Iwan Sunito graduated with Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) and Master of Construction of Management from University of NSW was awarded the UNSW Eric Daniels award for excellence in residential design in 1992. Iwan became a Registered Architect in NSW in 1993.

In recent years Iwan was awarded Indonesia’s Property & Bank Magazine Golden Leadership Award, Indonesian Diaspora Entrepreneur award and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Iwan is active in charity fundraising in Australia and abroad.

Paul Sathio completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at University of Technology Sydney and a Masters of Engineering Science at University of NSW. Paul was attracted to a career in building and construction from early childhood, watching his parents’ manage their own construction materials business.

Today, Paul has more than two decades’ experience in the construction and development industry and directly oversees construction and teams at each of Crown Groups’ projects, ensuring the highest possible standard and quality.

Designed by Koichi Takada Architects, the design for Sydney by Crown focuses on providing a building that both enhances the existing streetscape and provides an iconic and recognizable additional to the CBD skyline. Inspired by the masonry character of significant heritage buildings and characteristic arches, a duality is introduced to the facade, represented by the varied aesthetics of the podium and tower. The sculptural tower element floats above the podium, shaping the skyline with a gentle and organic form. The ground floor and podium can be appreciated at a pedestrian scale within a rich streetscape activated by retail and commercial.

Serviced apartments and residential apartments on the lower levels are protected by recessed balconies, defining a visual identity similar to a New York loft. The materials and details have a level of intricacy and authenticity that enrich and invite a heritage appreciation. The tower, viewed from within the through-site link and from surrounding vantage points, sculpts the city skyline. The relationship between the public and residential activation at Green Square, has become intrinsic to the design of what Koichi Takada from Koichi Takada Architects refers to as ‘Infinity’.

The design features are represented in two intertwined loops – a visual connection between the public and a residential design. The resulting building is one that is fluid, connected, activated and responsive to the urban context.

The relationship to the plaza and public domain, and in particular the solar amenity, has sculpted the tilt of the loops and gentle transition in the building form.

The central courtyard comes alive at night with a public art installation or light show.

The facade of the corridor above allows the light projection without disruption to the residents. The light show is one possible use for the courtyard the space is flexible and connected and has the potential to be part of the community events for Green Square. The suggested projection, reminiscent of cascading water, speaks back to a historical reference to the shea’s stream and creeks, that once defined the site in the 1800’s.
