    Did you know that New Years is the only holiday that celebrates the

    passage o time?

    Perhaps thats why, as the nal seconds o this year tick away,

    we become introspective. Inevitably, that introspection turns to

    thoughts o sel-improvement and the annual ritual o making New

    Years Resolutions.

    New Years Resolutions oer the rst o many important tools or

    remaking ourselves, and in this special report, Im going to show both

    how and why you need to set and keep your resolutions.

    Beore we do that, let me rst provide you with a brie historical

    perspective.

    The History o New Years Resolutions

    The tradition o the New Years Resolutions goes all the way back to

    153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king o early Rome was placed at the head o

    the calendar.

    The Romans named the rst month o the year ater Janus, the god o

    beginnings and the guardian o doors and entrances. Janus became

    the ancient symbol or resolutions and many Romans looked or

    orgiveness rom their enemies and also exchanged gits beore the

    beginning o each year.

    The Romans began a tradition o exchanging gits on New Years Eve

    by giving one another branches rom sacred trees or good ortune

    Later, nuts or coins imprinted with the god Janus became more

    common New Years gits.

    Janus was always depicted with

    two aces, one on the ront o

    his head and one on the back. Thus he could

    look backward and orward at the same

    time. At midnight on the 31st o December,

    the Romans imagined Janus looking back

    at the old year and orward to the new.

    The New Year has not always begun on January 1st, and it doesnt

    begin on that date everywhere today. It begins on that date only or

    cultures that use a 365-day solar calendar.

    The Julian and Gregorian calendars are solar calendars. Some cultures

    have lunar calendars, however. A year in a lunar calendar is less than365 days because the months are based on the phases o the moon.

    The Chinese use a lunar calendar. Their new year begins at the time

    o the rst ull moon (over the Far East) ater the sun enters Aquarius

    - sometime between January 19th and February 21st.

    January 1st became the beginning o the New Year in 46 B.C., when

    Julius Caesar developed a calendar that would more accurately refect

    the seasons than previous calendars had.

    In the Middle Ages, Christians changed New Years Day to December

    25th, the birth o Jesus. Then they changed it to March 25th, a holiday

    called the Annunciation.

    In the sixteenth century, Pope Gregory XIII revised the Julian calendar

    and the celebration o the New Year was returned to January 1st.

    Although the date or New Years Day is not the same in every cultureit is always a time or celebration and or customs to ensure good luck

    in the coming year.

    The Importance o Resolutions

    New Years Resolutions oer the rst o many important tools and

    opportunities or remaking ourselves.

    As with any opportunity, we have an obligation to capitalize on it and

    begin the year enjoying the sweetness o success, rather than experiencing

    and reinorcing the bitter taste o ailure and quitting.

    Failure, quitting, making excuses, and blame are not admirable

    qualities, and you should never allow yoursel to be associated with

    such behaviors. Unortunately thats exactly how the majority o

    people begin the New Yearevery year. Way to go!

    Why Make Resolutions?

    The purpose o making a resolution must be to achieve it, as there is

    no purer orm o success, no more exact and exacting test o what you

    are capable o, than to achieve a resolution and begin the process o

    change and growth in your lie.

    The thing that makes New Years Resolutions both exciting and

    important are the results achieved because o it.

    The reason most people never

    reach their resolutions is that

    they dont dene them, or ever

    seriously consider them as

    believable or achievable.

    they are going, what they

    plan to do along the way,

    and who will be sharing the

    adventure with them.

    the person it takes to achieve them, or what you become, youll soon

    nd is so much more important than the resolution itsel.

    The denition o success is quite

    dierent or each individual. Yet,

    the undamentals or achieving a resolution

    decisiveness, proceeds to ocus, advances

    to action, persistence, ollow through and

    eventually victory. There is no other way!

    New Years Resolutions, i taken seriously

    have the power to shape your lie and give it direction. It helps you

    to determine:

    What you specifcally want to achieve?

    Why this achievement is so important?

    Who will help you achieve to this resolution?

    Where you stand in relation to this resolution?

    How do you plan on accomplishing this resolution?

    When, on what date will victory be claimed?

    Success demands dedication, discipline, hard work, and courage. It

    requires your utmost attention and will not allow itsel to be taken or

    granted. Success must be earned, deserved, respected and appreciated

    Success plays by specic, non-negotiable rules, it will always require

    that goals and resolutions be clearly identied, plans in place and

    action consistently enorced.

    No one has the market cornered on success its unlimited as to what

    you can be, do and have. You must learn the undamentals o setting

    and achieving goals and resolutions, and be willing to invest a lietime

    o discipline to continually enorce those undamentals.

    Most people have no training on how to successully set and achieve

    goals and resolutions. They try various strategies and nally acquire

    some knowledge through the bitter pill o experience. This is like

    learning to drive by having a series o accidents.

    My goal in this report is to show you exactly what you must do in

    order to be successul in making and keeping your resolutions. But

    you must ollow the system as presented to you.

    The Five Stages o Successul Resolutions

    People the world over make New Years Resolutions. Oten, what we

    vow to improve is some habit related to health, weight, exercise

    occupation and income.

    You may think your successes or ailures in relation to New Years

    Resolutions are o no interest to the world at large. Not true!

    In act, a whole branch o science-psychology-is devoted to behavio

    modication. And psychology tells us that there are ve stages

    involved in turning resolutions into realities.

    Stage 1: Pre-contemplation

    The desire to change is vague. This is a good time to seek inormation

    and ask some important questions such as, What risks am I running

    by going along just as I have been?

    Stage : Contemplation

    Weigh the benets o change. This is a time to get specic, to monitor

    behavior.

    For example, keep a record o how much you eat, drink, spend, etc.

    Far away there in the sunshine

    Begin making small changes. For

    example, you might give up someTV time and redirect your energy.

    Nows the time to tell your amily

    and riends that the leopard is about

    to change his spots.

    Stage : The Action

    Banish and sacrice vices while embracing and committing to new

    virtues. At this point, give yoursel all the help and support you can

    by creating a sense o accountability to others. Encourage amily

    and riends to prod, provoke and push you and be mindul that the

    dierence between those with resolutions and plans that dont

    succeed, and those that do is simple.

    Those that succeed are able to execute well and ollow through

    until completion.

    How does one execute well and get good at it?

    You need to ocus time and resources on the core activities necessary

    or the achievement o your resolutions. There are always more things

    to do than there are time and resources available to do them.

    You must hold yoursel accountable to deadlines and adjust task

    accordingly. Slipping deadlines are a symptom o poor execution and

    a lack o discipline. Set realistic deadlines and then monitor progress

    and make timely decisions to ensure they are met.

    You need to surround yoursel with people, experience, and

    expertise. Well trained, experienced people know how to get the

    job done eectively.

    A person should set his goals as

    early as he can and devote all

    his energy and talent to getting

    there. With enough eort, he

    may achieve it. Or he may nd

    something that is even more

    rewarding. But in the end, no

    matter what the outcome, he will

    know he has been alive.

    This is the challenging part. Youre nished with your old habit and

    into your new lie.It is a lot easier to maintain your resolution than it is to regain it. Do

    yoursel a monumental avor and stay ocused on WHY you set this

    resolution in the rst place!

    Those who stay the course and ulll their resolutions share these

    our characteristics:

    They believe in their ability to change.

    They do not indulge in sel-blame or excuse making.

    They avoid wishul thinking and concentrate on results.

    They understand their motivators and reasons why theresolution is important.

    Resolution Guidelines

    The most important investments require time. Setting and achievinga resolution requires ocus, eort, and commitment. Changing old

    habits and developing new ones wont happen overnight.

    your New Years Resolutions:

    1. Focus on one resolution at a time.

    Focus is a strategic asset and the key actor behind all successul

    resolutions. Success requires that you concentrate your eorts on

    the smallest number o activities that will produce the largest amount

    The hardest part o achieving any resolution is usually getting started

    in the rst place.

    Do you want to be happy? Do you want to be thin? Do you want to

    work at something you really enjoy? Do you want to make money? Do

    you want to be debt ree?

    Far too many people have had a bad experience when it comes toachieving their resolutions. Most o us make them, intend to achieve
