AbstractCarl will provide an over view of the gas assisted molding process. He willexplain how the process works and the creative design solutions that canbe achieved using gas assisted molding. Examples of different part designswill be available for review.

BioCarl has been employed in the plastic industry for over 45 years. He’s man-aged mold making facilities, worked as a project manager in a severalmolding plants, and for the last 25 years worked as a sales representativeand as a consultant for molding companies, as well as the military. His di-verse and extensive experience has enabled Carl to lead companies tocreative solutions in design and molding process selection for their uniqueapplications. He has previously presented at the structural plastics show,Philadelphia University and a number of company sites and events. CarlFoehner served in the United States Air Force and is a Vietnam Veteran.

President’s Message

I’d like to welcome back all the mem-bers of the Palisades NJ section tobegin the new year. My name is MikeCarnese and I have been in the Plasticsindustry for over 30 years in both tech-nical service and sales and marketingfor Additives for PVC and Polyolefins, aswell as Pharmaceutical Additives. I

hope your summer has been relaxing and your focus for theyear is, among other things, on education. Our mission hasbeen and will continue to be encouraging our members, bothstudent and professional, to expand their knowledge of the in-dustry by sharing their experiences with others. That is why thisyear we will be focusing on having our meetings both at localmanufacturing facilities such as Leistritz and B Braun, as wellas with our student chapters in NJ and now in Lehigh, PA. Thisyear we will begin our meetings at Rutgers with a discussionby Sajar Plastics on Gas-assisted IM. Future meetings will bejust as informative, focusing on Melt analysis, Recycling, andMedical applications for Plastics. There will also be a 1-daySeminar given later in the year by Paul Brigandi on Extrusionand Compounding of Wire and Cable The year will concludewith our annual Scholarship Awards dinner, recognizing ourhigh school, undergraduate, and graduate scholars going for-ward with their studies.

We hope these topics will encourage our membership to attendthe meetings and meet with your present and future contem-poraries in the Plastics Industry. If you feel that your companycan offer more information and education to the membership,let us know and we can schedule something that could intro-duce your talent and products.

Kenrich Petrochemicals Aims to Improve Graphene Reinforcement Kenrich President, Sal Monte, says, “Graphene is going to befor advanced composites and concrete what fiberglass wasfor unsaturated polyester composites.” Sal explains that hiscompany’s titanium and zirconium chemistries are effectiveas coupling agents in making graphene work better as a re-inforcement. Kenrich will be working with Garmor Inc., an Or-lando, Florida based graphene oxide manufacturer that wasspun off from the University of Central Florida. Ampacet Introduces New ProductsNew products from masterbatch producer Ampacet includea masterbatch for plastic tools used in the food industry thatenables the detection of plastic contamination using conven-tional metal detectors already installed on food processinglines. These detectors are needed to catch small plastic frag-ments that might break off during processing and enter foodraw materials or finished products. Blue Edge masterbatches from Ampacet enhance the aes-thetics of post-consumer recycled PE and PET. The additiveincreases brightness by adding a bluish tone, and also re-duces the risk of additional gel formation.
