SPEAKING CLUB 7: Schooldays Higher levels
EXAM PRACTICE: TASK 1 MONOLOGUE
Prepare a presentation about your shooldays. Think about the following topics:
• an inspiring teacher
• subjects you liked/disliked
• food at the school
• uniform or clothes you used to wear
• things you used to do but don’t do anymore
• how you felt at school
• how you feel now when you think about schooldays
When you prepare your presentation think about:
1. The structure
2. The content
3. The language
Give your presentation to a partner. Then change partner and give your presentation again thinking carefully about the things that can be improved. It’s been proved that the second time we do things we do them better so it’s a good idea repeating the presentation and preparing topics at home. It would also be a good idea to give your presentation for the rest of the group. Speaking in public makes us nervous and anxious and that is what normally happens when we do a test, we become nervous and make many mistakes we don’t normally make. For this reason, speaking when we are nervous can be seen as a learning experience.
After speaking write your presentation and leave it as a comment on:

SPEAKING CLUB 7: Schooldays Higher levels
EXAM PRACTICE: TASK 2 INTERACTION You are now going to prepare a conversation in pairs.
STUDENT A
You have very bad memories of your school days, when you were in primary school.
Have a conversation with your partner about it:
. You hated school and were a bad student.
. You never respected the school rules. Tell your partner about this.
. You had awful teachers, and you remember one of them in particular.
. You only remember one or two positive things about those days.
Plan your ideas and think about the language you will need.
STUDENT B
You have very good memories of your school days, when you were in primary school.
Have a conversation with your partner about it:
. You loved school and were a good student.
. You always respected the school rules. Tell your partner about this.
. You had fantastic teachers, and you remember one of them in particular.
. You only remember one or two negative things about those days. Tell your
partner.
Plan your ideas and think about the language you will need.
Remember it is a conversation; it should be an interactive task so you are expected to ask
questions to your partner to show them you are following them and show interest in what they
are saying. Make it sound as a natural conversation between two friends.
If you go to my blog you will find posts on useful language to use in conversation to show
interest and react to other people’s word.
