    Greetings!

    To quote Angela Aradia, What a way to start a season!! Our exhibit atthe von Liebig, Dimensions in Art, is a huge success. We had people

    fighting over a piece, we had sales before the exhibit opened, we hadthe judge purchase a piece, weve had work commissioned, and we had600+ people attend the joint reception with the von Liebig memberexhibit, Show of Shows! We certainly made an impression on Naples!

    Tired of Drying;Tree Nymphs Council;Kreighton = Octopus;Sunset in Paradise . (SOLD to the judge!!);Nantucket Tray Table .Removal for the show is Monday, October 7, from 10 AM 1 PM. If youneed help picking up your pieces, let me know.

    The Guild will be showing our art work at the Southwest Floridain Ft. Myers in November, December, and

    . This will be an ALL MEMBER show! More info is providedbelow and the Prospectus will be distributed soon. This is a fabulousopportunity to sell your work and to gain attention for the Guild!Thank you to Sandra Mark and the Art Council of SWFL for providingthis wonderful opportunity!

    The Board has also decided that our exhibit at the Sidney and B

    Davis Art Center in downtown Ft. Myers in July of 2015 will be anMEMBER exhibit! We are delighted to provide exhibit opportunitieevery member of the Guild! Please plan ahead so you have wavailable for this show. Our snowbirds should arrange for work tleft behind and taken to receiving. The prospectus will go out in plof time, but there will be no size restrictions as their gallerenormous, and a larger-than-normal number of pieces per artist wiallowed.

    We are making great strides in the volunteer department! Sue Arhas accepted the Standards Assistant position, which will greatly Jacqui Smith with the workload of her job, and it will help improvestandards process even more! Edie Limbright is taking the RecruChair position that has just opened up! Thank you, Sue and Edie,jumping in so fearlessly! Zdenka Fiala and Dale Eulitz have volunteto work the table at the Alliances Fall for the Artsfestival so we arfor this years event. Keep reading for a full listing of volunopportunities.

    Andrew Corkes Goodyear Gorilla piece, currently in ourDimensions in Artexhibit, has been juried into the Beasts in

    Broadwayexhibit in Santa Cruz, CA. Stan Dzedzy will be the featured artist inthe Cape Coral Arts

    Studio Galleryfor the month ofOctober. Fantasy in Clayopens on October 4, and the artists reception is Friday,October 4 from 5 to 7 PM. Please note the reception has beenmoved due to a conflict with the Co-op Gallery October

    reception. Louis Ford, along with Bob Ford, will be the featured artist in

    CCAS for the month of November. 2-D 3D by ForD will

    open on November 8 and will run through November 26. Theopening reception will be Friday, November 8 from 5 7 PM. Petra Kaisers fused glass piece, Wave, won the Honorable

    Mention Prize in CCAS Aquarium Exhibit!

    Sherry Moesch has been busy since she left us! She has onglass piece and two pieces of jewelry in the 2013 Judged

    Competition at the Helen Arts and History Center, Helen

    where they will be on display until November. She will

    be participating in Artoberfest and the Trading Moon Fest

    both in Georgia.

    Phyllis Rieser is having a studio sale on Sunday, Octobefrom 10 AM 3 PM. Her address is 5019 SW 20 th Place, CCoral. She will be selling gallery pieces at 35 - 70% off! started on your Christmas and Chanukah shopping!

    Minutes of April, 2013 accepted.

    1. Seahorse Project: Tomorrow, 9/22/13, starting at 9 AM, work will

    begin on the Seahorse at Dee Cooper's home. Two will be decorated:

    one - 5 feet, another at 15 in. A sign up sheet passed around. Contact

    Dee or Lorraine by phone for further dates. Many hands needed for

    completion date of Oct 30.

    2. Judith Anderson looking for a sponsor for her seahorse. Contact her if

    you know of any business or person who might be interested.

    3. Exhibit at SWFL Community Foundation, Receiving November 1, 2013.

    (Prospectus to be prepared shortly.) There is plenty of space especially

    for wall pieces that can hang from a wire. 2-D artists are encouraged to

    bring the maximum of 5 pieces. 3D artists will need to provide pedestals.

    f you have extra pedestals please bring them also. Pedestals at Coconut

    Point a possibility. We would like to have a good showing at this ALL

    9. Assistant for Standards will be Sue Archer. Will help keep Stand

    records.

    10. Publicity: Angela reported about Morning Blend, Faceb

    information about von Liebig show. Budget accepted which will inc

    a picture postcard of our spring events inviting interior decorators to

    shows. Happenings Magazine will have a 1/2 - 3/4 page ad with our

    to April shows listed. Angela would be happy to advertise your eve

    STANDARDS UPDATE:Our next standards review will be Saturday, October 12, 2013, beginningat 10:30 AM at CCAS. Information regarding the exact rooms will bedetermined closer to the date. In order to go through standards, you

    must be a Guild member in good standing for at least three (3) months,

    you must have attended at least two (2) business meetings, and you

    must have volunteered with the Guild during the calendar year you

    wish to go through standards or during the four months prior to the

    standards review date.

    You must let Jacqui Smith ([email protected]; 239-772-4154)know that you wish to sit for standards at least two weeks prior to the

    receptions the following Friday. This will greatly help avoid conf

    with other receptions and events. Remember, in order to participathe Gallery, you must be a member of the Guild for three monthsyou must attend two business meetings. Royal Shell on Sanibel has chosesponsor the Guilds seahorse at the $5,000 level, which means they our seahorse when the project is complete or they can donate it tohospital. Please like their Facebook page. Many thanks toHarrington of Royal Shell and Jack Thomas of A Seahorse Dreammaking this happen! Thanks to our design team, Toni Ory and FranGerson, and to Dee Cooper for picking up our seahorse and donathe use of her house for storage and decorating purposes! Deallowing us to work inside her house so we have an air conditiospace to work in! This means that from September 22 until Octobewe will essentially be invading her home repeatedly and trashingfoyer and living room! This is a sacrifice that goes above and beyondcall of duty!!!

    Royal Shell has requested we use their palette and incorporate seassimilar to the one in the logo. Work has started and the seahorse mbe completed by October 30th. We will deliver our seahorses to AnCollision Center in Ft. Myers where they will be applying four coaautomotive sealant to all of the seahorses. Please like their Facebpage.

    A huge thank you to our team of artists who are working on project! When work began on September 22, we encounteredenormous problem when we discovered our seahorses were covwith a primer that prevented glue from sticking. We spent the bepart of the day removing the primer with sandpaper and dremparticularly nasty job! Thank you to Naldyne Light, Lisa Tully, ZdFiala, and Renee Farr for doing more than their fair share of that nwork! Meanwhile work continued inside by Jeanne Kostrub, Toni Dale Eulitz, Francine Gerson, and Dee Cooper, who organized mateand cut up glass.     The Seahorses will be showcased at the Harborside Event Center indowntown Ft. Myers on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 5:30 - 8:30

    All artists, sponsors and the public are invited. There will berefreshments, a cash bar, music, and an exhibit of seahorses decorated byschool children and hospital patients, which will be for sale. Theseahorses will be on exhibit inside Harborside and at select locations intown and elsewhere. They will remain on public display at variouslocations. The Gala Dinner, Auction and Silent Auction will be March 7,

    at the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa. Sponsors receivespecific numbers of tickets and tickets will also be for sale. Prices havenot yet been determined. A portion of the ticket price and auctionresults will go to A Seahorse Dream/Golisano Children's Hospital.

    Ding Darlings Upcycle Art Festival is April 26 & 27, 2014 . We enjoyedhaving Birgie Vertesch, the Executive Director of the Refuge, at our

    September meeting, and we learned a lot about the event. If you are anYour work must consist of 60% recycled

    materials. THE JURYING FEE OF $30 WILL BE WAIVED FOR GUILDIndicate on your application that you are a Guild member. It

    will be possible for two artists to share a table. If you are interested in

    sharing, please let Lorraine Capps know. Further information can be

    found at www.dingdarlingsociety.org/upcycleartfest. Please help spread

    the word about this event, especially if you know of artists who work

    in this field.

    The Guild has purchased our own portable raku kiln!

    Angela Aradia found a fantastic deal this summer on a raku kiln, and

    has refurbished it. Now well be able to demo raku anywhere! As Angelapointed out, new member Mark Harris is a retired firefighter, so if weget a little carried away, he can put out the fire!!! Angela will give a raku

    The 5th Annual Downtown Fort Myers Saturday Art Fair:Downtown Fort Myers Saturday Art Fair is looking for vibrant,accomplished artists to set up in Downtown, Fort Myers, to sell theworks they create. Artists will set up on the First Street sidewalks.Acceptable works include fine art, jewelry, ceramics, designer wear, andfine crafts. Prints from original works are also acceptable. Art vendors

    will be placed on the sidewalk at prominent businesses on First Street

    starting at Jackson Street and ending at Dean Street. Art vendors wigiven a 9 foot long by 3 foot wide space on the sidewalk. Vendorsand presentation space must be approved by the Saturday Art Committee jurying committee.The Saturday Art Fair is held the second Saturday of each mostarting in October and continuing through April, from 10 AM to 5 The 2013 to 2014 Schedule:The fee to Artists for a spot on the sidewalk will be:1 Month - $60; 2 Months - $110; 3 Months - $150; 4 Months - $180.Sign up for ALL $200 or Bargain Priced at less than $29 per month Payment is due before October 12, 2013.     We will be partnering with the Alliance for a day of art demos onMore details will be distributed soon, but we

    are excited about this endeavor. Members who volunteer to demo willbe able to sell their work at the same time. This will be held inconjunction with the Alliances Green Market, so there will be a largenumber of people in attendance. We are hoping to have our businessmeeting after the event on the Alliance grounds in the EdwardsBuilding. We need to think of a good name for this event. Some initialthoughts are Made by Handand The Art of Fine Craft. Please put yourcreative thinking caps on! Many thanks to Rose Young, our AllianceChair, for her hard work in this regard!

    The first Craft Bash meeting will be held on October10. While it is not necessary for volunteers to attend this meeting, itshows you how far in advance the work begins! We will need a largenumber of volunteers to help with all aspects of this event. Please sayyes to June Bennett and her committee members when they ask foryour help! We will need teachers, assistants, floaters, ticket sellers, hosts,raffle workers, etc. Its a fun day and a great way to get yourvolunteering in for 2014!! Craft Bash is scheduled for Sunday, January 26,

    4PM.is our new Recruiting Chair

    since Trudy Edlebeck has stepped down. Trudy will stay on as amember of this important committee, and we need additional members.The committee will call and email potential new members and will

    distribute Guild information and membership brochures. The job alsoinvolves attendance at certain events such as the Alliances Fall for theArtswhere information about the Guild is distributed. The Guild hasboilerplate emails and letters that can be used, and the brochure isscanned and can be easily attached to emails. Guild members can assistby obtaining contact information of potential new members. Creativeways to find new members can be explored such as Facebook and otherinternet tools. Involvement with the Co-op Gallery at Coconut Pointwill be helpful as many fine crafts artists have mistakenly joined otherart leagues where their work is not as valued and understood as itwould be in the Guild.

    This position has been languishingfor far too long. We are missing out on valuable funds that we could beputting to good use! The Advertising Committee will use the phoneand/or email to solicit ads for our web site and newsletter. Themembership could be instrumental in providing ideas for potentialadvertisers. We have a flyer that could be utilized which outlines thecosts of our ads. Once we have more advertisers, there will also be theneed to keep track of their renewal dates. Please consider advertising

    Advertising in the Yearbook is $45. Jim Sobel has been workingdeveloping a process that will help the Advertising Chair Committee get started. The Board will assist in any way possibldevelop this committee.

    Buddy System: Established members who are active in the Guildassigned to a new member and make themselves available to explaifacets of Guild activities, answer all questions and concerns, sit new members during meetings, and generally help them becinformed and feel comfortable as quickly as possible. Phyllis has a of people to pull from when new members join. Please let her knoyoud like to participate.

    March Art Council Meeting: We are co-hosting the March Art CouMeeting with CCAS on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 9:30 AM 1:00We have a conflict with our reception for our Marco Island ExhArt on the EdgeOf the Gulf, which is the same day from 5:30 7Because we will have to split our resources that day, we will nvolunteers to help with the Art Council meeting as well as the Mreception. While we do not have to provide all of the food and wfor the reception, they have asked us to help. Our Art Council DeleNaldyne Light, and Phyllis Rieser are working on this and will negroup of people to help them.

    FRIENDSHIP MEETINGS:Friendship meetings are our way of providing more opportunities foto get together in a relaxed, social setting so that we might get to knone another better.     the Art Councils web site, newsletters, and brochure for other artleagues exhibits that are open to all Art Council members.

    The proper way to send emails to large groups of people is to put the

    email addresses in the bcc section and address the email to yourself. This

    protocol has been in place for some time, but many people do not know

    about it. This prevents others from easily obtaining large numbers of

    addresses. Many of us are concerned about internet privacy, and are

    tired of finding emails in our inboxes that we would rather not see.

    Also, it makes printing emails more efficient. Please do this in thefuture, including Guild emails.
