Special Care From the Beginning

Our MottoWe’ve got a motto at Pediatric

Dentistry and Orthodontic Specialists of Michigan - “Special Care from the Beginning.”

As dental care providers, we know that providing the best care to our patients is absolutely essential from the first day that they come through our doors. That’s a practice that we’ve grown up with, and one that we hope your child will, too.

Start EarlyAs a parent, you may find yourself wondering how to ensure

that your child’s teeth are as healthy as possible from the very start. Many parents are surprised to learn that they should schedule their child’s first dental appointments very near their first birthday.

Our doctors and staff follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and firmly believe that bringing your child into the dentist from an early age increases their comfort level with both the doctors and the office, itself. The earlier you get started with your child, the quicker they’ll be looking forward to coming back.

Preparation Before bringing any young child into the office, it is important to remember to

refrain from heightening any anxiety that your child may have surrounding their dental visit. Using aggressive or “scary” words such as “needle,” or “drill,” may cause your child to

build up an unnecessary fear around their visit to our office, so it may be wise to avoid this type of talk around your child.

Additionally, talking with your child about their concerns about their dental visit provides an opportunity for you to have a relaxed and candid chat in which fears or reservations are soothed. It’s more than likely that a simple conversation will allow your child to sail smoothly through their visit to our office - even if they were nervous beforehand!

Our doctors and staff are extremely well equipped to manage anxiety or negative feelings that many children may have towards dental offices or procedures. Knowing this, you can rest assured that your child will be in caring and understanding hands, even if they’re still a little skittish when they come through the door for their appointment.

See You SoonWe look forward to serving you and your child from their

first steps into dental care onwards. We can’t wait to see you soon.
