SEFP is an Sustainable Energy Financing Project

The SEFP project has been implemented by The World Bank

in year 2007 for the Pacific Island Countries (PIC)

The SEFP program commitment was for 5 years from (2007

– 2012)

The commitment period of the guarantee was extended for

another 5 years from (2012 – 2017)

We are grateful and thankful to the World Bank’s extension

on the commitment period

Page 27: SOUTH – SOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING EXCHANGE 03-10-17 …

SEFP is set up and channeled through approved Participating

Financial Institutions (PFI) availing 50% partial guarantees to

encourage financial institutions to invest through lending for

renewable and energy efficiency investments

SEFP was developed for 5 Pacific Island Countries, Fiji, Papua New

Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Marshal Islands but is only

active in Fiji

ANZ Bank in PNG is the Fund Manager of the Risk Sharing Fund (RFI)

Currently the Fiji Development Bank and ANZ Fiji are the

Participating Financial Institutions (PFI)

Page 28: SOUTH – SOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING EXCHANGE 03-10-17 …

Through the SEFP, financial assistance in the form of a loan helps

spread out the upfront cost into more manageable amounts.

Within a few months or years the loan is paid off and the customer

owns their renewable energy system or energy efficiency equipment's

and is saving money

The 50% guarantee assistance provides not only a level of comfort to

financers, but it also reduces the security requirement on the part of

the borrower as an encouragement to take on renewable and

sustainable energy projects which will not only help reduce our high

fuel import bill but also help reduce our carbon footprint.

CBS started its operation in year 2006 in Fiji, getting loanwithout collateral was challenging or not possible. InitialInvestment from shareholder(s) for the business operation.

There were few small to medium projects we started with andwe used our own cash flow to finance those small projects

We faced difficulty in getting loans approved from commercialbanks for our projects and for inventory. The requirement was toprovide 100% collaterals for any loans taken. Cash, property orother sorts.

The projects undertaken in those years were renewable energyhowever there was no sustainable financing support available toSME’s.

Page 37: SOUTH – SOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING EXCHANGE 03-10-17 …

SEFP was officially launched in Fiji on 10th July, 2008

CBS came to know about this new SEFP financing Project through

information provided by Fiji Department of Energy and

information gathered from Website

CBS was the first company who started to use financial support

from SEFP through the help of Department of Energy

Our first loan under SEFP program was in year 2009

CBS has taken financing from both ANZ and FDB bank under SEFP

SEFP has supported us for past 8 years with most of our financing

needs
