Exchange students can find all necessary and pertinent information to verify their admissibility at UQAM according to their desired program. PROGRAM SELECTION

Some programs of studies at UQAM are not open to exchange students. Be certain to choose a curriculum that is part of the list of academic programs open to exchange students (Programmes d’études ouverts aux étudiants en échange) or your application will be rejected. The list of open programs is available on the BCI website.

The candidate must identify only one program of studies from a list of programs open to exchange students. This list can be found on the BCI website.

The candidate must then select courses from within the identified program. An application containing a course selection that does not conform to the program will be rejected.

Candidates must continue their studies at their home institution in a discipline related to their program at UQAM.

Certain programs have limited enrolment for exchange students. Please take note of the list of these programs in the present document.

Certain programs are unable to accept students for the winter semester only. Other programs can only accept candidates for the fall semester or for the entire academic year only. Be sure to consider this when choosing your program at UQAM.

Students who are accepted at UQAM must respect the calendar and arrive in Montreal before the semester begins. Please note that the Fall semester will begin on September 6th, 2016 and that the Winter semester will start on January 9th, 2017.

Certain Master’s programs require 16 years of schooling before participating in an exchange program with UQAM. The list of these programs can be found at the end of this document. Please note that engineering students must have obtained their diploma of engineering prior to their arrival at UQAM in order to be able to take graduate courses (master level). No admission based on a BAC+3 will be possible, unless the studies are validated by a diploma recognized by the National Ministry of Education.

COURSE SELECTION

Candidates must use the course selection form (formulaire de choix de cours) which can be found on the BCI website.

The student must select courses from only one academic program and at only one level (undergraduate or post-graduate):

The exchange student can only select courses from the academic program he or she has applied to.

All courses identified as ateliers (workshops), stages (internships) or séminaires d’intégration (seminars) or projet de mémoire (thesis project) are not offered to exchange students.

Information on curriculum, course descriptors and class schedules are available online :

It is possible to search by program (using the program code) and then find the list of courses in the identified program of studies.

Scheduling information for fall courses will be available in January and for winter courses in July.

Course selection must respect the student exchange contract which stipulates that candidates must be registered full-time;

The number of courses and/or credits required to be considered a full-time student is:

→ Undergraduate programs (certificates or Bachelor’s) : a minimum 12 credits, generally four courses of three credits;

→ Graduate programs (Master’s, DESS or Doctorate): a minimum of 6 credits, generally two courses of three credits ;

→ It is strongly recommended to select a few additional courses from the designated program in case of a scheduling conflict, a course not being offered during the chosen semester, or other.

Each course selected must contain the following information: the course code, number , title and credits :

→ Example : LIT1430, Questions de méthode en études littéraires, 3 crédits

For your information, the University estimates each course credit to correspond to forty-five hours of academic activities, including evaluations.

INTERNSHIPS AND RESEARCH SUPERVISION IMPORTANT - Off-campus internships are not available for exchange students, and all research supervision must be assumed by the student’s home institution. SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Undergraduate Programs Certificat en anglais (Certificate in English) (4729)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,40 (13/20). Candidates must enclose with their application form: a letter from an English teacher attesting their level of English or TOEFL test result.

Only candidates with Intermediate 1 level are admissible to the program (B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – CECR).

All candidates must take a mandatory Placement Test from the École de langues de UQAM prior to register to the courses. Candidates must consent to respect the results of the test and to take the courses accordingly.

Fees of 60 $ CAD apply for the Placement Test (English). Admission for one semester only – Fall or Winter.

Certificat en Études féministes (Certificate in Feminist studies) (4014)

Admission for one semester only – Fall or Winter. Certificat en Géographie internationale (Certificate in International Geography) (4033)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20) Admission for one semester only – Fall or Winter.

Certificat en Gérontologie sociale (Certificate in Social Gerontology) (4402)

Admission for one semester only – Fall or Winter.

Certificat en Langues et culture d’Asie (Certificate in Asian Languages and Culture) (4621) In order to study on a full-time basis, the student will need to register to both Chinese

and Japanese courses. All candidates will be evaluated by the Program at the École de langues de l’UQAM before

admission. Admission for one semester only – Fall or Winter.

Certificat de Perfectionnement en français langue seconde (Certificate in Improvement of French as a Second Language) (4650)

All candidates must take a mandatory Placement Test online soon after they apply. Fees of 60 $ CAD will apply for the Placement Test.

training (if applicable) and relevant professional experience. Provide a letter demonstrating their interest to study at the École supérieure de

théâtre. Baccalauréat en Arts visuels et médiatiques (Bachelor of Visual and Media Arts) (7324)

Candidates must: Provide a visual portfolio of recent work including a maximum of 20 images and an

electronic description of the work (title, date, medium, format [height X width X depth]);

Provide images in jpg formats, dimensions: 1280 x 1024, and at a resolution of 72 dpi;

Provide animation, video and installation projects in QuickTime or .AVI formats. Make sure they last no longer than 3 minutes.

Baccalauréat en Biochimie (Bachelor of Biochemistry) (7008)

Baccalauréat en Biologie en apprentissage par problèmes (Bachelor of Biology in Problem-based Learning) (7013)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,0 (10/20). Program open for the full academic year 2016-2017 only. No admission for a single semester. Once the student is admitted, the final course selection will have to be established with

the approval of the Director of the program at UQAM. Candidates must be 3rd year students so they can register in courses from one of the

three specializations (ecology, toxicology or biotechnology) offered in the program’s third year.

Be registered in a similar program and/or possess relevant dance experience ; Present a video recording of a solo performance (maximum 3 minutes) and

excerpts from a technique class (maximum 20 minutes) on a DVD that is either Mac- or PC-compatible.

Students will be admitted for the Fall semester or for the full academic year 2016-2017 only. No admission for the Winter semester only.

There are only 2 openings.

Baccalauréat en Design de l’environnement (Bachelor of Environmental Design) (7322) The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,20 (12/20). There are only 5 openings. Student’s applications must include a visual portfolio of their personal work including

drawings, photos, or layouts of urban design, architecture, industrial design, etc. CD-ROMs will not be accepted.

Baccalauréat en Design graphique (Bachelor of Graphic Design) (7779)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,40 (13/20). Limited enrolment. Student applications must include: a visual portfolio of their personal work including a maximum of 20 elements of

EUT1012, EUT1014, EUT1015, EUT1017. EUT5013, EUT5014, EUT5015. The courses EUT5013, EUT5014, EUT5015 may be open to 3rd year students, an

authorization will be required from the Director of the program at UQAM. Students will be admitted for one semester only – Fall or Winter.

DESS en Architecture moderne et patrimoine (Graduate Diploma in Modern and Heritage Architecture) (3031)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20). Candidates must have completed a university program in a discipline or field of studies

related to design (Environmental Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Urban Design), in Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Construction Engineering, Art History, History, or Communications.

Applications should include: A two-page letter tracing the candidates’ academic and/or professional history and

explaining their specific interest in modern and heritage architecture; A personal resume.

The following courses are not open to exchange students : DES7002 and DES7003. Students will be admitted for the full academic year 2016-2017 only – No admission for

a single semester. DESS en Bio-informatique (Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics) (3005)

Candidates must have completed a minimum of 16 years of schooling before the exchange.

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,20 (12/20). Students will be admitted for the full academic year 2016-2017 or for the Fall semester

only – No admission for the Winter semester.

DESS en Design d’équipements de transport (Graduate Diploma in Transportation Equipment Design) (3566)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20). Candidates must have completed a university program in a discipline or field of studies

related to product conception and/or participation in research and development groups for product design.

Candidates must master drawing as a means of expression, know how to abstract concepts and be familiar with the use of machine tools in the fabrication of prototypes.

Candidates must provide a portfolio and a letter explaining their interest in the area of Transportation Design.

The course DES7570 is not offered to exchange students.

DESS en Design d’événements (Graduate Diploma in Event Design) (3997) The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20). Candidates must have completed a university program in a discipline or field of studies

related to design creation (Environmental Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design), in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Visual Arts, Theatre or in a related discipline.

Applications should include: a letter of no more than 500 words tracing the candidates’ academic and/or

professional history and explaining their specific interest in Event Design, the problems and the types of projects that may be seen in this program;

a personal résumé; a portfolio for candidates who have been in a program of creation (Project Design,

Architecture, Design, Art etc.). The following courses are not offered to exchange students: DES7045 and DES7029. Students will be admitted for the full academic year 2016-2017 only – No admission for

a single semester.

DESS en Éducation somatique (Graduate Diploma in Somatic Education) (3273) The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20). Candidates must demonstrate a relevant experience in dance or movement and have

completed a university program in dance or movement or have relevant experience in an artistic field such as Theatre, Visual Arts, Music, Art History, Literature, or another discipline approved by the department such as Physical Education, Somatic Practice, Psychology, Communication, Kinanthropology, Psychomotor Education.

The following course is not offered to exchange students: DAN7571. DESS en Évaluation, intervention et soutien psychologiques auprès des personnes avec une déficience intellectuelle (Graduate Diploma in Assessment, Intervention and Psychological Support to People with Intellectual Disabilities) (3003)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,20 (12/20). Candidates must be enrolled in a Psychology program or in any of the following related

programs: Social Work, Education, Sexology at their home institution. Students will be admitted for one semester only, Fall or Winter. Some courses that

require prerequisites may not be open to students for the Winter semester.

DESS en Finance (Graduate Diploma in Finance) (3842) Candidates must have successfully completed 16 years of schooling before the

exchange. The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,40 (13/20).

DESS en Génie logiciel (Graduate Diploma in Software Engineering) (1622) Candidates must have successfully completed 16 years of schooling before the

DESS en gestion des risques majeurs (Graduate Diploma in Major Risk Management) (3012)

the full academic year. DESS en Instruments financiers dérivés (Graduate Diploma in Derivative Financial Instruments) (3280)

Candidates must have successfully completed 16 years of schooling before the exchange.

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,20 (12/20). DESS en Intervention comportementale auprès des personnes avec un trouble envahissant du développement (TED) (Graduate Diploma in Behavioral Intervention for Individuals with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD)) (3061)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,20 (12/20). Candidates must be enrolled in a Psychology program or in any of the following related. Students will be admitted for only one semester, either Fall or Winter. Some courses

that require prerequisites may not be open to students for the Winter semester. DESS en intervention ergonomique (Graduate Diploma in Ergonomic Intervention) (1851)

Candidates must have successfully completed 16 years of schooling before the exchange.

The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20). Students will be admitted for the full academic year 2016-2017 only – No admission for

one semester only. DESS en météorologie (Graduate Diploma in Meteorology) (1845)

Candidates must have successfully completed 16 years of schooling before the exchange.

The overall cumulative GPA required: 3,20 (12/20). Candidates must have successfully completed training in Physics and Mathematics.

Knowledge of Scientific Computing will be considered an asset. Students will be admitted for the Fall semester only or the full academic year 2016-

2017 – No admission for the Winter semester only.

a related program. Students will be admitted for the Fall semester only or the full academic year. No

admission for the Winter semester only.

Maîtrise en Arts visuels et médiatiques, concentration création (Master’s in Visual and Media Arts, Creation) (3574)

The overall cumulative GPA required: 2,80 (11/20). Applicants must provide : a personal résumé describing applicant’s relevant experience in visual arts and
