Travel Today can report that Andrew Harrison, currently with Air New Zealand, will take up the key, newly- created post as Helloworld’s new head of strategic partnerships; while Doug Gordon (currently with Flight Centre) has been appointed to its new land contracting manager role. Helloworld New Zealand boss Simon McKearney declined to comment further, other than to confirm the appointments. However he did say an official announcement, along with an overview of the company’s strategic plan, would come at the Helloworld trade event in Auckland next week. Travel Today understands that the three new strategic roles advertised have generated a high calibre of applicants from across the indus- try. The company’s air purchasing manager position has yet to be an- nounced. The trade is eyeing the changes at Helloworld with interest, and the ap- pointment of Gordon will no doubt raise some discussion as he makes the move from Flight Centre over to Helloworld. At the same time, some are call- ing Harrison’s appointment a clever move—and one which may help improve the sometimes tenuous re- lationship between Stella/Helloworld and the national carrier. Harrison is well-respected across the trade and successfully managed the relationship between the then Stella brands and NZ for a number of years. In the new role Harrison reports directly to McKearney and is charged with ensuring Helloworld’s relation- ship ‘with all major air and land suppliers are mutually held in the highest regard’. . . . It would house a 4.5 star hotel with some 700 rooms and apartments, taking the overall ac- commodation supply to almost 1400. Travel agents and TMCs have always been great at understand-ing the rational needs of travellers.

Traditionally the interaction tend-ed to be more supplier-centric: travellers told the agent where they wanted to go and the agent would find the content that met their needs. Today’s traveller comes armed with much more informa-tion, and expects their every whim to be anticipated and satisfied.

Fortunately, technology has allowed travel agents to keep up the pace and maintain their status as the trusted expert – blending deep knowledge of travellers’ emotional drivers with vast content, advanced search, customer profiling, personalisation tools and the ability to provide 24/7 service.

That’s where Amadeus plays a vital role at the centre of the travel ecosystem. We connect travellers with travel agencies and the en-tire travel chain. In 2016 our technology solutions will deliver an even richer retailing experience to our customers, so that you can offer the end traveller journeys that inspire and excite them.

We invite you to join us to embrace the future of travel at www.amadeus.com/blog

The latest Boeing forecast is out with the plane manufacturer predicting continued growth in aircraft demand and passenger travel for the next five years.Ongoing strong demand for new commercial airplanes in 2016 cal-culates to about USD127 billion in deliveries across the industry, says Boeing president Tim Myers. “The sustained strength of the aircraft finance markets is being driven largely by healthy aviation industry fundamentals and bal-anced supply and demand for com-mercial aircraft.” The plane maker promises airlines and lessors will continue to have access to efficient funding at attrac-tive pricing throughout 2016 as new participants enter the aircraft financ-ing industry and current participants innovate and provide more options.

. . . Pax, Loads UpPassenger traffic is growing above long-term trends and airplane utili-sation and load factors continue to rise, shows the outlook document.

“Replacement demand remains strong and global airlines are pro-ducing record operating results and profits. With these conditions prevailing, financiers continue to see commercial aircraft as a good investment and that’s resulting in good access to efficient funding for

Boeing: Market Outlook Strongour customers,” adds Boeing. The Boeing Current Aircraft Finance Market Outlook forecasts the sourc-es of financing for new commercial airplane deliveries in the coming year and the industry’s overall deliv-ery financing requirements for the next five years.

Love Is In The Air More than 160 million bouquets of flowers have been transported by LATAM Airlines Group’s cargo unit during the three weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day—the peak time for flower exports around the world. This season, LAN CARGO and its affiliates transported 26% of the region’s total flower mar-kets—at least one flower for every woman in the United States—with freighters taking off from Bo-gota, Medellin and Quito, flying mainly to the United States and Netherlands.

TK’s Aircraft MilestoneThe fleet of Turkish Airlines reached the 300th aircraft milestone with an A330-300 handed over during a ceremony in Istanbul recently. To be deployed on medium- and long-haul routes, the aircraft is fitted with ‘made in Turkey’ galleys and economy class seats.

Up g r ades are cont i nu i ng at Honolulu Airport as a growing number of Kiwi travellers head to and through the state’s airport.Later this year more than 30 au-tomated passport control kiosks

(similar to SmartGate) are set to be installed in HNL’s arrivals terminal. It’s a move that is expected to sub-stantially reduce the wait for arriv-ing international passengers. The USD1.7 million initiative is hoped to reduce the average time taken to clear passport control from 30 min-utes to 20 minutes. Travel Today understands that travel-lers who have visited the US within the last eight years will be eligible to use the machines as well as US nationals. At the same time improvements to rental car facilities, new air gates and a bathroom refurb are planned, along with the general modernisa-tion of the airport, its restaurants and concessions. The additional air gates are also hoped to reduce some of the peak time congestion at the airport.

. . . HNL TipsFor clients looking to expedite their departure from HNL, remind them that they can use Hawaiian Airlines’ international check-in kiosks (rather than joining the queue for traditional check-in). And those looking for an oasis of calm pre-flight now also have the option of the pay-per-use Plume-ria Lounge (pictured above). Casual entry is USD40pp. CLICK HERE
