d, z, etc. Sounds made with the tongue touching

the front teeth are called dental.

Pharynx It is a tube which is being to just above

the larynx. 7cm long in women, 8cm In men. At the top end it is divided into two, One part goes to back of the mouth, Other goes to nasal cavity.

Lips

The upper lip and lower lip help to produce bilabial sounds /p, b, m/.

They can spread, press together brought into contact with teeth or rounded.

Lip to teeth contact are called labiodental.

Alveolar Ridge

• Hard ridge behind upper front teeth.

• It is between the roof of the mouth and the upper teeth.

Hard palatal Also Known as the roof of the mouth. The sound produce by this speech organ

are called palatal voices.

Velum The lose hanging and of the soft palate. It is the part that allows air to pass

Nasal Cavity Some sounds are produce by nasal

cavity and are called nasal sounds. m, n, ng
