The students of Class V participated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the Calendar Making group activity on 3 January. They were divided into groups where they used all their creativity to depict the various months along with the dates on paper. It was great fun to see them working on it.

MOVIE SHOW The students of Classes III – VI were taken to see Nanha Jasoos on 3 January. It was a detective movie which gave the students an inspiration to bring out the little detectives hidden in them and also a few tips on how to solve their problems.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY Students of V-C presented a Special Assembly on 7 January. The assembly focused on speaking in English, respecting our elders, viewing less T.V. and saving electricity. Special assembly was also conducted by the students of V-B on 12 January to celebrate the harvest festival of Makar Sankranti. Children dressed up in traditional dresses depicted the unity and diversity of Indian Culture.

FIELD TRIP TO WOCKHARDT

CALENDAR MAKING

Students of Class IV went for a field trip to Wockhardt Hospital on 15 and 16 January.

VISIT TO INDOOR STADIUM NATIONAL TT TOURNAMENT

The students of class V and VI visited the Indoor Stadium for the National TT Tournament on 21 January.

CLASS PICNICS

The students of Class IV went for a picnic to Ukai Dam on the 31 January whereas students of Class III went to Tithal Beach.

REPUBLIC DAY ASSEMBLY

A special assembly was conducted by class IV A on 28 January on the occasion of 60th Republic Day.

Pre primary Sports Fest

Our pre primary section had a week long Sports Fest from 19-23 January with races and displays like yogasanas and different types of pyramids and cart wheels. The children were felicitated with certificates and prizes in the fields they excelled in.

FIRST ATHLETICS MEET 2008-09

10 January became a momentous day in the annals of DPS Surat. There was an in-style Inter House March Past and a booming Band Performance. The noteworthy events of the Meet for Classes III-VI were Inter House 50, 80 & 200 Mts. Races, Marble and Spoon Race, Market Race, Hurdle Race, Frog Race, Banana Race, Chess, Long Jump, Table Tennis, Shot put, Discus Throw, and Basket Ball. Classes VII-XII had equally exciting events like 80, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 Mts. Race, Relay, High Jump, and Darts.

To top it all, was the awarding of the Championship Trophy. The Gryphons and the Unicorns were ecstatic, when the House Championship Trophy was given jointly to the Gryphon & Unicorn Houses.

2ND INTER SCHOOL DISTRICT TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP 2009 This championship was held on January 24 and 25 January at Rustampura Community Hall, Surat. Anushka Jain (VII-C) secured gold medal in black belt and a gold medal in heavy girls group. Bhavya Patel (VII-D) got a gold medal in welter boys and a bronze medal in black belt group. Bhavi Patel (VII-D) got a bronze medal in middle girls group. Trishla Surana (VII-B) got a silver medal in heavy girls group. Mitan Borana (VII-E) got a silver medal in middle boys group. Tanmay Malhotra (IV-D) got a silver medal in welter boys group. Urjita Vinchurkar (IV-B) got a gold medal in welter girls and a silver medal in yellow to blue girls group. 54TH NATIONAL SCHOOL GAMES 2008-09 The 54th National School Games were held at Chandigarh from 8 to 13 January. Smit Choksi (IX-B) bagged silver medal in Table-Tennis in under 17 years boys individual championship while Abhijeet Choksi (IX-B) won bronze medal in team championship for the same age group. In the Skating Championship Aastha Rathod (V-A) got two bronze medals in the Rink race III & IV respectively. SURAT DISTRICT OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 The Surat District Open Chess Championship was held on 25 & 26 January. Meet Agrawal (VI-C) secured second position in under 15 years category. PRESENTATION WITH CHARTS As part of Multiple Intelligence Learning the students of Classes IX A and VIII F made presentations based on a variety of social, literary and commerce topics using charts between 11 to 20 January.

DPSS MUN The Delhi Public School Surat Model United Nations Session commenced on January 16, 2009. The Secretary General (Ms. Prarthna Lalbhai of XII A) declared the session open. The students of class XI A gave an enthralling dance performance. The students were divided into two committees: General Assembly and United Nations Environment Programme. While the GA concentrated on the topic ‘Terrorism’, UNEP was all about ‘Environmental Issues’. The students of class VIII and IX were the delegates who represented their countries. The Executive Board consisting of Chair, Rapporteur, and Director was very supportive and encouraged the delegates to interact. Class XI took out a newsletter, ‘MUN GAZETTE’ every day. The session unfolded in three phases namely Moderated and Unmoderated Caucuses and Speaker List. The session winded up with the Resolution making by GA and UNEP. The students enjoyed the novel experience of being a part of ‘UNITED NATION DPSS’ and foreseeing themselves as dynamic delegates of Model United Nations.

EXCURSION FOR CLASS VII Students of Class VII went for a field trip to Ahmedabad in the month of January. The trip started with a visit to the Science city where the students went on the “Mission to Mars” spaceship and saw a 3D movie about underwater creatures. The first day of the trip ended on a musical note with spectacular display of the musical fountains. Day two was marked by a visit to the Nalsarovar wetland where the students saw migratory birds and also had the joy of boating. They also went to Lothal , the site of Indus valley civilization and then visited the Indroda Nature Park in Gandhinagar. On the last day the students visited the Thor Bird Sanctuary and the Adalaj step well.

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS

The 60th Republic Day in 2009 was a very eventful day. The programme started by welcoming our Honourable Chief Guest Mr. Pradeep Kumar and Mrs. Kumar. It was followed by flag hoisting by Ms. Shikha Biswas, the first teacher of our school. The students of class IV gave a spectacular dance performance on the song Vande Mataram.
