RULES AND BYLAWS Jon Haag

Commodore’s Comments Who threw the switch? Yesterday was 88°! Summer has come to SMYC. The harbor is full and the beer is cold…nothing could be much better. Speaking of a good time for all, our float to Port Washington for Pirate Fest was an extremely fun event. There were 11 boats representing SMYC and the horseshoe was full. Thanks to Katy and Steve Steinhaus for putting the Sunday breakfast together with the help of all our boaters. I also want to thank Cheryl Rybka and Mary Jo Haag for putting together “Splash The Boats” Celebration. The band was awesome and there was a whole bunch of dancing going on. We had a great deal of attendance with the new members and by the looks of things all had a great time. Thank you very much to Tara and Tom Billingsley for putting the Blessing of the Fleet together. We appreciate you! This is another example of new members stepping up and getting involved. To other newer/older members, if you are interested on throwing an event during the year, please contact Cheryl Rybka. We are always looking for more reasons to gather and have a good time. I also want to thank all the members who have been involved with the Grounds Committee in sprucing up the Club. Harry Brunette and his awesome crew have done a great job. The place looks great! Finally, we are in the summer season and we have a lot of members in and out enjoying the summer. As you all know we are limited in parking space. We have a section in the SMYC Handbook that talks about the policy. I have included the section for your review.

SUMMER PARKING

Areas designated for summer parking are as follows:

1. Outer Wall Parking (Far East parking area)

a. Parking on outer wall is permitted in designated area only, on a first

come first serve basis.

b. Only one car per boat is allowed to park on the outer wall and during

peak times is restricted to occupants of the outer wall.

c. All other parking, along the outer wall is limited to fifteen (15)

minutes (loading/ unloading).

2. All Other Parking Areas

a. Regular and Family Members are limited to two vehicles during

daylight hours.

b. Associate Members are limited to one vehicle.

c. Junior Members are limited to one vehicle.

d. Designated parking for Members on vacation is along the West wall.

e. There is no parking allowed directly in front of the gas dock area or

on the gas dock itself. f. There is no parking in front of the fuel storage filler pipe cover. See you at the Club.

Membership Update

With Bryan Gahan’s wizardry in analyzing and determining what boats can be berthed best together to create even more space, we managed to squeeze a few more boats into our already full harbor this month. We also had several new Associate members join the SMYC family. *** Lanny Goodman & Ellen Wysocki joined as associates at the end of April. They are long time South Milwaukee residents and have enjoyed

watching the fun SMYCers have together on Facebook. ***Mike & Tia Esser joined as Associates mid-May. Tia is the niece-in-law of Rob & KiKi Kilman and Mike has worked as an appraiser with KiKi. They & their two little ones, Burkley & Ramsi, will likely be seen with… *** Mike Luczak (who) joined as an Associate member that same night. Mike recently joined the SMPD and is the nephew of Rob & KiKi Kilman and grandson of Kenneth & Sandra Kilman. *** Justin & Paige Hans are transferring from Associate to Family Membership status with the purchase of their 31’ ChrisCraft they picked up in Michigan on a midnight cruise with the aid of Bob & Kristi Veres & Sam Krueger. If you get a chance, ask them for the full/funny story. ;) *** Adam Hock transferred his Junior membership status to Full Member at the end of May and is another third generation SMYCer. Steve &

Sharyn (mom & dad) have been full members (Steve also matriculated from Junior status) for many years. Adam doesn’t have a bo at yet, but is active in the Club as one of the Junior Sailing Instructors. ***Holly Moshinski joined as an Associate member mid-May and is the daughter of Dan & Heidi Moshinski. Holly has been joining her mom and dad for family outings at SMYC for several years. *** Dan & Melissa Milne joined as Associate members at the end of May. They are also members of Harbor Light Yacht Club. Look for them as transients throughout the summer. *** Craig and Mariann Noyes also signed up as Associate members at the end of May. They, along with the Milne family, plan to visit the SMYC harbor as transients throughout the summer and take advantage of SMYCs hospitality.

***Debbie Cooke and her soon to be husband, Bob Larson, found the boat of their dreams at the beginning of June. Their 27’ We llcraft Martinique will be sharing the pier w/ Justin & Paige Hans out at the end of our harbor. They plan to bring it in mid-June after the boat has its bottom painted. Debbie & Bob joined as Family members. As always, if you have any questions about your SMYC membership or have a referral, please contact me at [email protected] with the subject heading “SMYC Inquiry” or at 414.418.5971. If I can’t help you out or don’t know the answer, I will point you in the right direction. -KiKi Kilman

Spiced-Rubbed Salmon

Serves 6

Make the spice mix ahead and you’ll be ready to season your catch!

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon grated lemon peel

1-1/2 teaspoons ground cumin

3/4 teaspoon salt, optional

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

6 salmon fillets (4 ounces each)

In a small bowl or sandwich-size Ziploc, combine the first 6 ingredients. Rub over salmon fillets.

Moisten a paper towel with cooking oil; using tongs, lightly coat the grill rack. Place salmon on grill rack, skin side

down. Grill, covered, over medium heat 10-12 minutes or until fish just begins to flake easily with a fork.

Tips:

For extra moist fish: drizzle fish with olive oil before rubbing with spice mixture.

Recipe may be baked in an 11x7in. baking dish coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake, uncovered, for

15-20 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork.

Spice mixtures with brown sugar tend to clump together. Gently break apart the clumps before seasoning

your catch.
