Ag Systems Management Scholarship is awarded to a freshman and a sophomore or junior pursuing a career in agriculture systems management (farm & ranch management, power & machinery, or precision agriculture) who has demonstrated academic proficiency of a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or greater and who shows leadership potential.

Stan & Hanorah Alseth Men’s Basketball PSM Scholarship is awarded to new incoming freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need with preference given to members of the U of M Crookston men’s basketball team.

Larry & Diane Altringer Scholarship is awarded to a management student with an average GPA and a demonstrated need for academic assistance.

Altru Health Systems Scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in a health related field with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

American Indian Education (Salt Lands) Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate Minnesota residents of Native American descent. The selection of a recipient is based on high school academic achievement and/or ACT composite scores. Academic success and campus involvement area also considered. Funding is from the sale proceeds of salt spring land (act of 1988 state legislature).

Alton & Otilda Anderson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 by their daughter, Phyllis Anderson Solee, and is awarded to a female student majoring in agriculture with preference given to an agronomy major. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all coursework attempted. Academic performance, scholastic aptitude, evidence of outstanding leadership, creativity, and community involvement will be considered in the selection process.

The University of Minnesota Crookston is grateful to the many donors who provide specialty scholarships to more than 300 students. These scholarships are awarded to U of M Crookston students based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership, service, and legacy. There are numerous scholarships available to both new students and returning students.

Marvin & Diane Bachmeier Athletic Scholarship was created to provide an athletic scholarship for basketball.

F. T. Bear Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or returning second-year student from the Hallock, Lancaster, Stephen-Argyle, Minn., and Drayton, N.D. area. Priority consideration will be given to students who demonstrate need.

Bruce Beresford Memorial Scholarship was established in 1993 by Bruce Beresford in memory of his wife, Barbara, and upon his death, continued by his daughter, Mary (Beresford) Pulkrabek. The scholarship is awarded to freshman students majoring in horticulture.

Samuel & Norma Bigger Endowment supports the student internship program. Preference given to students in plant industries management: 1) horticulture, 2) agronomy, 3) other.

Bremer Bank Athletic Scholarship is awarded to first-year students in the top 20 percent of their graduating class with a minimum of 3.0 GPA and must demonstrate involvement in high school, community, or organizational activities. Applicant must submit a personal statement on chosen academic field along with two letters of recommendation.

Ken Broin Scholarship was established to provide financial support to full-time undergraduate students attending the U of M Crookston who demonstrate financial need, academic merit, and who are from Otter Tail County, Minn., with preference for students from Fergus Falls, Minn. Preference will be given to students studying in business related areas such as, but not limited to, accounting, finance, management, agricultural management, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

Hilmer & Hildegard Brost Scholarship is awarded to students from northwestern Minnesota with a 3.0 GPA majoring in business management studies or agriculture business studies. Must have good academic performance, scholastic aptitude, evidence of outstanding

leadership, creativity, and community involvement. Preference to Crookston area students but available to other students if no Crookston area students are available.

Dr. Philip & Ethel Buckley Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in natural resources or a related field. Students must have completed one semester at the U of M Crookston with a GPA of 2.75 or higher and must demonstrate leadership qualities in campus and community activities.

Dr. Charles H. Casey & Barbara J. Muesing Scholarship is awarded based on need and merit with a minimum GPA of 3.0 to students from the following counties in Minnesota: Polk, Red Lake, Pennington, Marshall, Kittson, Roseau, Norman, Mahnomen, Clearwater, Beltrami, Becker, and Clay. Preference given to those studying in the area of agriculture, business, or healthcare.

Cenex Harvest States (CHS) University Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in an agriculture-related program and must be a United States citizen or legal resident. The award will not be based on financial need and the recipients are able to receive the award multiple times. Preference will be given to students demonstrating an interest in agricultural-based cooperatives (completed a cooperatives course or course covering cooperative business structure or internship or aspiration to work in an agricultural-based cooperative). Recipient must demonstrate academic ability through his or her course study and exhibits leadership qualities through the university, community, and/or industry.

Centrol of Twin Valley Scholarship is awarded to a recipient from Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota and must be a junior majoring in agronomy or precision agriculture at the U of M Crookston. The award is based on need.

Darlene Charron Scholarship is awarded to at least a second year hospitality student who has completed an internship and maintained a 2.0 GPA.

Cecile M. & George Conati Scholarship, sponsored and selected by the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Church, is awarded to a student who is a registered member, confirmed in the Roman Catholic faith, and actively involved in the parish.

Crookston Chamber Agassiz Bowl Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding freshman student athlete majoring in an agricultural program from a local community.

Crookston Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is awarded to a first-year student from Crookston High School in the top 20 percent of their class or a minimum 3.0 GPA and who demonstrates involvement in school, organizational, and community activities.

Crookston Jobs Scholarship is awarded to students in the upper half of their graduating class who demonstrate leadership and community involvement. Recipient must be majoring in a business department program with preference given to a Crookston area student.

Crookston Kiwanis Club Scholarship is awarded to a Crookston student who graduated in the top 50 percent of their class. Must demonstrate leadership in school, community, or church related activities.

Crookston National Bank Athletic Scholarship Is awarded to a freshman or returning student athlete who demonstrates satisfactory progress towards graduation.

Crookston Rotary/Walt Keller Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship is awarded to a local northwest Minnesota region student majoring in criminal justice who graduated in the upper half of their class and have demonstrated leadership in school and community.

Crookston VFW Post 1902 Scholarship was established in 1996 with preference given to veterans or a direct descendant of a veteran.

Ethel Curry American Indian Scholarship is initially given to a freshman, but returning students may reapply each year. Awarded to students who are of least one-fourth American Indian and who present written documentation of tribal enrollment and blood quantum. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years and recipients must be full-time students in good academic standing.

Allan & Judy Dragseth Scholarship is awarded to agriculture students in the upper half of their graduating class who demonstrate leadership and community involvement.

East Polk County Fair PSM Scholarship was established to provide a scholarship for an incoming student from Polk County, with preference given to students from the 16 townships of East Polk County. Student must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0. Returning students may reapply if they received the scholarship their first year at UMC.

Victor Edman P.K.M. Scholarship is awarded to a first-year student or advanced-year student from the counties of Polk, Kittson, or Marshall (PKM), who is a son or daughter of a PKM member.

Jack & Audrey Eickhof Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a career in equine science related fields with demonstrated academic proficiency and leadership potential. Freshman student required GPA of 2.0, transfer student GPA of 2.5 in a minimum of 24 credits.

Federation of Women’s Clubs of Crookston Scholarship is awarded to those students in the upper half of their graduating class who demonstrate leadership and community involvement with preference given to a Crookston area female student.

Clara & Eilert Fehr Family Scholarship is awarded to entering freshman or advanced-year students pursuing a degree in education who maintain a 3.0 GPA. Recipients must demonstrate high academic potential, strong leadership, and community involvement.

Walter & Elinor Fehr Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in agronomy with an emphasis in agronomic science. Recipients must demonstrate strong academic competence required of a potential graduate student while having the ambition and interest in attending graduate school along with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Brandon Freberg Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends. Award is made to those students in the upper half of their graduating class who demonstrate community involvement with preference given to a student enrolled in agriculture.

George French Endowed Music Scholarship is awarded to a new or returning student with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. The award is based on merit, not financial need. Student must be enrolled in at least one credit of music during the year the scholarship is to be awarded and have demonstrated a record of required attendance at all rehearsals and

performing opportunities at UMC as prescribed by the class syllabus, with preference to applicants who have a record of showing leadership and going above and beyond what is required to earn a grade in music.

Arvin Gorden Scholarship is awarded to a needy student with potential who is in good academic standing.

Steve Habstritt Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in agricultural related studies with a preference in agronomy, agricultural business, or agricultural systems management. Preference to a student involved in extracurricular activities. Recipient must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above. One will be awarded to a new student and one to a returning student.

Harlene Hagen Endowed PSM Scholarship is awarded to a first-year student attending the University of Minnesota Crookston with preference to a student with past 4-H participation.

Gerald Hoefer Memorial Scholarship was established in 1991 by the Northwest Stockmen’s Association, the Hoefer family, and friends as a lasting tribute to Gerald’s commitment to the dairy industry. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student studying animal agriculture, who has a 2.0 or above average high school GPA. Preference given to first-year students from the following counties: Kittson, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, Clearwater, Mahnomen, and Norman.

David & Irene Hoff PSM Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student; however, the scholarship may be renewable and re-awarded to an initial recipient providing demonstration of satisfactory progress toward graduation with preference given to a student pursuing an agriculture-related career. Selection will be primarily competitive but needs may be considered. Recipients of this scholarship are selected by the UMC Agriculture Department Scholarship committee.

Carl & Lorraine Hord Scholarship was established in 1987. The scholar-ship is awarded to exemplary students graduating from a high school in Kittson County who are pursuing a degree at the U of M Crookston or any agriculture-related school. Recipients are selected on academic ac-complishments and leadership potential. High school rank, GPA, and ACT

scores will also be considered. Preference will be given to those who are current recipients of the scholarship fund. Financial need can be used in final selection process of equal merit candidacy.

Hugo’s Valley Markets Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior studying business management at the U of M Crookston.

Earl Hvidsten Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by his wife, Gloria Hvidsten. Preference given to graduates of Stephen High School.

International Student ½ Tuition Waiver Scholarship is awarded to an international student studying here on an F-1 visa. Need to have completed one full semester and enrolled in the second semester with a total equivalent to at least 24 credits from U of M Crookston. If a transfer student, the student will have needed to be here for one full semester. Must possess leadership skills, be involved with international activities on campus, and be an active U of M Crookston student overall. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Herbert & Anna Johnston Scholarship is awarded to a high school graduate from Warren-Alvarado-Oslo school district and may be renewable for up to four years if maintain SAP standards. If the scholarship is not awarded for two years to a W-A-O graduate, graduates from Crookston High School may apply and receive for one year.

Mary Louise Jorgenson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an advanced-year student (at least three semesters at the U of M Crookston) with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipient must demonstrate campus or community involvement and not be a Presidential Scholarship recipient.

Karn Athletic Scholarship was established to provide baseball scholarships at the U of M Crookston.

KATZ Memorial Scholarship, to be eligible for consideration, must be a new incoming high school senior, or a returning student who has already received this award and is renewing it. An applicant must be a member of an underrepresented ethnic or racial minority* group who have a superior high school record and have demonstrated strong leadership. Preference given to: *U.S. citizens/permanent residents identified as African-American, American Indian, or Hispanic origin.

Don Keith Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a degree in agriculture at UMC who are actively participating in student government or extracurricular activities. Student must demonstrate an interest in a career in agriculture, show promise of developing leadership ability, and have a minimum of 2.0 GPA.

Francis Klein-Fortie Scholarship was established in 1999 by her 1946 NWSA classmates. Recipient must be a direct descendant of a Northwest School of Agriculture alumni and have a 2.5 high school GPA or 2.5 postsecondary GPA.

LeClair Athletic Scholarship is awarded to a women’s basketball player from the state of Minnesota.

Herschel Lysaker Endowed PSM Scholarship is awarded to new full-time undergraduate students at the Crookston campus. Recipients must have a 2.5 GPA and plan to participate in intercollegiate athletics.

MAELC Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or returning student majoring in agriculture education. An online application to MAELC is required.

Marshall County Crop Improvement Association Scholarship is awarded to full-time Marshall County students enrolled in a program with emphasis in agronomy who graduated from high school in the top 50 percent of his/her class, or an advanced-year college student who has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

MDU Resources Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore student who is from a community that is served by MDU Resources Group companies. Emphasis given to students majoring in business, economics, land management, engineering, computer science, computer technology, energy and related disciplines. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA and satisfactory academic progress.

William & Ruth Menzhuber Memorial Endowed PSM Scholarship is awarded to a freshman or transfer student who shows high academic achievement. Plus factors given to students from northwest Minnesota who have demonstrated high academic achievement.

Charles T. Meyer Scholarship was established in 1998 by his wife, Rita Meyer, in memory of his support to education. Memorial scholarship to reward, encourage, motivate students, full-time or part-time, who have satisfactorily completed one year at the U of M Crookston and who have become involved in campus or community activities.

Mid-State Chapter of the Minnesota Society of CPAs Scholarship is awarded to an accounting major. Preference is given to students whose home is within the Mid-State Chapter region. Major cities in the region include Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, Fergus Falls, Alexandria, Brainerd, Thief River Falls, Hutchinson, Litchfield.

Midwest Dairy Association Scholarship is awarded to a first-year student from Minnesota meeting academic and leadership requirements who is pursuing a degree in ag business, ag sales and marketing, food science, or another dairy related degree.

Wallace & Hanna Miller Scholarship was established in 1991. Recipient must be a direct descendent of a Northwest School of Agriculture alumni. First year students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and advanced year full-time students a minimum 3.0 GPA.

MINN-DAK Growers Association Scholarship is awarded to Minnesota or North Dakota residents majoring in agriculture. Students must be in their third year and need should be a factor.

Minnesota Approved Seed Conditioners and Marketing Association Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman. Another award is given to a sophomore student majoring in seed conditioning and technology (agriculture). Must have completed 40 credits at the U of M Crookston with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Roger Moe Scholarship was established in 1993 by Senator Moe. The scholarship will be awarded to students who reside in the Minnesota counties of Clearwater, Norman, Mahnomen, Clay, Polk, Becker, and Beltrami, and who graduated in the top 50 percent of their graduating class.

Nakken Endowed PSM Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student who is majoring in a field in the Math, Science, and Technology Department.

Ernest & Edna Newhouse Scholarship for undergraduate student scholarships based on the following criteria: must have maintained an overall 3.0 GPA, preference given to students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA in their major, must be a full-time student (minimum of 12 credits), students may apply for additional years of support, and no student may receive more than four years of support. The amount of the scholarship is flexible and dependent on availability of funds and based on need as determined from the financial aid office.

Mitch Lien Nielsen Memorial Scholarship II is awarded based on financial need or merit with merit being determined with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. The scholarship is intended to award annually to two deserving students and award amount may be adjusted as needed by donor or college. Preference given to students majoring in business.

Mitch Lien Nielsen PSM Scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students attending the Crookston campus who show financial need and academic promise. Plus factor to Gonvick-Gully-Trail students in the Clearbrook-Gonvick High School and to students from the Euclid area in the Crookston High School or other area students. The scholarship was established by Les and June Nielsen in memory of their son, Mitch Lien Nielsen.

Norby’s Work Perks Starving Student Scholarship was established to provide need-based scholarships with a preference to students who are junior or senior student athletes studying business and/or entrepreneurship at the U of M Crookston with a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Northwest Grain Endowed Scholarship is awarded to an agriculture student that lives within approximately a 30-mile radius of St. Hilaire, Minn.

Northwest School of Agriculture Heritage Scholarship was established in 1989. This scholarship is awarded to direct descendants of Northwest School of Agriculture alumni. Recipients who demonstrate high academic progress may renew this scholarship.

Roger & Gail Odegaard Scholarship is awarded to a student who has been a life-long resident of northwest Minnesota, including the 15 county areas. Must have been in 4-H or FFA for four years and shown leadership and growth in any project area. Student must have been a full-time

undergraduate student for two years with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Must show significant growth and leadership in chosen field with attending the U of M Crookston. If no suitable candidate has applied, the search can be broadened to the entire state of Minnesota.

Scott Oliver Athletic Scholarship is awarded to full-time outstanding student athletes at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

Mark Olsonawski Athletic Scholarship is awarded to a U of M Crookston football player in any position who maintains a 2.5 GPA. Preference given to students from northwest Minnesota (Hwy 9 to Hwy 59) and northeast North Dakota (from Hwy 2 to Hwy 1). Recipient must be respected both on and off the football field.

Online Learning Scholarship was established to support a full-time or part-time degree seeking online student. Eligible applicants include those that are enrolled as a degree seeking student in one of UMC’s online degrees. Applicants must provide resume and a personal statement answering the following questions: why did you choose the University of Minnesota Crookston, what will be your biggest challenge while continuing your education, and what do you hope to achieve with your online degree.

Norman Pankratz Memorial Conservation Scholarship is awarded to a student who has a deep commitment to conservation of natural resources, high moral and ethical standards, academic excellence in natural resource conservation courses (at least 2.5 cumulative GPA), and leadership. Must have completed at least two semesters, be returning for at least one semester, and intends to graduate from the University of Minnesota Crookston.

William Paradise Memorial Scholarship was established as a memorial by family and friends to honor a U of M Crookston faculty member who taught accounting for many years.

Edwin A. Pearson Scholarship was established in 1993 by Edwin Pearson, a NWSA alumnus, in memory of his wife, Dorothy. The scholarship is awarded to a direct descendant of a Northwest School of Agriculture alumni who is in the top 50 percent of their high school graduating class.

Freda L. Pedersen Memorial Horticulture Scholarship was established to provide support for one scholarship recipient and one internship recipient. According to the donor’s wish, when possible, the amounts awarded are to be divided approximately 55% to the internship and 45% to the scholarship. Selection criteria for scholarship recipients: undergraduate student, attending the U of M Crookston, studying horticulture and/or environmental landscaping, and having an interest in sustainable gardening. Selection criteria for internship recipients: undergraduate students, attending the U of M Crookston, and participating in a summer internship to assist the grounds department in maintaining the sustainable gardens on campus. If the sustainable gardens cease to exist on campus, the money will be awarded under the scholarship criteria.

Albert Peterson Scholarship, preference is given to students who reside in northwest Minnesota, have good citizenship skills and academic performance, with evidence of outstanding leadership, creativity, and community involvement. Recipients should demonstrate financial need.

Anton & Johanna Peterson PSM Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student with preference given to students from northwest Minnesota who have demonstrated financial need.

George & Clarence Peterson PSM Scholarship is given to full-time undergraduate students enrolling at Crookston. To be awarded to an incoming or freshman transfer student. Plus factor given to students from northwest Minnesota with demonstrated financial need.

Harold & the late Alma Peterson Scholarship is awarded to a first-year agriculture student. A personal statement on why the student is going into his/her academic field must be submitted along with two letters of recommendation.

Harris A. Peterson Scholarship is awarded to need-based upperclassmen at sophomore, junior, or senior level, majoring in agriculture. Must be a North Dakota or Minnesota resident.

Leroy Peterson Scholarship is awarded to a high school graduate from the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo school district. Recipients must maintain a C or above average GPA. High school graduates from high schools in Polk County, Minn., can also be considered.

S. Wilbur Peterson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 and is awarded to a deserving upper-division agricultural student who is a resident from northwestern Minnesota. The recipient must demonstrate academic progress and participate in extra-curricular activities.

Gilmore Restad Scholarship is a need-based scholarship awarded to a student pursing a degree relating to livestock education.

Lyle Roberts Memorial Scholarship was established by the estate of Edna Gudvangen in memory of her son, Lyle. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving freshman or transfer student.

Robert G. Robinson Scholarship was established in 1994. Eligible students for the scholarship must be new or transfer students majoring in plant industries management, agronomy, or soils. Must be a non-smoking citizen of the United States.

Rock Eagle Air Spray Scholarship was established in 1996, in memory of Mitch Rock. The scholarship is awarded to a second-year student studying ag aviation at the U of M Crookston who has a GPA between 2.0 to 3.0.

Del Roelofs Athletic Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a full-time outstanding student athlete.

RYLA Scholarship is awarded to a student who had participated at University of Minnesota Crookston Camp RYLA.

Stanley D. Sahlstrom Scholarship was created in 1986 by the University of Minnesota Crookston’s founding provost as his perpetual commitment to education. The scholarship is awarded to first year students with a 3.0 GPA, high academic potential, strong leadership, and community involvement.

Chancellor Emeritus Don & Mary Beth Sargeant Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who is in the top 10 percent of their graduating class and has an ACT score of 25 and above. Must demonstrate leadership and community involvement.

Russell O. & Inez Sather Memorial Scholarship was established in 1986 and is awarded to advanced year students (must have completed

24 credits by the date of the application) with a GPA of 3.0. Applicants must be a high school graduate of Polk, Norman, Red Lake, Pennington, Marshall, Mahnomen, Clearwater, Roseau, or Kittson counties and must submit an essay, two letters of recommendation, and a personal resume. Recipients of this scholarship are selected by the Sather Scholarship Committee.

June Shaver Athletic Scholarship is awarded to full-time outstanding women’s basketball and volleyball players.

June Shaver Endowed Baseball Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student participating on the baseball team. Must be in good standing with the University’s athletic program and meet University and NCAA eligibility requirements.

June Shaver Equestrian Athletic Scholarship is awarded to students who are part of the equestrian team, have a minimum 2.75 GPA, and who are involved with community and University activities. Selection of the award is the responsibility of the athletic director, compliance director, and head equestrian coach.

Jim Sims Endowed Athletic Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding football player who has maintained satisfactory academic standing.

Arnie Skeie Scholarship is awarded to a student demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit and strong academic ability, with preference to a student with financial need.

Small Grains Institute Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in agronomy, agricultural business, or other agricultural majors related to crop consulting, crop adivising, and/or crop production resarch. Students must provide a short essay stating their professional employment and/or career goals as they apply to crop consulting, advising, and/or research. Preference to students pursuing careers in crop consulting, advising, and/or research.

Lil Snyder Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a health related program. Applicants must have completed 24 semester credits and maintained a 3.0 GPA. A letter of application indicating future plans in the health related field of study and two letters of

recommendation are required. Recipients are selected by the Lil Snyder Scholarship Selection Committee.

Carl Spong Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students studying animal science and production. The award is made to honor the memory of Carl Spong who served northwest Minnesota as a field man for the Central Livestock Association.

E. C. “Doc” Stelter Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of the late area veterinarian to students from rural areas of Minnesota who seek further education in the area of animal agriculture. Must write an essay on “Producers’ Responsibilities in Animal Health/Welfare.”

Wayne & Joanne Swanson Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in communication, computer software technology, math, science, or business, based on merit, with preference given to a student who will add diversity to the campus. Preference will also be given to students who display leadership characteristics, Crookston High School graduates, and graduates from schools of 60 or less graduates, and who are in the top quartile of their graduating class.

Bill & Mary Tyrrell Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female student athlete maintaining satisfactory progress to graduate.

Esther Tyrrell Scholarship is awarded to a male or female student athlete.

Felix & Marion Ugland-Mallinger PSM Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student who shows academic promise and have demonstrated inclination for self-motivation and credible future endeavors.

UMC Alumni Association Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior who has shown leadership and involvement on campus and who has a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to a direct descendant of U of M Crookston alumni who attended for a minimum of one year.

UMC Aspire Scholarship is awarded to students who are at least 25 years of age who have resumed formal education after a five-year break.

16 Specialty Scholarships

The scholarship may be applied for at any point in the student’s academic program and requires at least half-time status.

UMC College in the High School/PSEO Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who have participated in UMC College in the High School program or the UMC PSEO program.

UMC Employee Family Awards are available to full-time students (12 credits or more) who are immediate family members of University of Minnesota Crookston employees. Students must maintain satisfactory progress.

UMC Founding Provost Heritage Scholarship awards are divided equally between men’s and women’s scholarships.

UMC Horticulture Club Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding returning student majoring in horticulture.

UMC ROTC Subsidy Scholarship. Students who are recipients of an Air force ROTC Scholarship for three or four years are eligible, or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) graduates selected for Professional Officer Course Early Release Program (POCERP).

UMC Student Success General Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who shows financial need.

UMC Teambackers Endowed PSM Scholarship provides payments to full-time undergraduate students at the U of M Crookston. To be awarded to a new incoming student who participates in intercollegiate athletics with selection the responsibility of the athletic department.

UMC Women’s Association Scholarship is awarded to applicants with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated involvement in school and community activities, plus factors given to women. An essay on why the student is going into their academic field and two letters of recommendation are also required. The scholarship is designated in honor of Mil Sahlstrom.

John & Jan Vallager Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in business management. Recipients must demonstrate leadership and community involvement.

Dr. Frank Veden Endowed Scholarship was established in 1995 and is awarded to a student pursuing a career in the health care field and desires to live and utilize their training in a rural setting. The recipient must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA with preference given to students with a GPA in the 2.0 to 3.0 range.

Ward Family Scholarship is awarded to a new third-year transfer student who is majoring in production agriculture. If no third-year transfers in this major, transfer students in other majors will be considered. Must demonstrate high academic potential, strong leadership skills, and defined community involvement.

Andrew & Elmer Wardeberg Memorial Scholarship is awarded to direct descendants of NWSA alumni who have maintained satisfactory academic standing.

West Polk County Crop Improvement Scholarship was established in 1999 with preference given to West Polk County students. Preference given to a needy freshman student majoring in seed conditioning and technology, crop science, or crop production.

Ed Widseth Athletic Scholarship was established in 1995 to recognize those characteristics epitomized by Ed Widseth—outstanding athletic, leadership, and academic achievements. The scholarship is awarded to student athletes at the U of M Crookston who demonstrate academic and athletic excellence.

Nels T. Wold American Legion Scholarship was established in 1996 and is awarded to new students, first year or advanced who are veterans or a veteran descendant, that reside in the Crookston trade area.

Zak Scholarship for American Indian Students is awarded to an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe. The student must have completed at least one year of college, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.
