Hey Folks, Happy Fall! If you are one of the lucky ones to own a motorcycle, then you are probably just as happy as we are about the cooling temperatures! The cooler weather gives me an extra step in my stride because the humidity is lower and I don't get as tired from the stifling heat. That is the perfect recipe for a great motorcycle ride. If you need accessories, parts or service to get your scooter on the road, you will find businesses inside this issue to help get you going and looking great and riding again! We

don't believe motorcycle season ever ends because there is always something to do, whether riding or tuning your ride or polishing it or doing some much needed maintenance. The business owners in this issue look forward to providing you with outstanding service so you will return repeatedly. It is important to us to let them know you saw their ad in our magazine. We appreciate your assistance.

Last month, Randy and I had the fortunate opportunity to take a much needed vacation. We chose Panama City Beach, FL because it is the closest beach to us and we wanted to stick our toes in the sand. While there, we visited Panama City Beach Harley-Davidson and met a great group of folks from Wildcat Harley-Davidson H.O.G. Chapter in London, KY. They were nice enough to take a photo with

me (below). We look forward to visiting their chapter soon!

My story begins, as many do, with a mission, a mission to find the best of both worlds. My scoot of choice is a 2014 Harley-

Davidson Dyna Street Bob. In keeping with the bare bones theme of this type of ride, I wanted to give it the low slung look it deserved; one worthy of the “Bobber” badge. I started my quest on the internet, researching different companies, products and reading countless posts on suspension forums. One main method to this query was to replace the stock shock with a shorter aftermarket version. This solution definitely gave me the look I was wanting…but to achieve the look I wanted, I was going to have to place my spine on the sacrificial altar of the road gods. As for two-up riding…forget about it.

Then, I came across a possible solution: Air ride technology courtesy of Legend Suspensions. It sounded too good to be true; the slammed look I was searching for AND the performance to eat up the hair-pins while providing the comfort that will allow your backside to outlast even the largest of gas tanks. I was skeptical, to say the least. Ok, this is not some cheap-jack conversion from automotive shocks. Nor is it a backyard DIY setup that is going to leave you stranded on the side of the road. Legend is made in the USA which began 15 years ago as a motorcycle centered suspension company offering a product specifically designed for your particular ride and not a “one size fits all”. I ordered the fully adjustable LEGEND AERO-A’s. This particular model allows you to adjust rebound damping, without any special tools, to your specific needs and riding style.

With superfast delivery, I began my rear suspension

project. The quality of the components was excellent and the fit and finish are unsurpassed. The kit has been extremely well thought out and the instructions were simple and easy to follow. Everything is included to complete the perfect install, right down to an air tube cutter and “factory finish” push button handlebar mounted control switch. The wiring and air supply is “literally” plug and play.

Now for the true test…will it live up to its lofty expectations I had set for it? The slammed look…OH, YEA! You actually have the option to ride it fully compressed, although I wouldn’t recommend it. Pumped up is a completely different story. It felt as though every road that I had previously committed every imperfection to memory had been beautifully repaved. I found myself looking for bumps to ride over. The real test began as I started to lean into curves that I used to back off on. Can you say, “Bolt-on confidence”? I was so impressed that I couldn’t wait to see how it was going to perform two-up. I convinced my reluctant, (and equally skeptical), better half to take a ride. It did not disappoint. The suspension performed as well two-up, as it did solo. With the fully adjustable “on-the-go” controls, my spouse was one happy camper again. Adjustments are as easy as the turn of a knob or push of a button. Had I entered another dimension,

Legend Suspension-The Best of Both Worlds?By Chris Cooper

another world? Yes! Welcome to the world of “Quality” suspension…where you truly get what you pay for.

At an MSRP of $1,850, (for the high- end Aero-A’s), they are up there by most budgetary standards, however, this writer believes that is a small price to pay for having it all. You will fall in love with riding all over again. Besides, think of how much money you’ll save on chiropractic bills. To find out more, contact Legend at: www.legendsuspensions.com

After 13 years, the images of September 11, 2001 still haunt our minds as our

military and intelligence agencies continue the fight to keep our country safe. Knoxville, Tennessee was the site for one of many 9-11 Remembrance Rides around our great country, but none more emotional and memorable. The ceremony included the National Anthem, a 21-Gun Salute, TAPS played and so much more. Preacher Morgan Clough commenced with getting the riders pumped up for the ride and to remember the sacrifices made that

day and still continuing today. Mayor Tim Burchett and Brian Caron of the Steelhorse Law Firm gave some words of encouragement.

As the ceremony played out, the riders remembered and there was not a dry eye to be seen. Grand Marshal Head UT Basketball Coach Donnie Tyndall was set to lead out the riders with Fire and Police sirens blaring. Each rider carried a handlebar hanging card contained the photo of someone lost during the New York 9-11 tragedy. The police and helicopter escorted ride ended at

Cotton Eyed Joes under another huge American Flag. “I am proud to have ridden in this event and will never forget that day or the lives lost”, said Angel Rogers.

Just when you think manufacturers have made all the advancements in helmet technology, someone

comes along and makes one that breaks the mold and heads into the future of motorcycle riding. SKULLY has begun production of the AR-1 motorcycle helmet, the first vertically integrated smart HUD helmet for consumers. It includes a revolutionary Heads-Up Display system that displays information approximately 10 feet in front of the rider. The AR-1 helmet features a near 180-degree rearview camera, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, smart phone pairing and voice control making it the world’s smartest motorcycle helmet.

Marcus Weller, CEO and Founder of SKULLY, attended the University of Minnesota where he assisted research on Intelligent

Transportation Systems and developed his lifelong passion for Human Factors Engineering and Industrial Psychology. He is a motorcycle fanatic with an obsession for human-centered technology and design. A motorcycle accident inspired him to found SKULLY in 2013. In 2011 Weller averted his eyes to read a street sign when the vehicle in front of him slammed on his brakes, resulting in a crash. Whilst recovering,

the blueprint for what would eventually become the AR-1 began to take shape as Weller realized a Heads-Up Display helmet that could have prevented such an accident didn’t actually exist. Within months, Weller and his team created the SKULLY Synapse™ technology platform that enhances awareness of its users by linking advanced heads up display optics to an intelligent network of camera, sensors and microprocessors.

His brother, Mitchell Weller, VP of Business Operations and Co-Founder, shares his brother’s passion for

motorcycling. He served in the U.S. Army, holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota and enjoys getting his hands dirty working on motorcycles and cars. With over twenty years of combined riding experience, the Weller brothers are deeply passionate about enhancing motorcycle safety through technology.“We are doing something so few companies have the opportunity to do… we are changing an industry and forcing the world to adapt. The AR-1 is our little dent in the universe. The AR-1 will introduce a new era in intelligent transportation by combining

optics, intelligent vehicle systems and connectivity to deliver unprecedented levels of safety,” said Marcus.

Features of the SKULLY AR-1 include:

• SKULLY SYNAPSE (TM) Heads Up Display system

• Automatic Infinitely variable focal distance

• Visual turn-by-turn GPS navigation

• Near 180 degree ultra wide angle rearview and blind spot camera

• Bluetooth pairing to smart phone with musicWen

• Internet connectivity via smart phone

in the Wearable Technology category. SKULLY was also named one of The CNN Ten Inventions, which recognizes new inventions in technology and related fields with big, game-changing goals.

Cultural Acceptance

I just returned from a mission's trip to Honduras. I came back once

again, thankful for a nation that has the infrastructure America has and for the social advancements women have made in our society. It was easy to see that it was not culturally acceptable for women to ride their own bikes in Honduras. I only saw a couple of women driving mopeds in a smaller town in the mountains. Because of some of the crazy traffic, I can see why they wouldn't want to drive in the city! But it made me think again about our cultural acceptance.

Cultural acceptance creates a momentum which is what we are now experiencing as women in the motorcycle industry. First the industry went through the mainstreaming of motorcycling for all men everywhere, not just gang wannabe's and the renegades of life, but professionals, business people, and men of all ages began to take up the sport.

Riding for women is now experiencing the same phenomenon. More and more women are riding because more and more women are riding; it's just that simple. You are no longer looked upon as a she/man just because you ride a motorcycle. After all, it's just a bicycle with an engine and most of us girls grew up riding a bicycle. Grandmas are riding, soccer moms are riding, and women of all socioeconomic backgrounds are discovering the joy of riding. The industry is beginning to shift with the trends by providing equipment, apparel and education for the women riders. Just as years ago it became more

and more acceptable for a woman to drive a car; it's becoming more and more acceptable for women to ride a bike. And in the process women are discovering that they can do it, and not only that, they love it! Their enthusiasm is contagious and spills over to other women.

My prediction is that within the next ten to fifteen years it will actually be more unusual to see a woman on the back of a

motorcycle than behind the bars, and if she is on the back it's because she wants to be, not because she has to be. Today in our society it is nearly unheard of for a woman not to be able to drive a car and not too many decades ago, it was unheard of and unacceptable. Cultural acceptance changes everything.

ROAR Remembers 9/11 with Custom Paint Scheme

ROAR painted this bike for one of its customers who was a NY fire fighter. The ghosting in of the American flag on the fairing was a last-minute decision, but truly completes the design. All of the gold leaf was applied by hand and every swirl in the gold leaf was also done by hand. Fern Gadd, our airbrush artist, did an amazing job on this bike.

Downtown Columbus, Georgia got the roar of motorcycles

that came to enjoy day and nightlife in its historic downtown. Hundreds of bikes lined the streets where vendors and businesses were waiting to take care of their every need. It was a tremendous turnout. The Southern Cruisers of Columbus, Georgia put this free event on each year for their charity of choice, Our House, Carpenter’s Way Ranch for Boys and Arabella Home for Girls. “A big thanks to all the Bands, Band of Thieves, Spent, Vinyl Radio, Zero260, and Haywire; also ROCK 103, Yuengling and all our other sponsors and of course all volunteers”, they stated on their website.

Despite the heat the CMT/Abate sponsored Southern Thunder

Rally was a success and fun was had by all that attended. The bike games went off well and fun was had even for the spectators, especially the “Honey I’m Home” game. The Smith Wilson Stones River Charter put on the bike games and did a great job. The bike show had some sweet rides entered. The bands were great and all 4 bands, TKO, Myth, Lost Dog & Ass Backwards played both Friday and Saturday night. There was karaoke put on by Glenn & Sharon Stout from Music City Charter of CMT/Abate for the singers in attendance. The rain both nites didn’t dampen any spirits. The rally was put on by 4 charters of CMT/

Smokin' Joe's Bar-B-QueMy secret is out. I'm in love with

Smokin' Joe's Bar-B-Que located in Townsend, TN. I don't know if it was the smoked prime rib or my waitress Cheyenne that stole my heart. I had heard about the prime rib from Club Foot Chuck. It's not on the menu, so ask, and it is only available on Saturdays. It is the best! My sides were baked beans and slaw, which were very good. Start off with the homemade hush puppies, they are very tasty.

Little Mike had the half rack of ribs at $15.49 with baked beans and potato salad. I tried to steal a rib to taste but he threatened my life. He liked them that much. Smokin' Joe's offers five sauces: mild, spicy, hot, mustard and smoke which is extremely hot. These are secret homemade recipes.

Smokin' Joe's is closed during the winter so you better enjoy them while you can. I've got to head back to try the ribs and see my heartthrob. Give Joe a call at 865-448-6881.

As fall rolls in, some of you guys jump on your motorcycle every morning to go to work as your

sole means of transportation, while others use your bike as stress relief every weekend. Either way, your motorcycle is a release and part of your enjoyment of life. Even if you ride it every day, getting together with your friends is one of the main reasons you ride a bike. For a lot of us, riding in a group with your friends is one of the main reasons you own a motorcycle. Group riding can be one of the greatest things about owning a bike, but it also comes with added responsibility about being safe for you and your friends. While riding in a group can mean safety in numbers, it comes with a set of risks if not done correctly and safely. You need to keep in mind the experience level of the riders around you. When you meet a group for a ride, you may not know all the riders, but the first thing you need to do, is organize the ride. This can be as informal as you all chatting for a few minutes before jumping on your bikes, or as formal as organizing a ride led by police personnel. Either way, you need to lay down roles and ground rules. If it is not an escorted ride, you should have a quick meeting. Discuss things like the route, discuss hand signals, and assign a lead rider for the group. Also assign a tail, a sweep, someone who's going to ride in the back. Make sure the sweep rider in the back has a cellphone in case a rider has a mechanical or tire issue that leads to some of the group falling behind. Avoid riding in side-by-side formations. You need to make sure that you are in a staggered formation. This is not only for your safety, but in most states, it's the law. When riding in the Southeast, most states will not allow you to ride side-by-side. Regardless of the safety factor, it will simply give a police officer a reason to pull you over. Also, when you come to an intersection, if you are going to come to a stop, tighten your formation to take up less room. If you are on an escorted ride and you come to an intersection, don't take the escort for granted. Do not assume that people coming through the intersection are paying attention, so keep your attention level on high. Remember, whether you are riding alone or with a group of a hundred, when on a bike, you always gotta stay sharp. It is the reason you enjoy riding, so don't take it for granted. I know we sponsor and ride in huge rides during the year, but just because you are riding with a hundred of your closest friends, it doesn't mean you can forget about safety. Sometimes, when you are in a huge group, it is the easiest time to forget about safety. If you are in a large group, break your safety group into smaller groups with the people around you. Make sure you know the 20 bikes around you, and their experience level. Fall is here in the southeast, so whether you are heading to Myrtle for the Fall Rally, hitting the Dragon in Tennessee, or cruising the back roads of Georgia, Steelhorse Law wants to keep you safe. Come see us the next time you are at an event or if you ever have any questions give us a call, or visit us at www.steelhorselaw.com.
