Innova,ve Periodon,cs: “How To” from Techniques to Products

PeriodonFFs is a major reason for tooth loss and systemic complica, ons. We create the user-friendly perio approach from pa,ent acceptance scrip,ng to chair side posi,ve ac,on. You will incorporate ,me tested and new technologies to find and manage periodontal disease. Take the frustra,on out of delivering periodontal care and gain success with pa,ent case acceptance, tooth reten,on and financial reward.

Learning ObjecFves:

• Empower the dental hygienist with expanded work descrip, ons beyond the “prophy”

• Develop “realis,c” non-surgical therapies and the respec,ve re-evalua,on with emphasis on “new” an,-inflammatory systems including micro-ultrasonics and laser technology, and nutraceu, cals such as probio,cs and an,-oxidants

• Determine the efficacy of u,lizing various laser wavelengths in sulcular decontamina,on, degranula,on, new acachment, and bone regenera,on

• Review successful parameters to determine tooth survival in short and long term prognosis

• Establish a quality periodontal maintenance program that enhances the restora,ve prac,ce, including third party reimbursement

• Achieve greater posi,ve interac,on between den,sts and the team through improved communica,on skills

PeriodonFFs has entered into a new fron,er as not only a major chronic infec,on but moreover a disease of chronic inflamma,on. Recent studies demonstrate that the incidence of periodon,,s has been underes)mated by 50%. Determining who is at risk and the corresponding therapy and management is a significant component of effec,ve treatment. Dental school provides the science. This course transforms the science into actual dental prac)ce.

The “New” Periodontal Disease: “Inflammatory and Risky”

Learning ObjecFves:

• Learn an approach for managing inflamma,on as a systemic and local immune response with an,oxidants and microthin ultrasonic/laser combos

• Recognize management of periodon,,s as a major chronic inflammatory systemic disease

• Determine the role of tradi, onal and non-tradi,onal therapies in controlling periodon,,s

• U,lize risk assessment to determine suscep,bility

• Incorporate the new paradigm of periodontal medicine into the prac,ce

• Consider gene,cs, diet (probio,cs/nutraceu,cals), and stress as variables in controlling disease

How to Manage the 4 Top Dental Condi, ons of Today’s Baby Boomer

We now see a major increase/ frequency of oral condi, ons associated with the “Baby Boomer Genera,on”. The four primary areas of concern are: 1) chronic inflamma,on and periodon,,s with over 67% having tooth loss disease, 2) Xerostomia at greater than 40% with the compromised lifestyle and symptoms 3) difficulty finding and trea,ng root caries, and 4) implant disease.

We will analyze these primary diseases from ini,al diagnosis to life,me disease management. Addi, onally, we’ll explore case presenta,on strategies and best prac, ces for increasing treatment acceptance by understanding the genera, onal characteris,cs of this age group and what they want/desire.

Learning ObjecFves:

• Establish techniques for communica,ng with the Boomer genera,on

• Discover key words and communica,on skills that increase likelihood of treatment acceptance

• Develop fast, effec,ve screening for the diseases of the over 55 popula,on

• Understand the e,ology of periodon,,s as the “new chronic inflammatory disease” and Xerostomia as a condi,on with mul,ple issues and root caries

• Implement innova,ve nonsurgical periodontal management therapies, as well as local and systemic therapies for the dry mouth pa,ent

• Gain strategies for managing implant diseases such as mucosi,s and implan,,s

The “over sixty” popula-on will increase significantly during the next decade, domina-ng our prac-ces. Get ready for gum disease, dry mouth, root decay and sick implants!

The introducFon of dental implants in the overall management of pa,ents is at an all-,me high and dental professionals have yet to achieve consensus for a standard of care. Recent data now demonstrates that inflamma,on associated with implants is commonplace and can result in loss of the implant with failure rates con, nuing to be at an all ,me high. Implant diseases range from mucosi,s to bone loss implan,,s. Long-term implant success can depend on quality preven,on, treatment and maintenance. The dental team (especially the dental hygienist) requires successful systems and tools to enhance longevity and implant health.

Learning ObjecFves:

• Enhance diagnos,c and differen,a,on skills for implan,,s versus mucosi,s

• Develop communica,on skills to educate the pa,ent about their disease

• Examine considera, ons for local versus systemic an,bio,cs in detoxifica,on/decontamina,on

• Create innova,ve at home oral hygiene systems that enhance compliance

• Incorporate safe techniques for at-the-chair an,-inflammatory Biofilm control with innova,ve technology, such as air medicinal delivery

• Establish the role of dental lasers in both open and closed procedures

• Determine the prognosis of a diseased implant and how to develop the ul,mate treatment plan

Create a niche pracFce by moving into laser minimally invasive den, stry. From periodontal management to various soo and hard ,ssue procedures, laser technology creates posi,ve case acceptance. Determine the appropriate laser for your prac,ce by u,lizing a defined decision protocol for produc,ve use of the laser.

Lasers offer a safe and effec,ve alterna,ve for a wide range of dental procedures. Some of the advantages include: increased precision, controlled bleeding, accelerated healing, reduced post-opera,ve issues, shorter procedure ,me, less pain, greater case acceptance and a more relaxed experience for the pa,ent. Explore manipula,ng gingivae for access, esthe,cs, and restora,ve ease.

Create Quality Patient Care and Practice Growth with Laser Dynamics

Learning ObjecFves:

• Determine the effec, veness of u,lizing various laser wavelengths for soo and hard ,ssue

• Review the characteris,cs of a smart laser acquisi,on: cost, size, and ease of use

• Consider laser applica,ons to nonsurgical periodon,cs

• Understand indica, ons for using laser in crown lengthening and pre-orthodon,c procedures including esthe,cs, frenectomy and troughing

• Explore effec,ve communica,on strategies for laser case acceptance with emphasis on pa,ent comfort

• Review third party coding for laser procedures

Micro-thin ultrasonic instrumentaFon decreases fa,gue and enhances efficiency with new topical anesthe,cs and techniques to manage difficult access, including the pesky furca,on! Incorpora,ng power driven instrumenta,on into the periodontal component of the prac,ce provides a ,me effec,ve adjunct to defini,ve root planing and the biofilm removal process of the periodic suppor,ve maintenance.

Enhance your armamentarium in trea,ng today’s ini,al and recare periodontal pa,ent where surgical therapy may not be feasible. By incorpora,ng a combina,on of both ultrasonic instrumenta,on in tandem with air medicament technologies, the par, cipant is taken to new heights in providing a synergis,c level of care.

Advanced Ultrasonic Instrumentation with Air Medicament Delivery in Periodontal Management

Learning ObjecFves:
