Commodore’s Comments
Well thanks to Ray Hollnagel’s roasting at our last Installa-
tion of Officers dinner. Ray did a great job as Master of Cere-
monies. I have had to research my previous February Com-
modore Comments to make sure I don’t repeat themes…
sometimes regurgitated comments aren’t so bad. Not to men-
tion it is easier to plagiarize! Our Installation Dinner was another elegant
evening, thanks to Cheryl Rybka and Mary Jo Haag. It was a great time
had by all. We are on the Installation Dinner swing with attending 5th
Street Yacht Club on January 30th and Harbor Lite Yacht Club on Feb-
ruary 6th. I really do enjoy going and getting reacquainted with our sister
Clubs. For me it also gets me thinking about boating and just exactly how
much stuff I have to get done. Better yet the thought of relaxing on the Boat
will help me get through the next couple of months.
Speaking of Boating – Pier Bidding is March 5th starting at NOON sharp.
Pier Bidding is the start date of our boating season. I have a feeling this is
going to be an exciting one based on our new members who are looking to
grab that perfect slip. Fleet Captain Bryan Gahan has the pier board up in
the bar area. Come on down grab your favorite cocktail and figure out your
perfect spot…then you probably will need to get another cocktail and figure
out your next desirable spot…and then – well you get the picture. Pier Bid-
ding is one of our premier events. I think the lead up to the day and the
strategizing of the board is incredible fun. New members seek out Bryan to
get the scoop on how this is run. We will have food available during the
event thanks to Tom and Meg Ciurlik.
There has been a change at the Bar Manager position. I want to thank
Mickey Nowak for his dedication and effort during his tenure. Paul
Mozejewski has stepped up to grab the rudder. Our Club is about volun-
teers and truly is what makes this Club so impressive. The assistance we
receive from our membership is what keeps our cost down and will sustain
us for years to come.
Think about this: as of February 10th there are 80 short days until May 1st.
We are rapidly approaching the beginning of boating season. The activity
leading up to Launch will be invigorating at the Club. Come down and get
involved with the opening up of our harbor. If you don’t know where to get
involved; let me know or a Board Member or a Committee Chair. Watch
your emails for “hours” opportunity. We will have much to do over the next
80 days!
See you at the Club,
Jon Haag

Cooking with Coleen
I have been asked to share some of my recipes that you may enjoy preparing at home or on your boat. As a former food editor
for Taste of Home magazine, I love to cook and more importantly, I truly enjoy sharing that love of cooking with others.
Slow–Cooked Meat Loaf
4 servings
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
3 sliced day-old bread, cubed
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
1/4 cup salsa
8-10 medium carrots cut into 1-inch chunks
8-10 small red potatoes
In a bowl, beat egg and milk with a fork. Stir in bread
cubes, onion, celery, salt and pepper. Add the beef and
mix gently. Shape into a round loaf. Place in a 5-qt. slow
cooker. Spread salsa on top of loaf. Arrange carrots around
loaf. Peel a strip around the center of each potato; place
potatoes over carrots. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour.
Reduce heat to low; cover and cook 7-8 hours longer or
until no pink remains in the meat or a thermometer reads
160*F and the vegetables are tender.
Tips:
Mild Mexican Meatloaf: Replace the salt with 2 - 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning mix.
For Easy Removal: cut three 25-in. x 3in. strips of heavy-duty foil; crisscross so they resemble spokes of a wheel. Place
strips on the bottom and up the sides of slow cooker. Coat strips with cooking spray. Place meat loaf in the center of
the strips. When meat loaf is cooked, use the foil strips as handles to remove to a platter.
Warm up leftovers, if there are any, for a meatloaf sandwich the next day.
