By MEGAN HANSEN [email protected] The Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association is once again offering an afternoon of sweet fun Saturday with the annual Gingerbread Workshop. The Workshop runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Coupeville Masonic Lodge. “We started it as just a free family activity in con- junction with our shop local promotion,” said Vickie Chambers, executive direc- tor of the association. “We found out really quickly that people really like it. “Over the last four years we’ve doubled the amount of supplies we buy.” The workshop is free to the public. Just show up ready to create. “We have everything you need,” Chambers said. The association, with the help of some member spon- sors, provide gingerbread house kits and all the deco- rating candy needed. Get there early to ensure there’s a kit available and also that you have enough time to build and decorate. Chambers said they also bring plenty of graham crackers for people to make additional creations. “We try to be creative with what we get,” she said. While there is no cost for the workshop, the associa- tion is inviting attendees to bring a food item to donate to Gifts From the Heart food bank. Over the years, the asso- ciation has also found that it’s not only families with young children that attend the workshop, but over the years older couples and even college age people come to make houses. And once you’ve created your masterpiece, you can take it to the Coupeville Library and enter it in the Gingerbread Challenge, sponsored by the associa- tion, The Whidbey Examiner and the Friends of the Coupeville Library. Anyone can enter the challenge. Entries don’t have to be made during the workshop. Last year one of the win- ning entries was submitted after the workshop and caught the judges eyes for its creativeness in recreat- ing the Coupeville Wharf. Entries will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 18 and will be on display until that time. The public is invited to vote on their favorite cre- ation. Winning entries for best adult, child and people’s choice will be announced during the Red Ticket Drawing 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. Winning entries receive a prize. The Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association is once again offering an afternoon of sweet fun Saturday with the annual Gingerbread Workshop.

The Workshop runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Coupeville Masonic Lodge.

“We started it as just a free family activity in con-junction with our shop local promotion,” said Vickie Chambers, executive direc-tor of the association. “We found out really quickly that people really like it.

“Over the last four years we’ve doubled the amount of supplies we buy.”

The workshop is free to the public. Just show up ready to create.

“We have everything you need,” Chambers said.

The association, with the help of some member spon-sors, provide gingerbread house kits and all the deco-rating candy needed.

Get there early to ensure there’s a kit available and also that you have enough time to build and decorate.

Chambers said they also

bring plenty of graham crackers for people to make additional creations.

“We try to be creative

with what we get,” she said. While there is no cost for

the workshop, the associa-tion is inviting attendees to

bring a food item to donate to Gifts From the Heart food bank.

Over the years, the asso-

ciation has also found that it’s not only families with young children that attend the workshop, but over the

years older couples and even college age people come to make houses.

And once you’ve created your masterpiece, you can take it to the Coupeville Library and enter it in the Gingerbread Challenge, sponsored by the associa-tion, The Whidbey Examiner and the Friends of the Coupeville Library.

Anyone can enter the challenge. Entries don’t have to be made during the workshop.

Last year one of the win-ning entries was submitted after the workshop and caught the judges eyes for its creativeness in recreat-ing the Coupeville Wharf.

Entries will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 18 and will be on display until that time.

The public is invited to vote on their favorite cre-ation.

Winning entries for best adult, child and people’s choice will be announced during the Red Ticket Drawing 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20.

Winning entries receive a prize.
