What can you tell me
about the difference?
To walk towards you.
To open me up.
Once, we were prey.
Speaking draws attention to us.

No battleplan survives..
There are useful approaches.
What did you notice?
Recall for a moment
a Presentation that
had significant impact

When it’s gone well for you..
Emotion Preparation Interact Connection
Emotion Preparation Interact Connection
Nothing is personal.
Crossing liminal space.
‘I will say nothing new. It is not coming from me anyway. And, if there is any truth in what I say, It will be because people hear it,
And not because I say it.’
People want you to succeed.
Study yourself closely.
Find your touchstones.
Every communication is two conversations.
Gesture always trumps the spoken.
The eyes have it.
Use your feet with purpose.
Remember the anchor point.
The importance of pause.
How do you show up?
Emotion Preparation Interact Connection
Times have changed.
You might just be more white noise.
Be succinct.
Brief doesn’t simply mean short.
Finish before they think you should.

Using a BRIEF Map
Brief, (2014). Joseph McCormack
Emotion Preparation Interact Connection
Some things draw us into connection.
Humour
Silence
Story
Metaphor
Humility
Music
Questions
Vision
Leave the funny stuff..
Story can connect us.
Story can transport us.
Story can offer us hope.
Story can build credibility.
A good story puts us into our PJs.
Story has a structure.
It can go wrong.
He can show up.
Or a room full of her and her friends.
And some days you just have to ride the bull.
It’s only a defeat if there’s no learning.
What will you do next time?
It is a ‘disaster’ to lose sight of the stars.
Be true to your season. Stand in front of
people with heart and offer things of worth.
Work with humility, mindful of the wisdom of
others.
Good places to follow up.

Don’t start with an apology.
Try to avoid barriers.
Even my feathers look at me.
Enjoy their company.
Anyone else got a question?
Finish a little ahead of schedule.
They find their campfire.

Using NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
Brief, (2014). Joseph McCormack
Notice anything about the slides?
‘Slideologically’ speaking
We’re all visual learners. Multi-sensory experiences stimulate learning
and support memory.
Slides scaffold your presentation.
BUT
We are already on information overload.
Multi-tasking is a myth.
If your slide is saying the same thing as you,
one of you is superfluous.
‘Slideologically’ speaking
Few as possible
Simple as possible
Font style-contemporary and easy to read
Font size-consistent for headings and text.
Get good images- istock are my source.
Transitions-generally avoid.
Keep your back to them as much as you can.
Don’t read them.
Don’t block them.
Use a remote.
Review the takeaways.
