7620-20001 Leadership in Supervision: Creating Environments for Professional Growth

Course description This two-day course presents the supervisor with the basic leadership skills and tools needed to perform effectively in the fire and EMS environment. The course includes concepts related to a successful transition to supervisory and leadership roles, including concepts of adaptive leadership; change management; active followership; effective communication, including difficult conversations and advocacy-inquiry based dialogue; ethics; authority; power; decision-making; and active engagement through development of a personal plan.

Selection criteria The primary target audience for this course are those individuals who are at the first line level of supervision. For purposes of student selection, first line level is considered to be those at the Company Officer or Unit (fire prevention, fire education, communications, EMS, etc.) Supervisor level. More specifically primary selection criteria are as follows:

First line supervisors in fire and emergency medical services organizations. Fire and emergency medical services personnel due for promotion/appointment to a first line

supervisory position within 18 months. Fire and emergency medical services personnel who are regularly assigned acting supervisory

positions.

NOTE: Fire and EMS personnel currently enrolled in the National Fire Academy Managing Officer Program will be provided priority selection. The secondary target audiences are fire and EMS personnel at the first line management level (Chief Officer or above). Students at this level may be given consideration on a space available basis.

Prerequisites ICS-100-level and ICS-200-level training. Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463, available through NFA Online. Chief's signature attests the applicant has completed required training.

7146-20001 Incident Command System and Resource Management for the Fire Service

Course description This two-day course will provide students with an understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) and resource management for the fire service and their application in emergency and non-emergency situations.

This course addresses the need for an ICS, an overview of the structure and flexibility of ICS, an understanding of the command skills necessary to function effectively in an ICS structure, and the need to effectively manage your resources.

This course meets the requirements of ICS-100 and ICS-200.

Selection criteria All first responders with responsibilities to use, deploy, implement and/or function within ICS and resource management.

7114-20001 Incident Safety Officer

Course description This two-day course examines the Safety Officer's role at emergency responses. A specific focus on operations within an Incident Command System (ICS) as a Safety Officer is a main theme. Response to all-hazards types of situations will be emphasized.

Selection criteria Individuals who have a Safety Officer responsibility at emergency operation situations. Individuals attending this course should have a working knowledge of ICS as taught by the National Fire Academy, building construction principles, hazardous materials management, applicable National Fire Protection Association guidelines, and federal regulations

Prerequisites ICS 100 level and ICS 200 level training. Preferred courses are Q462 and Q463 available through NFA Online. Chief's signature attests the applicant has completed required training. 7754-20001 EMS Functions in ICS Course description In this two-day course, students will practice use of the Incident Command System (ICS) in coordination with other public safety responders.

As a follow-up to ICS-100 and ICS-200 training, this course will present scenarios requiring responders to structure their EMS resources within the guidance of National Incident Management System ICS, as appropriate to the needs of the different incident types.

Through simulation and role-playing, students will demonstrate the implementation of EMS components in an ICS at incidents.

Pre-course assignment: Each student must take the online “IS201 Forms Course” before attending.

The student’s final grade for “EMS Functions in ICS” (EMSFICS) will be computed as follows:

Pre-course IS201, Forms Used for the Development of the Incident Action Plan (IAP), (30 points) plus Student Response Checklist and seven scenarios (up to 10 points each) equals the grade.

Selection criteria Emergency response personnel with responsibilities to implement the initial EMS functions of an ICS at incidents. Prerequisites

ICS 100 level and ICS 200 level training. Preferred courses are Q462 and Q463 available through NFA Online. Chief's signature attests the applicant has completed required training.

IS-201 forms used for the development of the Incident Action Plan. 7736-20001 Decision-Making for Initial Company Operations Course description This two-day course is designed to develop the decision-making skills needed by Company Officers (COs) to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires. Activities and scenarios used in this course are based on structure fires. With the real possibility of being the first to arrive at an incident, the CO’s initial decisions will have an impact throughout the entire incident. It is vital COs be able to make good management decisions that have a favorable impact on the eventual outcome.

In addition to a possible role as the initial Incident Commander, the CO may well be assigned a subordinate position within the Incident Command System organization. COs need to have a clear understanding of the system, the position they are assigned to, and their role in the organization if they are to function effectively and help make the system work. This course is an excellent review for experienced Company Officers. Selection criteria Incident Command System (ICS)-100-level and ICS-200-level training. Prerequisites None 7603-20001 Executive Skills Series: Exercising Leadership to Facilitate Adaptive Change

Course description This two-day course will provide skills individuals in positions of authority can use to exercise leadership when confronted with adaptive challenges. The goal of this course is for participants to develop an understanding of skills associated with exercising leadership to resolve adaptive problems, those problems where the solution is either unknown or requires significant change, or both. Selection criteria The primary target audience is fire and emergency service personnel in positions of authority (executive level officers) who have an opportunity to exercise leadership.

Note: Participants must be minimally assigned to a supervisory level position (i.e., a Company Officer).

Course description This two-day course demonstrates to students nationally recognized principles, when used appropriately, can lead to community risk-reduction programs that can measure success in local communities. This course will give students the opportunity to explore programs from communities across the United States that have been showcased at Vision 20/20 symposiums. These programs demonstrate what nationally recognized organizations identify as examples of “best practices” in community risk reduction.

At the end of the course, students will be evaluated through a 25-question multiple-choice examination. A final grade will be provided to each student. The minimum score needed to pass is 70. Selection criteria The target audience for this course includes:

Fire and emergency services personnel who help develop and deliver fire prevention and community risk-reduction programs.

Fire and emergency services staff with an interest in advancing risk-reduction efforts in their community.

Allied health and community service personnel who help develop and deliver risk-reduction programs Prerequisites

Registration Deadline: Friday, May 31, 2019 Student SID Number: A FEMA SID is required to register for and participate in any training provided by FEMA agencies. FEMA training providers’ registration systems and enrollment procedures require a valid FEMA SID. This serves as your personal identification number and merges/links/connects/combines all of your FEMA training records under one account to simplify keeping track of your FEMA training accomplishments. Programs are open to all applicants. Early registration is recommended as enrollment in each program is limited to 30 students, unless otherwise noted. Applicants must list three course choices.

Weekend Cost: $80 (nonrefundable*). This includes Friday night dinner, three meals Saturday (cookout/social, breakfast), and Sunday lunch.

* Registration is transferrable prior to June 28. Payment will be billed in advance and is due June 28.
