GATHERING AROUND THE WORD
Prayer of Lament
God of community, these are not normal times. You made us to be in community and seek community in
order to show love and serve the people in need. We lament that we can’t see the body gathered in our
sanctuary or in sanctuaries across the globe. We cry and lament to you for your compassion to bring us
together safely soon. We plead to see a smile, yearn for an embrace, or even a firm handshake in the next
two months. O God we know you are here, there, and everywhere. We know in our hearts and minds that
you through your Holy Spirit wave the hope in Jesus Christ in this Palm Sunday. May we worship in our
homes, but not get lazy or forget the feelings that occur when the body of Christ is physically gathered.
Bless us as we worship online, in our homes, and every day, In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
Call to Worship (Psalm 108:1-6)
Our hearts, O God, are steadfast; we will sing and make music with all our soul. Awake, harp and lyre! We
will awaken the dawn. We will praise you, LORD, among the nations; we will sing of you among the
peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted,
O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth. Save us and help us with your right hand,
that those you love may be delivered.
Hymn #192 Lord, the Light of Your Love Is Shining
Lord, the light of your love is shining,
in the midst of the darkness, shining;
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us;
set us free by the truth you now bring us.
Shine on me; shine on me.
Refrain:
Shine, Jesus, shine; fill this land with the Father's glory.
Blaze, Spirit, blaze; set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow; flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.
Lord, I come to your awesome presence,
from the shadows into your radiance;
by the blood I may enter your brightness.
Search me; try me; consume all my darkness.
3
As we gaze on your kingly brightness,
so our faces display your likeness;
ever changing from glory to glory,
mirrored here may our lives tell your story.
Shine on me; shine on me.
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we confess that our faith and spiritual disciplines waver when we do not physically gather
for worship. Some of us become too comfortable in our homes not physically gathering on Sunday. We
struggle with being spiritually disciplined when we are given time to kill. We are tempted to go our own
way instead of staying connected to your word, being prayer, your worship, and the community of faith.
Forgive us, as we struggle to be in community in this time through Jesus Christ. (in silence, confess your
personal sin…) Amen.
The Font (As we hear the pouring of water into the font, help us remember the washing away of all
our sin and encourage us to live thankful and faithful lives.)
Assurance of Forgiveness.
Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.
The Passing of the Peace (share a virtual peace via emojis online, text, etc. during this part of the
service.)

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD
Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed (Traditional)
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand
Of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.

the world, the community, and our loved ones.)

Prayer of Thanksgiving with the Lord’s Prayer
Giving and protecting God, we thank you for your blessings which continue to be given to us even in
this pandemic suffering. We thank you for the support to worship and the mission of Christ that you
have given us in this time and beyond. We thank you for giving willing hearts to video the worship
service and the ability to post it online. We thank you for caring people who continue to run errands for
the most vulnerable. We thank you for Jesus Christ who continues to journey with us in suffering, but
also in hope and resurrection. We give thanks also for the prayer you taught your disciples saying…
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen.
