Perk up your wardrobe this season with a striking print that grabs attention.

Black and white is always a classic combination and is on trend for spring 2015 in either a bold geometric, which is perfect on a bathing suit with a sophisticat-ed halter-style top, or in cute and feminine polka dots, just right in a flirty dress with an A-line silhouette.

Looking for something even funkier? Opt for a fun, less-predictable pat-tern but keep the rest of your look simple by adding a key acces-sory that plays off one of the colours – for example, a chunky red scarf.

“Untold” Elizabeth Arden

With a sparkling and fruity introduction, radiant floral heart and mysterious addictive warmth, Untold captures all that a woman is. It opens with sparkling pink pepper fused with crisp bergamot, while playful fruity accents of pear and black currant evoke her predictable ways. Delicate gardenia petals enwrap themselves with intoxicating Egyptian jasmine and whispers of patchouli and sandalwood. Finally her magnetic sensuality is unveiled as heated ambers cascade over hypnotic musk.

“Dahlia Divin” Givenchy

This is a timeless woody scent that enchants with lush sweet top notes and caresses the senses with a radiant sensuality. Golden Mirabelle plum evokes a sweet and fruity opening, leading the way to the heart with the aroma of white flowers and highlighted by jasmine. The fragrance develops fully with the rich alluring notes of sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli for a strikingly delicious aura.

“Reveal” Calvin Klein

This ladies fragrance is described as a Sensual Oriental, with the scent of sun kissed skin, sea salt, and a summer sunset. Salt accords are at the top with pink, black and white pepper. The heart arrives with powdery oris, ambergris, and a solar accord. Sensual and rich sandalwood constructs the base together with vetiver, cashmere and musk. Like the Calvin Klein woman, Reveal is sexy, confident and provocative with a hint of the unexpected!

“Legend” Monteblanc

Monte Blanc Legend is an unapologetically masculine scent that appeals to the self confident, relaxed and charismatic man. The

depicts a modern vision of masculinity. This fragrance starts with an opening of vibrantly fresh grapefruit, mandarin oranges and a rush of marine accords that develops into the dynamic heart of aromatic bay leaf and hedione jasmine. The victorious dry down leaves a woody trace of guaiac wood, patchouli, oak moss, and ambergris. This delightful scent is perfect for the man who always wants to put his best foot forward!

EXPLOREOUR FAMILY FAVOURITE RECIPES ONLINE

#7 on the popular food blog the kitchn’s recent post “10 things you should know before getting into a relationship with someone who loves food” captured me. “Do not be alarmed by the amount of cookbooks in their home. Do not suggest they “get rid of a couple.” Maybe later you can talk about lessening the book load. Maybe, but probably not.” Cookbooks are never just a collection of recipes, rather a map of one’s past and a history of food trends. My 1970s Betty Crocker Boys and Girls Cookbook holds an honoured spot and seeing the Mad Hatter Meatballs and Flopsy Mopsy Carrots still whisks me back to the wonder of such an ex-otic sounding recipe. Very reluctantly I’ve attempted to purge my collection. While most of the Company’s Coming

are gone, I stubbornly clung to the Cas-serole and Muffin editions, splotched pages reminding me of cooking for my young family. The beloved Best of Bridge series remains, a reminder of introducing new ingredients, like curry, to my cooking repertoire. The Mennonite Treasury of Recipes stays, and a shelf of autographed cookbooks proudly grows as chefs come to the Market for cooking classes. Alice Wa-ters, Jerusalem - a mostly vegetarian book, and Butter all make for wonderful bedtime reading and inspire me with their accompanying stories. Bring this article into the market and we will give you 20% off any of our beautiful cookbooks to feed your own addiction! Don’t blame me for any fallout!

Egg and Black Bean Tortillas with Chipotle MayoPROVIDED BY LEPP FARM MARKET

INGREDIENTS:2 Lepp’s fresh chorizo sausage, casings removed

(a good substitute is spicy Italian sausage)1 tbsp vegetable oil1/2 onion, diced1 red pepper, seeded and diced2 cups cooked black beans (398 ml. tin), drained and rinsed1 tsp Sriracha or Sambal Oelek (add more if you like it spicy) 1 tsp ground cuminsalt6 flour tortillas8 large eggs2 avocados, pitted, peeled and sliced2 ripe tomatoes, chopped1 cup shredded Mexican blend or cheddar cheese

1/2 cup SunPic Spicy Chipotle Mayo (alternately, mix one tinned chipotle pepper in adobo sauce with 1/2 cup mayo in a food processor, or mix some Sriracha with mayo. I prefer the chipotle sauce as it gives it a smoky flavour)

DIRECTIONS:Saute the Lepp’s fresh chorizo sausage in a medium frying pan, breaking it up into small pieces, until no red remains. A potato masher works very well for this. Remove from pan and set aside in a small bowl. Heat oil in same pan and saute the onion and pepper until soft, about 10 min-utes. Add the beans, hot sauce, cumin, and salt to taste and cook until beans are heated. Return the cooked sau-sage to the pan and mix together with the vegetables.

Meanwhile, wrap tortillas in foil and place in preheated 350 degree until warm, about 10 minutes. Or, wrap in slightly moistened clean dish towel and warm in microwave for 2 minutes.

Break the eggs into a bowl and scramble them in a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently, until soft fluffy curds form, about 2 minutes.

Placing a tortilla on the plate, spoon a line of Spicy Chipotle Mayo down the center of the tortilla, then add some of the bean mixture and the eggs. Top with avocados, tomatoes, and cheese, then roll up. Repeat with the remaining torti-llas, serve warm.

ON THE PALATE: Green apple and citrus, followed by mineral notes and a fresh finish.

OVERALL: This is a Spanish Cava, made in the Traditional Method with traditional grapes, and stuffed with QPR—quality-price ratio. It is a great way to add sparkle to a celebration, and because it’s not very high in alcohol, it is per-fect at breakfast, too.

DISH

This recipe, adapted from “The Fresh Egg” cookbook didn’t include meat, but Farmer Rob needs his meat and our own fresh Chorizo sausage is a great fit for this southwestern-inspired dish! You can easily turn this simple dish into a vegetarian one by omitting the sausage and it would work as a breakfast, brunch or easy dinner dish. Packing it in your lunch will make you the envy of your workplace lunch room! Black beans are an excellent source of protein, magnesium and iron.

BANANAS: Bananas provide a substan-tial amount of magnesium as well as the amino acid tryptophan. While trypto-phan is most often associated with feeling sleepy after eating a turkey dinner, it also has been linked to better sleep quality. A banana shortly before bed might be just what you need.

CHEESE AND CRACKERS: Cheese and crackers contain tryptophan and carbohy-drates, which can induce a better night’s sleep and help you fall asleep sooner.

CHERRIES: Cherries contain melatonin. Recent studies indicated that participants who drank tart cherry juice daily fell asleep more quickly and slept longer and better than participants who did not.

Many people experience difficulty falling asleep and then staying asleep as they age. But even though difficulty sleeping may be a part of aging, that does not mean there aren’t steps one can take to improve sleeping patterns. For example, certain snack foods may help to improve quality of sleep, especially when these foods replace less healthy snacking options. While people over 50 should always consult with their physicians before making any changes to their diets, the following are a handful of snack foods that promote better sleep.

ALMONDS: Almonds contain enough magnesium (a mineral with muscle-relax-ing properties) to help get a better night’s sleep. A small amount of almonds before bed might make falling and staying asleep easier.

with tryptophan, folate and vitamin B6. Folate has proven especially beneficial to older men and women who need help regulating their sleep patterns, while vita-min B6 helps the body regulate its clock.

PEANUT BUTTER: Peanut butter is also loaded with tryptophan. Try peanut butter on a carbohydrate, before going to bed, and you may enjoy a better, longer sleep.

WALNUTS: Walnuts also contain mela-tonin, which can contribute to a longer, more restful night’s sleep. Walnuts also can help regulate stress, which is a lead-ing cause of sleeping difficulty.

Many men and women experience difficulty sleeping as they age. But the right foods may just help combat such problems and help men and women get a more adequate night’s sleep.

Dos & don’ts of kitchen remodels According to Remodeling magazine’s “2014 Cost vs. Value Report,” a major kitchen remodeling project should enable homeowners to recoup 74.2 percent of their initial investments. Kitchen renovations are a safe way to improve the functionality and value of a home. But not every kitchen project is a guaranteed winner. Homeowners may inadvertently make changes that end up sticking out like a sore thumb rather than improving the space. Take a look at these kitchen remodeling dos and don’ts to guide your next undertaking.

DO consider the way your kitchen will look with the rest of the home.Keep architectural integrity in mind when designing the space. A farmhouse sink and country cabinets can look out of place in an ultra-modern home.

DON’T overlook the importance of a seasoned designer or architect. These pros will know the tricks to max-imizing space and achieving the ideal

layout of appliances and can recom-mend local contractors and vendors.

DO look beyond surface details to the structural integrity of the design. The kitchen should be functional, long-lasting and beautiful.

DON’T design just for today, but look to the future as well. Unless you are willing to spend $50,000 every five years, look for styles and ma-terials that will last for the long haul.

DO work with what you have. A complete demolition and renovation is not always necessary to achieve the desired results. Only invest in major changes if something is not working or is unsafe. Otherwise, minor upgrades may do the trick.

DON’T over-improve the space.

A fully-equipped commercial kitchen is great for a professional chef, but the aver-age person won’t need an industrial hood and indoor pizza oven. When you make excessive improvements, you may not be able to recoup as much of the cost be-cause your home will not be on par with the values of homes in the neighborhood.

DO work within your means. Plan for some unexpected purchases and plan out the renovation according to your budget. Skimping on materials or design because of lack of money may leave you feeling dissatisfied afterward.
