V ic Allsop, who has been appointed a Canon of Leicester Cathedral, will be installed in his new role on Sunday October 25 at 3.00 pm. Vic is the County Ecumenical Officer, a member of the Bishops Council, Treasurer of the City of Leicester Deanery and very much involved with St Mary de Castros Church, Leicester, including chairing the Save our Spirefunding campaign. I mention these because, locally, we tend to think of his longstanding dedicated service to All Saints Church and the community of Hoby and more recently, as the Chair of the South West Framland Group Council and our group administrator, and for being the glue holding the Church together in these three benefices while we have no vicar. Vics appointment is a very well deserved honour and I am sure that the Cathedral will benefit from his wise counsel just as we do. Malcolm Britton Vacancy news: After a long and tortuous process the advert for a new team rector for the South West Framland Parish will at last be publicised this month and, all being well, shortlisting and interviewing will take place this autumn. As soon as a team rector is appointed we hope that more rapid progress will be made to appoint a team vicar so that we are up to strength. Meanwhile the Church continues to thrive and it is particularly pleasing to record the number of baptisms taking place this year. Malcolm Britton Community Lunch: The next event will be at The Bowls Club, Melton Mowbray, on Monday September 21, 12.00 for 12.30 pm. A big thank youto all who volunteer to drive for the community lunch. If you would like to be a volunteer driver do please get in touch with one of the committee. Congratulations! Gold in LA: Aiden Leighton has recently returned from taking part in the World Special Olympics in Los Angeles. Michelle Obama opened the Games for the 7,000 athletes from 140 countries taking part. There were 115 athletes from GB competing in a variety of sports. Aiden was one of four GB tennis players.

In his division Aiden played in men’s singles, and in mixed doubles.

In both tournaments Aiden won a gold medal!. It was very exciting for us receiving this news in the UK. You may have seen /heard Aiden on ITV news (before and after the games), and on Radio Leicester. Thank you to all those who assisted with gifts in 2014 to raise the funds he needed to go to LA.
