. The Allosaurus circles around the sauropods. It jerks forward and you trip over the toes of the diplodocus slamming into the leg of the giant.

If you roll 4,5 or 6: The Diplodocus steps forward, its back leg carrying you with it. You slip off it onto the ground, but you are lucky the foot breaks the earth in front you. the Allosaurus steps back as the sauropod lifts its massive weight and shifts it to its back legs….

If you roll 1,2 or 3: The Diplodocus steps forward, its back leg carrying you with it. You slip off it onto the ground, and find you are in the path of the foot’s destination. The full weight of the beast is put on you as the Diplodocus raises its front legs into the air. Your screams are muffled but the mud and heel of the great animal. The Allosaurus steps back as the sauropod lifts its massive weight and shifts it to its back legs….

…..with a slight shift the Diplodocus falls, it’s front feet firmly planted on the Allosaur’s side. The meat eater collapse to the ground letting out a shriek of pain. The Diplodocus pushes forward and the rib cage of the Allosaur buckles under the pressure. The carnivore lays motionless planted into the earth. The king of the Jurassic is dead.

Option 4: The Time Machine Home

You look off across the clearing and see the time machine. Its far but there are no dinosaurs near it warm inviting glow. You remember Mr. Collier telling you that the time machine would not let anything not loaded into its DNA recognition system through so you know it is safe. If you can make it there nothing can follow you back to the present. You are 90 meters from the machine. The Allosaurus is 170 meters.

Did you make it home safely?

If No: You are so close the time machine you can almost feel it warm light. You look back to see how close the Allosaurus is. Turning back to look shifts your momentum and you hear Mr. Callard’s voice from PE ring in your ears. “Looking back slows you down!”. It was much worse, you stumble and fall. You tumble and come to a stop. You begin to get back on your feet only to

be pushed back down by the theropod’s foot. Pinned to the ground you are consumed by the beast. If yes: You run towards the light and dive forward. The warm fractals dance around you and time its self begins to slow almost to a stop. The light becomes blinding and you a thrown through 163 million years of time in a matter of seconds. You are spinning and snap shots of time flash past. You fall to a hard floor. The room still feels as though it is spinning, but the hard tile floor and the familiar smell tell you, that you made it back to present day, back to the science classroom you thought you would never see again. It’s a comforting feeling. You gut suddenly wrenches and you expel all of its contests onto the floor and pass out, home safe, one of the few who made it.
