What is Deploy?

Specops Deploy is a deployment software that simplifies the installation of operating systems and applications in your Microsoft Active Directory environment.

Specops Deploy extends the functionality of Group Policy and can be used to target any number of computer objects within Active Directory.

Specops Deploy can:

• Save user state during installation

• Manage user local settings

• Capture/deploy operating system images

• Remotely manage and monitor multi-site deployments.

• Manage the System Center Endpoint Protection client.

• Deploy Applications – also over vpn.

• Realtime feedback OS/APP.

Key Components – Deploy/OS

• Image Server: Maintains operating system images and drivers used in each Deployment Group and replicates them to the associated Deployment Servers.

• Administration Tools: Used to configure the central aspect of the solution and enable the creation of new Deployment Servers.

• Deployment Server(s): Replies to client requests for PXE booting and Client Side Extension.

• Specops Log Viewer: Provides searchable log files, in various formats, in real-time.

• The Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).

• Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) will be installed on this server.

• This will be the Hub for Distributed File System Replication (DFS-R) to replicate the images.

• The Windows Deployment Services (WDS) role will be installed onto this server.

• Specops PXE Filter which replies to client requests for PXE booting and Client Side Extension.

• The Deployment Server(s) will be the DFS-R target for the Image Server.

Key Components – Deploy/App

• Specops Deploy Server: The Specops Deploy Server processes real-time feedback from the clients, and incoming IFP messages and places them in the Feedback database.

• Administration Tools: Used to configure the central aspect of the solution. The Administration Tools can be used to edit Specops Deploy / App settings directly in the GPMC or the Control Center.

• Specops Deploy Client Side Extension: Reads the Specops related deployment information from group policy.
